Well here it is, the story about how I finally became a Neo-Geo owner. I never thaught I'd be able to say that...I own a Neo-Geo.

As a kid I allways thaught that you needed tons of money to own an arcade game, but with how bad arcades have been getting I was shocked to find out how easy it was to get.

It all started on one of my DDR forums, some kid was saying there was an old Flee Market that had a new DDR Machine and you should check it out. He also said they had a couple of other games including a Neo-Geo so I had to check it out.

I went there and it was a dump. The games there haven't been used since the mid 90s and it showed. Nobody was playing any other games but the DDR.

I saw they had a ton of old games in the back with prices on them, and I asked the guy are the machines back there really for sale? He said they were, all you needed to do was give him the money and pick them up yourself. Kinda like one stop shopping.

I saw this sorry looking Neo Converson with a small 19 inch screen. It had Baseball Stars Pro and Sengoku in it. I asked the guy if he'd consider selling the neo geo board. He told me, well since nobody plays it I'll sell it to you for 100 bucks! I allmost blurted out YOU GOT A DEAL! He then said he had other games and I should check it out tommorow.

I went there the next day to make the deal. I asked if he had any extra empty cabs, because my friend wanted to buy one. He said if he wants the neo I'll sell it to him for 50. So you can give me 150 for the whole thing and you got a deal! I'm not stupid so I shook his hand and a deal was made.

Next day I went to pick the cab up, he took off the locks and emptyed the change out.. 75 cents.. sad.

So after a bitch of a time we got it into my friends van and got it in my garrage. After inspecting it, I found out that this cab used to be a Double Dragon. You could see the burn in on the moniter, and it even had the old Taito emblem on the back. Too bad they paited over the side art.

So now I have a 2 slot neo-geo board with 2 games for 100 dollars. And my friend is planning on restoring the cab back into a Double Dragon this summer.

Not a bad deal right? This just goes to show you. You don't need to spend tons of money to get into Neo-Geo. If you know where to look you will find a great deal. If I can find one, you can too. Just get out there and look around.

So after all of this, my friend is going to re-convert the cab back into DoubleDragon, and I am going to buy some used MVS games and a SuperNova this Christmas.

NOW! On with the pictures!

This is a picture of the guts of the machine, you can see the two slot on the right.

On the left is me, and you can see Baseball Stars Pro running on the screen, the guy told me the sound in Baseball Stars didn't work, but when I plugged in my headphones into the jacks, it had full sound.

Here is a picture of the Sengoku cart, on the left you can see the old Taito emblem. I couldn't get a clear shot inside the cab, because the old header to Double Dragon is in there.

There is the board. As you can see it's a mess, I'm going to give it a good cleaning and I want to spray it with some Krylon and make it look nice.

Here's a picture of the slots, you can see the rust on it, that's getting cleaned.

So there you have it! And just remember what Terry says....

2 slot and two games?? I'd say you got over...
You got the right board too,a 2 slot is prolly one of the most durable PCB's imo.

I've found looking for arcade cabs to be odd. The people that have them either think they are gold, or think they are garbage. It seems there is no steady going rate only the extremes.

Well the main reason why the guy sold it so low is because he has this thing called GameChoice2K... AKA a Mame Machine.

He said, he really had no need for 2 MVS's because he has all the games on the GameChoice.

But it gets MUCH better. In the back where he has all the parts, he's got a nice stack of games. Stuff like FF1, Ghost Pilots and Samuari Showdown III.

He said, he'll test them all out and he'll sell them to me in ranges of 10-25 dollars A GAME! So once he lets me know what he's selling I'll go down there like a fly on crap and buy everything up.
