Other than being a fake, is there any difference in gameplay between a bootleg and an original? Does it play the same? or is it messed up?

Thanks,

A bootleg may have defects in the graphics, sound and maybe gameplay. But, there's no way you can spot a bootleg just by looking at the cart, you have to open it up, and look for EPROMS(clear chips). You can ask other people that have a lot more knowledge bout this situation than I do.

Technically bootlegs should play the same as a real cart if they were manufactured right, but of course, most of them weren't. Usually glitches and sound errors ocurr due to bad rom dumps. eproms are not a definite way to tell if they are a boot, because many official carts have a few in them. Look for Flash MX chips and chips made in singapore (Singapore chips are also usually very scratched up for some reason). The other dead give away is sloppy hand soldering.

I have found with bootleg carts in multislot boards ie 4 or 6 slot the games dont cycle or they cut out sound on some of the games, in a one slot they are usually ok..

Sometimes bootleg carts use beta code of the game instead of the final version, so there are some differences in the game itself. For example in bootleg Garou you always fight the last enemy (while in the final version you only fight him if you have good ranks) and there are no endings.

my arcade has KOF02; which is missing the BGM for Kusanagi, and the orochi team. another giveaway is that it wasnt in an original MVS cart case.label was fake also.

They are also very much harder to sell, you can't sell them through this forum and you are not supposed to on ebay. You risk doing your repuation a lot of damage too by being seen to deal in them, people will find it hard to trust you.
