Anyone care to answer a few of my questions?

Hi, I'm new here and I need a little deciding what system I should buy.

1. How much would a working two-slot cabinet in decent condition generally cost (with monitor, PCB board, etc.)?

2. If I was to try to build my own supergun, what all would I need, how much electronic expertise would I need, and how much do you think it would cost in all?

3. With an NGH system, is there an adaptor that allows you to play MVS games on an NGH? I remember hearing something about one a long time ago, but I remember something about it not working with newer games. Would anyone care to explain?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It depends - where the cabinent is, is it an original, a conversion cab, monitor burnin, does it come with games, etc.

With an neo geo board too, probably abound 200-250$.

I'm looking for an original cabinet without games and little to no monitor burn-in. Does that help any?

Edit: Like the size of the one on the left in this picture from Shawn's collection:

So that's without the Neo Geo board? What about the skills I would need and the parts?

Yes, arcades phantom 1 converter.
So, what are its compatibility problems, if any?

There are no compatibility problems - though some people have trouble with some glitches.

You're probably better going the Supergun or cab route really.

Oh, so even the brand new games will work with it? Excellent. Any particular reason why you think I should go with a supergun or MVS system?

You want no monitor burn-in wink You can get a nice cab in great shape around 300-400 bucks. I payed 300 for my Japanese Neo 25" buttrock

I also scored a 25" converted cab, with KOF '97 and Waku Waku 7 for $250 bucks. Cab was beat up a little, with a little monitor burn in, but it gives you an idea how low they can go if you go through an arcade vendor.

Talk to Supergoose here at ng.com; he should be able to help you out.

Yes, there are some problems. I sold mine because certain games with zooming (SSIV and WW7 for instance), garbled up when the action zoomed out. Also, they're reports that some games just don't work. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a compiled list of problems reported by users. I can inform you that all my KOF games (including 2k2) worked tip top, along with Strikers 1945.

So then I guess I should look into arcade vendors locally? What if they don't have any Neo Geo cabinets or I can't find anything near me? I don't really want to go with eBay, because I don't really have time for a road trip.

That's what I did first. Just go to some local arcades and ask for vendor numbers, or if they have their own warehouse, ask if they have any just collecting dust. The arcade I worked for had a ton of old mvs machines doing nothing.

What State are you located in?

Georgia. I'll check into what I can find locally when I get a chance. Thanks for your help.

No problem. Also, if you ever see a cab you're interested in, check the back; usually you'll find the number for the vendor who distributed it.

Good luck.

There ARE compatability problems with many games! If you get a Phantom-1, be prepared to have some MVS games not work at all on your home system.

Which games have you had compatibility problems with? I've not had any, and granted I've not tried every game but I think I've tried one from every year. All the issues I've heard of have been graphical glitches, which while annoying do not render anything unplayable.

I have never encountered a game it cannot play, but I have graphical glitches in some games...

Samurai Shodown 4 has graphic glitches when the screen zooms.

Art of Fighting 3 has graphical glitches when the screen zooms or when certain characters use special moves.

Waku Waku 7 has the same problem.

Just a few I have personaly, and still do, experience.
