So where should I start…….
I am sitting down playing metal slug 4 on my neo geo.
5 min into the game my gf looks at me a said are you playing Atari…………………
Atari%@##$%!!!! my heart dropped and shattered.
I told her the words she just spoke was sacrilege
So I popped in activision classics into my psx and loaded pitfall and said that is Atari.
I don’t think my heart can truly be healed frown

I hear where your coming from and I would of been in shock myself..
But
...If that happened to me..I would just explain it too her that I'm playing a Neo Geo game..The greatest system in the world..

Then I'd try and get her into the Neo explaining everything about it..showing her the "Puzzle Games"...

I really don't expect girls to know anything about the Neo Geo..
90% of the women/girls I ever hear talking about games call them Atari/Nintendo/Playstation...and sometimes Xbox depending on their age..

My mom still says to me.."What are you doing playing Atari/Nintendo"...... blow_top

My wife never heard of the Neo Geo but when I started showing her the Puzzle games she was hooked and sure knows what it is now..

Plus all the money I've spent on the Home system and She can't miss the big NEO GEO marquee on my machine in our living Room..

Yeah...I mean, I know my GF doesn't mind my arcade collection, and I also know that I'm lucky to have that.

So what if most women aren't into games? I like that I can have something that's for me and the guys. I don't feel like she has to be a part of every little aspect of my life.

Maybe neo isn't as important to me as it is to you, but I just don't feel like it should have any bearing on my relationship.

Also, this just proves that you've never tried to explain what an important hobbie this is to you, or what these games really mean to you. Sometimes it's important that you explain the feeling of nastalgia or whatever that you get from these games. Let's face it, if everyone were into it, it wouldn't be as much fun.

Heh, after being single for six months, I'm just happy to finally be with someone I like!

why the hell would you be playing videogames when your girl is around anyways? a proper gentleman would devote all of his attention to her.

well i got all this from assorted books, and movies on chivalry i've read over the years; and it's worked before(one time mind you), though true most girls think it's just weird.

Yeah, I honestly think that all this bullshit about chivalry is at the heart of the 'nice guy' syndrome. I mean, it's one thing to be polite and attentive, but if you give too much too soon, she doesn't feel like she's special, she feels like you're desprate.

It's also good to have some things just to yourself. She needs her space and so do you. If you give all your attention to her all the time, and she's the sort of needy girl that really wants that, then she'll burn you out and before long you'll wish she'd just leave you the fuck alone so you could play your 'Atari' in peace.

From what I've learned women don't want to be treated like women, they want to be treated like people. Most 'nice' guys screw up by constantly reminding them that they're special, and not allowing them to be themselves.

Im sad to say im on the verge of splitting with my girlfriend as she cannot understand my fascination with ebay, neo or the insert designing I put my heart and soul into. I dont get it,I spend time with her, we pay the bills and I think our relationship is ok.

She cant stand games as her ex used to play his ps all the time, only she says I would be happier curled up at night next to 'those oversized video boxes'.

Im really in despair over this situation, but everybody has to have a hobby, especially guys (boys and their toys, as they say).

This may seem like a joke, but any serious advice, especially from people who have been down this road, would be appreciated.

Listen man, if you spend more time with your games than with your woman then there's problems. There's no problems playing games every now and then, but if it takes over your relationship then you need to re-evaluate your life.

When you play games, what is she doing? When I play games, I usually make it a point to do it while she's either sleeping or doing something else. I don't feel right playing games while she's in the other room watching tv. It kinda seperates you two from why you got together in the first place.

Of course, if she just doesn't like you playing ANY video games at all, then that's a control issue and you need to talk to her about it. Let her know that it's just a hobby, nothing more. It's all about moderation man.

I agree, I forgot to mention that I only play when shes out, its the presence of the items that she cant stand.

Games playing would never come between us, but im not getting rid of my neo stuff as im proud of my complete series of slug games (1 on reserve at the mo) and my collection of unreleased conversions were pure labours of love, both the technical and art side.

Im sure that anyone with a creative in their love for neo would agree.
