Should SNK rmake a new NeoGeo?

So seems to me that the NeoGeo hardware has just begun to become too old. KOF's are not getting any better, SS0 looks like SS4 and neither Metal Slugs look nicer than 3 (technically speaking). So, although I love the old style pixeled 2D sprites, the Neo looks quite outdated compared with what other newer hardware show, such as CPS3 or 2D games in Naomi.
Since SNK has been reborn, do you think that they should invest in making some new arcade hardware? Or just continue making sequels on our beloved old NeoGeo? If you think new hardare is needed, how you think should be like? 2d? 3d? both?
Personally, I would love to see a new NeoGeo by SNK, with the same changeable cartridge style, and both 2D and 3D good looking games, such as Naomi.

i dont think a new snk platform would be uneeded, they should just make more aes syestems.

snk games dont translate well to 3d, remember the hyper 64? the system had one good game , imo, beast buster.

i would like to see a whole new fighting series, and a sequil to last blade buttrock

Normally I'd say 'No.' But after seeing the fucking tricks and visual splendor that is SvC: Chaos tonight, I'd have to say "Hell no."

SNK Playmore is really taking this machine for a fucking wild ride. Metal Slug 5 even looks like a great feast for the eyes.

Neo Geo AES is still going strong despite not making the system anymore. They shouldn't make a new system because it won't last in the 3D field.

IF PLAYMORE won't stop being lazy and fucking up the legacy SNK left behind with their so-so jobs on the KOF games and now SVC Chaos from what Loopz and a few others have posted (still haven't played it yet myself though)... I wouldn't want to think of what short cuts the company (PLAYMORE) might take on a devoted AES II system. Personally if the keep up this hack job shit the Neo Might be around another 3 years or so if that. I'm still hoping it makes it to bragging rights of being a 20 year old console supported for, but it's going to take more than cloned "Vs. Fighting" games that are so-so at best and a few Metal Slug enteries to do anything great with it. So NO I DON'T THINK A NEW NEO:GEO SYSTEM IS A GOOD IDEA AT ALL. At least not by the benefactors running the show right now anyhow.

ROFL....

SNKP could not in any way design any piece of hardware let alone release a new platform.

It's a new day and age, people like Sony and Microsoft design your hardware now, you make games for them.

It's 2D people it doesn't require much, but insanely good 2D requires more than the Neo-Geo.

PS. Nothing compares to SF3 or GGX2 in 2D beauty. Nothing. :D

Heh, I was about to say. Garou can't hold a candle to SF3's graphics. Maybe Jojo's. On a bad day. If you use only normals.

I think I need to find a way to get paid every time someone makes a topic like this. I'll have my own polynesian island soon enough.

it could be next to unregistered island, then we could visit Drifty and Haohmaru of the wind.

yes - they should make a neo neo geo pocket, that

looks like a CD man,
has a 3"x5" lcd screen on the lid,
4 buttons (ABCD), plus start and select,
a click stick thumb pad,
stereo
video output (a la, PSX style)

and plays -
you got it - neo geo CDs -

and has
link up capability
a multi-tap adapter
some ungodly fast CD reading speed.

And the price? Who cares. $600 for a new neo geo back in the day - I'd pay the same for this, and I bet a lot of you would too. The fact it would still be a 16 bit hardware is irrelevent. Like the GBA< which is a sad piece of hardware, a new NGP that plays all the old NGCD hardware, would start out with perhaps one of the greatest pre-existing libraries of games ever. Maybe they could make it a 32 bit system. Port SSF2X to it and some capcom games.

After writing this, I think I need to change my pants. thx.

I'm still wary about bringing any CD-like medium to the pocket world. Our technology of CDs are still too volatile for such a world. Being a portable, it gets shaken around, accidentally dropped, thrown on furniture, etc. While we have gone a good way in terms of CD players that can handle skip aspects of music, music doesn't handle like game data. Music is not randomly accessed, so putting some anti-skip buffer is out of the question. Plus, even today, the technology isn't solid. The stuff plain breaks down, sometimes earlier than later. If it happens with our current CD players, it'll definitely happen with a game system that uses all kinds of Random access tricks of the gaming trade.

People don't want portables like that to be disposable. Generally, we're used to portables that after 10+ years of use can still work without fear of breakdown. Heck, I bet my original Gameboy (that I traded like 5 years ago) probably still works, plays games, etc. My Neo Geo Pocket and 2 Pocket Colors are still going strong, but I can't use them as test beds as they didn't exist when I was in middle school.

But at least with the Neo Geo Idea, it'll probably be more likely to last longer than the new Sony one, they're putting together. If they can't put together a console within the first 2 revisions without a good 40% break down without abuse, I'd really worry about them trying to attempt the unprecedented level of hardware stability in the portable world.

they should make a new system and keep it the same.all it needs is all the mods and a slot for aes and mvs.that is the only way it will be better.maybe a spot for pocket and cd games would be ok i guess.

SNK doesn't need to make a new Neo Geo system. What they should to in the next round of the "console wars" is try a joint venture with either Namco or Sega and make an effort to bring the SNK classics to 3D. I've said it before, imagine Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury, Last Blade, etc...playing and looking like SC/SCII or VF4! It would be so flippin' amazing.

Letting the mainstreamers know what they've been missing for the past baker's dozen damn it!

It'd be nice if they could get the MOTW team to do something on some nice hardware. For the time being the AES is fine. 2 years down the road (2005), there should be a platform switch.

I am quite happy with what they have, sure it might be old and dated and not as powerful as other systems but that does not matter cause the games are cool and even if the system was given a face lift and more power, doesnt mean the games will be any better, and then its yet another systen you will need to get, if you want better games with more power just add more megs :)

Playmore would get absolutely trounced in the hardware market. And a new cartridge system would take a massive dump since the carts are so damned expensive to make AND buy.

If I were SNKP, re-release the exact same hardware (no development cost) at something like $250-300, allowing other people into the little club, but not too many to keep it fanatical. The Neo Geo world is fairly exclusive, so expanding the hardware numbers to bring in more customers for the 500 or so carts they produce would benefit them (and us) greatly
