Terretorial Differences in the Home System

I have wondered about this question from time to time lately. Other than internal differences, what is the difference between the different versions of the home system? Is there any way to identify the territory by simply looking at the casing?

I have a JPN system and all of the paint on the console is English, and so is the label on the back. From what I understand there is only one sequence of serial numbers as well.

Unfortunately, there is now way to tell by looking at the case only. All systems use the same serial number system.
