It seems every title seems to get rarer by the day. I can remember the days when there were 300-400 active MVS auctions on ebay all the time. Now there seems to be 70-100 on a daily basis. I have listed some of what I feel are definately the rarer MVS titles. Who has these games and how rare do you feel each game is - 1 being Extremely Common, and 10 being Etremely Extremely Rare! Also what do feel the proper pricing is on these games (loose cart). Here is my recent experience with these titles:

Bang Bead / Rarity 9 / Price $375-$550
Fight Fever / Rarity 8.5 / Price $100-$200
Flipshot / Rarity 9/ Price $150-$200
Jockey Gran Prix / Rarity 10 / Price $500-$1000
Pleasure Goal / Rarity 8.5 / Price $150-$250
Puzzle De Pon R / Rarity 7.5 / Price $75-$150
Super Dodge Ball / Rarity 8.0 / Price $200-$250
V-Liner / Rarity 8.5 / Price $200-$250

My pricing/rarity is based upon many purchases and pricing of these games, and how hard they were to find for other collectors. Please provide your input.

Well, I deffinetly agree that eBay is drying up. Actually, these days I see about 1.5 pages of auctions where as there use to be nearly 5 at any given time. The last time I searched I found only 70 items related to MVS. However, I don't know if this is indicitive of the MVS market drying up, or MVS sales on ebay.

I think pages like this and s-c.com have made a much better area for MVS sales. Still, a glance at the selling forums here and you barely see any MVS moving these days... It was something I have been noticing, and is a little concerning to any MVS gamer such as myself.

As for the rare list. Well, those are the marquee rare games... you missed a couple. I would put Pop n Bounce, Quiz Chibi, Quiz Detective 1 (hard to find on MVS for some reason), Sengoku 2, and maybe a few others.

I own Super Dodge Ball, wasn't hard to find at all. Actually when I was looking there were always 2 or so original copies to be found and a slew of bootlegs. Pop n Bounce is a lot rarier in my opinion then SDB... but it is not as desirable.

Sengoku 2 can be a bitch to find, but these days there are a lot of games hitting that mark. Ghost Pilots, Eightman, Magician Lord, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Prehistoric Isle 2, etc are all reaching a point of obscurity... same with games like Puzzle Bobble 2 and Shock Troopers... games that were pretty easy to come by three years ago or so.

The MVS market is changing, I think if the current state continues we may see a big jackup in prices of complete and original games... something I am not looking forward to, as it discourages the more casual market of the MVS.

There is a big difference between kit rarity and loose cart rarity for one thing. I'm guessing your talking about loose carts.

The other thing to consider is geographical location. Some titles are rare in one region but less so in another, Bang Bead for example is super rare in the US but 'only' very rare in Europe. I'm guessing these are US rarities you are talking about.

Personally, I'm only interested in kits from a collection point of view though so I don't really know if your numbers are right on the loose carts.

Right there.

Complete kits are rare, loose carts I can put up 10 complete collections in 5 days.

Note that a lot of kits are getting IMPOSSIBLE to find by time passing by.

Speaking of which, I sent you a PM with some requests, but never got a response... Can you get those games?

This is the range at which I found a loose cart enter and end, and a complete kit might enter at the high side of the prices reach.

However in the case of Jockey Gran Prix, I have had several people offer me up to $1000 if I can find one for them, and I have yet to do so.

There is no doubt it's harder to find kits than loose carts, but these days if your going to compile a complete collection or at least find the rare carts, it can take up to a year to find everything and you have to order from every crevase of the world wide web to do so. MVS is definately on the rise, NGH is very common these days compared to MVS, and it use to be the other way around. There is always 400-600 NGH auctions on ebay at a time (sometimes more). The demand is there for both markets, but we are definately going to see the MVS market continue to dry up. I believe a lot me people are buying MVS these days and collecting them, hence one more copy never to resurface.

I predict the next year will bring a lot of pricing changes to the MVS and NGH markets respectively.

If thats prices for loose carts some of them are too high.

I don't know the US market of course but some of those prices are high even for complete kits.

Its interesting that you list V Liner there too actually. Whats the rationale?

Of course I will get them.
But when time permits since I'm not a professional seller.
When I can get some kits or carts I will tell all interested.

Well if and when, let me know. I am always looking so I contact as many sources as possible... typical consumer... let me know what you can find however. As for JGP, V-Liner and Poker Kingdom all fall in a special category for me. They are all SUN games that really kind of deviated from the Neo Geo library... however, they are still desirable to some of the collector types here. JGP can be got for about $500 these days, which I think is way to high for the game. It is a cool sim, but, for only being able to be(a)t on horses, you would think they would add place and show, pretty up the before and after race shots, and have a few more race tracks to choose from. As is, it looks like a month or so of work to make a pasable game... Not worth $500 in my eyes,

Nobody's mentioned Bomberman?
Is it no longer difficult to get a non-booty version of this great game?

There's a MVS "Neo Mr. Do!" auction tagged "RARE" on eBay (loose cart)... The starting price was 1 €, now it's 51 €. I'll post the final price here when the auction's over... (I'm curious, Neo-Geo.com pricelist says $ 100-150, let's see wink )

Unless you know the seller buying a Mr Do MVS is a risky thing, there are more boots than not.

I thought people were into MVS to avoid the main downfalls of the AES-market....namely high prices, rare titles and fake carts! smirk

Looks as the MVS market is finally catching up-especially when considering that $500+ price tag for JGP. oh_no

IMO It all depends on the time of year, and also what current titles are about to be launched. With the imminent release of such masterpieces as MS5, SVC, SS5, Pochi & Nya, etc. I think the MVS is enjoying a bit of a rennaisance, a new interest, especially with all the latest interest in the gaming press, and all sorts of rumours and reports of great happenings at playmore.

I notice people seem to be snapping up what a few years ago would have been old crap ie: world heroes 2, savage reign, even riding hero. Two years ago no-one wanted that old rubbish, I practically gave away eightman, and the like for less than £10. More and more people are getting into MVS, because of the ridiculous price tag of the NGH games, also dont forget that the Dreamcast has played a big part in this. That's right, with all the King of Fighters releases of late not to mention Garou, a lot of hardcore dreamcast collectors have turned their attention to the MVS versions of the same games, not just for the superior quality, but because they're now more aware of these legendary SNK fighters, and want the real thing. loco

Don't forget Neo Drift Out... that's quite rare as well isn't it? Hopefully I might be able to get hold of a NDO kit soon, I really want that game in my collection :)

Is that really the going price for Super Dodgeball now??? That seems pretty high. It was only a year ago that loose carts were around $150.

Those were bootlegs... SDB original has sat at $200-250 for a while now.
However the price dipped thanks to all the boots a summer or two ago,

Wow.. I wasn't aware. I'm glad I got my MVS cart already then. I got it in a trade, so I didn't actually pay for it. I've checked and mine's original, with an original english label.

EDIT: Wow! Post #2000! I didn't realize I had spammed it up that much!

I don't know about kits, but Kizuna and NM are quite easy to find on MVS. They are, of course, rare on homecart though.

Last Blade 2 is apparently one of the rarest kits to find from what I've heard... although I don't collect kits.

Twinkle Star Sprites should be listed there as well, as it's pretty tough to get a hold of.

Here are some others that you don't see often:

Andro Dunos
Gowcaizer
Gururin
Nightmare in the Dark
Panic Bomber
Top Hunter
Viewpoint
Zedblade

Viewpoint in kit form is probably the gem of the bunch.

As you can see from the posts, everyone has brought up several more rare or uncommon carts that I didn't even list. This is just more proof that the MVS carts are becomming more & more difficult to find. This only proves my initial point of the MVS market becoming rarer and rarer. More collectors definately tighten and drive up the market. More complete list of Hard to find titles:

Alpha Mission 2
Bang Bead
Bust a Move Again
Diggerman
Fight Fever
Flipshot
Jockey Gran Prix
Legend of Success Joe
Mahjong Baka
Mahjong Kyo
Mahjong Mina
Master of Syougi
Neo Bomberman
Neo Driftout
Neo Mr. Do!
Nightmare in the Dark
Overtop
Pleasure Goal
Pop N Bounce
Prehitoric Isle 2
Puzzle De Pon R
Quiz Chibi deluxe
Quiz Detective
Quiz Detective 2
Riding Hero
Sengoku 2
Strikers 1945 Pls
Super Dodge Ball
Twinkle Star Sprites
Viewpoint
V-Liner
Zed Blade

eek!

The list just keeps growing....
