Hi guys,

I wish I had found your cool forum sooner..I was wondering if I overpaid getting a new/unopened japanese AES system for $785 usd shipped on ebay. It comes with 1 controller and no game. I havent recieved it yet but I'm pretty excited. I really miss my old Neo Geo and have regretted selling it 7 years ago.. I hope I didn't overpay too badly...then again I bought the old neo gold sys for $550 + 5 or 6 aes games at $200 apop back in the day...

I'd like to get it modded in the near future. Can anyone recommend someone to do so?

Thx

If you wanted a NEW unopened system you paid the going rate for one as I've seen them sell for as high as 1000.00

I bought my AES from an owner who'd had it locked in a closet for 7 years for $175...he must've only played it 10 or so times...I sold that thing about 6 months ago for $200 and got rid of my home games...

If you got a brand new unopened Neo Geo for under $1200, then congrats man. Thats still WAAAY too much for me, but you definately beat Shawn's price at the Neostore if it's legit.

Thanks guys.

I hope it is legit. After reading about some of the scams I'm keeping my fingers crossed until it arrives. wish me luck. $200 for a minty AES sys?? *doh* Now I really wish I had found this sooner wink Oh well, I love the Neo I bought this to play and bring back some memories :) that $500 will dissipate in a hurry once I can afford to get a phantom to play some of the mvs carts I picked up a few months ago. Till then I prolly will try for an aes SS1 or nam75.

So far I've got MS1, blazing star and LB2 (all mvs)...I'd like to get more MS, viewpoint, sengoku1, pulstar, bustamove, SS1, kingofmonsters1 and Nam someday...Are there any must-have games you guys recommend? thx

Well, you always could sell it off before you open it and get a nice minty one here for < $200... might want to let the collector wolves get at it, I am sure you can easily get your money back on it unopened... once you open it is another story completly wink

I agree, good deal unless you want to play it. and playing it fully means to get it modified and such which adverisly will cause the value to go down to a collector. Although I do not think the going rate is $1200. just becuase that is what they are selling here for. I picked up a mint NGH system w/o box, 4 games, 2 sticks and a memory card for $105 from yahoo japan. add shipping and commission fees and it still went under $250 wink

hmmm...I picked it up thinking it would be my best bet in getting a neo that worked great since its supposed to be unused. The majority of the ones I've seen on Ebay were in "B" or "C" condition...whatever that means. Do you think those play just as well? Is the "C" grade just cosmetic (like scuffs and scratches) not electronic? I want my Neo to last and play without any glitches, as I have no intention of selling it like I did with my first one. Grrr I sold the Neo Gold (2)w/Mas turbo/slow sticks + some Aes games for $350 7 years ago before they had ebay *sigh* the only saving grace for me was the games were SS1, King of monsters, Nam, sengoku...I didn't own a Metal Slug *whew*

you got a good deal, however Neo Geo is different from other systems. In my opinion they are very well built.I have owned only one unit and it still works like it did when I bought it new unlike my Tg-16 and DreamCasts.I bought like 4 Turbografx systems cuz they all broke and 2 Dreamcasts.Everyone i know who owned a DC had it break sooner or later.Neo geo systems are very sturdy.

What im trying to say is that its great that you bought it new but you could still get the same enjoyment from a used one.You could probably sell that new one for $1100.

Like the other people here have said, thats cheap for an un-opened NeoGeo unless you live in japan. In that case i've seen them fresh and un-opened for as little as 35,000 yen (about 300-320 bucks). But once you factor in the air fare, and the food, and the lodgeing, and the sub way, and all the crazy japanese you will have to buy when you get there, you will have spent over $2,300 , so, you come out on top in the end.

P.S.
I had my dreamcast MELT on me, I bought a hello kitty cover for it and it literaly started to MELT!! I was pissed, that hello kitty case rocked.

P.P.S
Any one here ever wonder why a naomi system, which is basicly a dreamcast, cost 400bucks (600ish for a naomi2)? and a dreamcast "used to" cost about 149 new? (39.99 these days..) It's because the Naomi system is ment for arcades, so its "arcade tuff". The DC is toy, not a peace of Machinery, in short, the newer systems are flimsy and will break easly. Yes you can cook stuff with an easy bake oven, but it doesnt compare to a nice gas powered charcole grill. The NeoGeo home system is is every bit as well made as its arcade counterpart, if not better!!, its not... a "toy" so to speak. The NeoGeo, Naomi, and System 246 are peaces of relyable machinery while all these new home systems are cheap junk in comparason.

Not bad, considering the fact that the Neostore is selling them for $1,200! I bought my Neo Geo AES (didn't come with a box, but I don't give a flying fuck) from Ebay for $150 with 3 games, Samurai Shodown US, Fatal Fury Special JPN, and World Heroes US(didn't come with a box).

That's definitely a pretty good deal on a brand new/unopened Neo. Many people will argue this point, but to me it's worth it to have a brand new machine. Whenever you buy something used, no matter how sturdy, you always run the risk of something breaking a year or two down the road. And since the NGH's on ebay will probably eventually dry up, it may be very difficult to secure another system when your used one craps out.

So on one hand, yes, it's very disturbing that you reduce the value of your purchase by 2/3 of it's original price simply by plugging it in. On the other hand, you could probably play on that machine for another ten years before you have to start worrying about things falling apart on you. That's worth alot to me!

It sounds like you went in as a gamer and accidentally bought something meant for a collector. I would sell it new on Ebay, then buy an MVS system with the money. For what you'll get for the system on Ebay, you could be sitting at your own Cab, and paying MVS prices for all your favorite games.

Well...I recieved the Neo Geo today. It arrived sooner than I thought it would. Purchased it on Friday, so it took 5 days or so.

The box is pristine. I took some pics but dont know how to post them. My initial impressions were it was the box was alot smaller than the gold system I remembered having...I guess its a *duh* since it is minus a controller and game. Nice considering it makes it a little easier to conceal from the GF wink It wasnt sealed so I opened it to make sure there was a neo in there and not a loaf of bread or something. I suspect the unit isn't exactly never-been-played/unopened as the seller claimed it to be. I think is the case because there are some areas where it appears the paint has flecked off the joystick neck, probably an indication of executing some furious supermoves wink Other than that it looks brand new, but how could one ever be sure?

Anyways the joystick in question is the new style, and I was impressed by the feel and the smaller size. Do you guys prefer the new style vs the original black controllers?

Regardless whether it is or isn't really new/unopened, I'm so glad I have one again. Can't wait for my bank account to recover so I can buy some aes/mvs games and a phantom. I may or may not buy a used neo to mod/play instead of this one. Still debating that one. Hadn't really cared about it when I ordered this one but now some of ya guys have me paranoid wink

Anyways thx guys, gonna go admire my precioussss wink

If it's been used, then you just got scammed out of 400 bucks. For it to qualify as new, it needs to be *never* used, not mint.

I'm assuming it's this one:
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3538530095&category=4315" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3538530095&category=4315</a>

I'd complain to the seller, because it sounds like he sent you a used system.

the main reason the neo has poor visuals is cause it uses B parts in there electronics to keep the price down

I would never pay that much for one brand new (especially if it came with that atrocious joystick). I bought my Neo console (the original gold system) brand new almost a decade ago for $400.

I don't think the price has gone up since then and I would doubt that there are any mint (unopened) models left. It's just not something that you buy to put in the middle of your living room and leave unopened.

A lesson I have learned (on eBay in particular) is to do research before you spend money on something significant. When you have a lot of money, it's tempting to throw it at the first deal you see and that happens all too often.
