Anyone else here find SS3 the best of the Samurai Showdown/Spirits series? I think the sprites are fantastically wonderful. I all of a sudden got the mad urge for SS, so I will be purchasing this soon.

2 is where to goo. It's got everything you want, plus mad marketability. SS2 is just SNK's golden moment. Where everything was right with the world and no one cared about everything needing to be 3d and butt-mushtastic.

SS3 (and to an extent 3) is a diff'rent game really from 1 and 2. You really cannot compare them.

Anyways, it is truly good to see you post again, ZMJ. Keep on keepin on.

3 has the best graphics out of the 4 2D SS games and 2 has the tightest gameplay. I prefer 3 over any of them though. Except the blood code on the home version is hella hard to do. Anybody know an easyer way to do it? Or maybe something I'm doing wrong. A+B+C+D at the same time on exit in the options menu right?

Not only is SS3 my favorite in the series, it's my favorite Neo game. Everything about that game oozes quality; the gameplay, music and graphics are all amazing. I love SS2 as well, but 3 just blows me away every time I play it.

Man, each game has something awesome about it.

I like them all pretty much equally, but 2 and 4 get the most play cuz they are the only two I own on MVS. The others I play either at the arcades, ports, or emulators.

Either way, every game in the series is GREAT, when 3 came out, my friends and I were playing that shit at the arcades every chance we got, and it was fucking awesome.

part 3 is my less favorite game of the series crying

I love SS to death and part 3 is nice, but nothing more in my eyes..

I really want to see the magic of it, but until so far I can only play it a couple of rounds before returning it to it's case again and stick in 1, 2, or 4..

What's good about, PLEASE enlighten me to it's magic.

Thanks in advance :D

EvilWasabi:
There's still hope for improvement on your part then.

Verbatum:
My faves in order:

1. SS2
2. SS4
3. SS1
4. SS3
EvilWasabi, you are one of them diehard SS3 fans.

Do you have any idea what a newbie on the game could do to start loving and actually playing it ?

It's obviously not one of them games that grow on you as soon as you pop it in for the first time. At least not to me and I saw quite a lot of people mentioning the same thing.

My biggest complaints are:

controls react a bit choppy and slow (although the gameplay itself is not slow at all).

There's nothing much left to be discovered when you played the hell out of SS2.

Matches are finished within just a couple of slashes and don't last long enough to make them really exciting.

Part 3 has the fewest characters that actually *seem* interesting to me.

The game doesn't add much extra's to the rest of the series.

These are based on my opinions and a relatively short amount of hours spend on it. But I just can't get myself to put more hours into it without knowing why. I have many other games that give me much more enjoyment then the very pretty SS3 does (at this moment). But as mentioned before: I love SS and I don't want to pass up on a game that could possibly be a gem for me as well.

Hope you or someone else can give your point of view on this.

Thanks

SSIII offers more than just "action" with combos and fighting. To get the most out of the game, you really have to pay attention to the art in the game. The sprites are the best in the series. Not stretched with washed out palettes like the ones in SSIV, and more detail than those in SSII. The backgrounds are the most dynamic and display the most amount of thought. The transistions you'll see in the background aren't just amakusa's face or some void usually - if you look close at the screen, you'll find all this hidden stuff, like on Basara's stage, there are demons in the background. Moreover, this was the last 2D SamSho with (playable) character specific backgrounds. Hence more backgrounds than SSIV.

I don't know about the control being choppy at all. The control is very flexible as far as I have seen. Perhaps too flexuble for those that didn't like the infinites in SSIII (the same people who shouldn't like the infinites in SSIV...).

I guess the last point I'll touch on is the AI. A lot of people think the game is too hard, even on the default level. Honestly, I think that's great. I love the difficulty of the AI in this game. It's not impossible, but at the same time, you're not going to go in cold and wipe the game clean like it was Rage of the Dragons, or KoF 2000. A lot of people struggle to get to the 5th match, and that's not even the halfway point. In SSIV, by the 5th match, you're almost at the boss! SSIII only gets harder and as a result, really tests your skill, forcing you to take advantage of all the gameplay options (the AB side step is very key in this game). Hence the AI is very good, and will give you something very close to 2 player competition...

So that's why I like the game. If you don't find enjoyment in the same things, I guess SSIV is for you right now.
