FOLLOWING TOPIC will be discussed on the mod forum with all moderators and administrators.
I hope to get some positive inputs from all of you in the first place anyway
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suggest to use new rankings for some members so to help out new comers having their ideas right about neo-geo.com and neo geo in general.

We could have special rankings like:
SENIOR MEMBER or EXPERT MEMBER or something like that.

So,all the times we have threads about common questions, the situation would be set just by a reply from a senior or expert member.

I thought some good choices could be:
PEP
LORD WOLFGANG KRAUSER
TAKUMANJI
maybe more.

But those members woulòd be great help to all the forums with thier post, saving times to all moderators.
Please post your comments I really would like this features to be in asap.

Sound good.

But can I be a 'Sarcastic Moron' member?

You know, the guy who's duty it is to sneak in a snide comment that doesn't really have anything to do with the topic at hand, but is almost always necessary in this topsy-turvy NG.com world.

This is kind of like the idea that Microsoft uses in their newsgroups. People who are really helpful and spend alot of time in the group answering questions are given a special status.

Not a bad idea I guess.

Just make sure that the membvers you pick for this aren't assholes. The few you named would be good for the position.

edit-You should sticky this thread.

I certainly do not support such an idea. Reasons:

1) It gives a higher status to certain individuals. Unless I am very mistaken, this status would be granted arbitrarily, and never by a voting process among all members. Such a thing is undemocratic and may well cause conflicts (and "teh drama"). In short, who shall decide who is going to become an "expert member"?

2) There is nothing in the above post to justify the implemention of such a measure. What is the alleged reason for this?

To reply to common, repeated questions in the forums, in order to save time to the mods?

I don't think we need to have an "expert" in order to tell newbies that "yes, Jap and Euro carts work in US systems" for the millionth time, or something like that! Nor have the mods ever dedicated themselves to answer questions of this kind.

I'm all for anything that improves the forums, but I'm not sure I understand the point.

In general, I thought that that was what mods, post counts and registered dates were for.

If this was primarily a tech board then I'd say yes, but with this place Lovecraft is right, it'd just be more of a hassle.

I will make this suggestion, how about just letting members type in their own "subtitle" or custom rank from their profiles? A bunch of other forums I've seen do that and it does make things a bit more fun. :D

eh.
the end user will be the one who determines
whether or not he listens/reads the person in question's
remarks or not.
are we going to make everyone experts on stuff?
should i be a Korean cart expert since i have
about all of them?
hahah.
i suppose we can have as many chiefs as possible.
i think most people
can determine whether or not they are taking
an opinion from a valid source.
but quite obviously member number and post number
cannot be a firm determining factor anymore since
alot of older members may be around but do not neccessarily post
any more and you have newer members that dont really
bring any real knowledge to a subject even though
they may have 4000+ posts in the unrelated forum.

I would like to see some features back like:

Return of the ranking system and flags
Sigs appearing once per page

Things to be avoided:

merge with another emulation forum
IPs allowed to register more than once

and some cleaning at the registered members database would be good.

I like the idea and is actually needed. This also keep "simple," but legitement questions from being flamed. We were all new to the SNK scene at one time and had those questions, and we should answer them to the best of our abilities.

Cleber should return with a special rank as "Trade Master."

And we should invite Kyokugen Star back as a "Senior Swindler."

The real problem behind those commom questions threads is the lack of a "Neo Geo History" section at neo-geo.com How come the largest neo-geo database don´t have this newbie info.

We actually have the glossary for that.

Anyway I don't see how having some members with a different sentence under their avatar help, unless they are giving more powers, such as locking an obvious thread after an answer has been given. I have no problem if they are chosen "by finger", the term "democracy" doesn't apply in that sense here.

In any case, other than more mods, what we really need is to use more the sticky function, with some FAQs written by those "Expert members".

We need more active moderators more than a ranking system.

It's a neat idea though... I still miss the original ranking system, and my old custom rank crying

Pep is the man.
Always trying to help other people.

I suggest Amano's Jacu and myself to be the Neocops.

The "senior members" suggestion sounds good, but most problems with new members that always ask the same questions over and over could indeed be solved by a few sticky threads in News, General and Tech.

A few weeks ago, I put links to all threads that I found about the Neo Geo CD system into a new thread called "All About Neo Geo CD" (in 16bit). IMO, that would be another good solution to the problem, the original threads (specially the redundand ones) could be locked and discussions would be focussed on one (sticky) thread instead split into ten threads with a lot of similar info. Of course, a mod with sufficient mod-powers would be needed to make the threads sticky and close the old ones. Bobak did this with all those Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon threads, perhaps this works for other stuff as well.

Anyway, the problem won't go away by flaming new members that happen to ask a question that has been asked before. Yes, there are days where I too find it annoying, but where's the problem in posting a lil' link for the new guy that points him to the info he wants? We all have started somewhere, and it's not that all Neo Lore (specially the more technical stuff) falls from trees.

sounds like ftl wants to boost his status even higher

what if this so called neo expert answers something incorrectly, and a non titled member calls it. who is the n00b gonna believe?

what if a neo expert turned to the ngf side, and all the noobies started giving ngf their business?

i think its unnecessary, and a waste of time. there are other matters that need attending to.

and as far as ranks go, i want the rank system back. with the few customs here and there. completely custom is lame...why not just put it in your sig?

i think the member rating system is better being more averaged and democratic. if you want to choose a certain 5 or 10 ppl why dont you just make em mods or something...

why not just make a big fat link for faqs at the top of every forum. they'd have to be really stupid to not try there FIRST. and if they dont, ban them immediately smirk

Well, at the very least, you should give Briggs the rank of "MVS Guru", Rev the Rank of "Newbie", Neobuyer as "Art of Flaming"(get it?) and Kernow has to be "Mantastic".

Otherwise, this is silly.
