Hey guys,

I have all the slug games (Except 4) on AES/Converted AES (1), but as the SNK loving completist I am I've been wondering about the import PSX ver of Metal Slug 1.

I recently bought one of my nephews Slug X for the PSX and I was WAY impressed by how well they squeezed it onto the ram-challenged PSone!. I mean, it was pretty much all there. I decided to pick myself up a copy for when I buy that little PSone LCD screen (heh, in case I go on a long car trip...).

But what my question really boils down to: How good (Or bad) is Slug 1 for the import PSX? The Saturn ver is pretty damn good, but really, overall- how is the PSX ver?

I might want to pick it up if it's at least playable. Even if it's just to play with my nephews (They only have a PS2).

I'm just glad there are still some little kids that prefer 2D arcade stuff to all the 3D on the PS2. :)

So school me.

I heard it was like a punk bitch compared to the Saturn version. I'vew never played it but that's what I heard. Besides most teenie-bobbers today are only attracted to MS for it's violence and the fact every other magazine wants to compare it to something(IMO).

X = fun, nice job of converting it considering the hardware they had to make due with.

1 = avoid it at all costs. don't buy it unless you can get an amazing deal.

SNK did a splendid job on X, avoid 1 at all costs. Don't buy it even you can get an amazing deal. Loading time is terrible plus many more.....

After you beat MS1 on the PSX, there are some minigames in a section titled "another story". Since it is exlcusive to the PSX version, I'd say it is worth it to pick up the version for the extra stuff -- especially if you are a completist.

PM me if you want a bootleg copy of MS1 just to try it out. I'm not selling it, or offering this service to anyone else. It's a sepcial offer for neobuyer only.

I own them both and i love them both too. I think MS1 has a very bad rep for PSX or maybe i just love it because it was the game that introduced me to MS and the whole Neo scene.

MSX is great to own if only for the bonus games, i can play them for hours alone.

For a PSX port, X is really good, despite a few flaws sound-wise. The samples sound stuffed, not as bad as in MS1 PSX, but overall, the sound quality on Neo is much better.

The game plays rougher than the original, but overall it's a decent port with additional missions and other stuff to unlock.

Oh, and I like the cover art and the folded "manual".

Metal Slug X for PSX is a good conversion, and has served me extremely well. Its not perfectly converted, but its fun to play in the can on my PSOne with the screen.

Its got an art gallery, Another Mission missions, and the Combat School is challenging, and extends the playability of the game. Almost no slowdown, and no loading mid-level.

Slug 1? Blargh. "DATA LOADING" in the the middle of the levels, and at bosses totally ruins the game.

ms on ps equals crap and here are few reasons why
1. nearly two load sequences for every level, this means a few moments (during play) when it just stops. really annoying!
2. no mission start voice at the begining of each stage! (a major loss imho.)
3. when you hit an enemy with the flame shot the voice is way off.
in closing i would like to say that i have been running ms in my mvs for a long while and when i finally had the oppourtunity to play it on the ps i could with out a doubt tell the differences.
if anything its a rip of the neo cd version and even that puts the ps version to shame.
