I figured if I ever bought a Neo Geo CD it would be for Samurai Shodown RPG. Now is Samurai Shodown RPG any good? How does it compare to any other RPG's?

This games is exelent!
There are many characters so that you also have many ends!
The fightings are very simple and you can chose either to do the right moves to do the special move or simply clic on the "magic" as you wish ;) . It's an option to chose or not.
According to the quest I can't say many things.... I finished it with Haomaru but the game was totaly in japanese and I don't speak the language yet ;) . The quest is not so long but enough to be happy to play and I suppose to have missed many hidden things.
According to the difficulty I would say it's verry easy... nearly all the bosses can be beaten with 2 or 3 special moves (the best moves must be used in that case) but it's normal since SNK characters are GODS!!!!! <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Otherwise an other interesting aspect is the fact that when you finish a quest with a character you unlock any hidden goodies ;) .
You can go through a village with any SNK characters such as KYO KUZANAGI or Ryo SAKAZAKI etc... Very funny ;) .

To finish I would say the graphism are really beautifull!!!!!!!
Amazing!!
I love this games!
ENJOY!! :)

Is Samurai Shodown RPG available in English version? Or is this game Japanese only?

I bought Samurai Spirits RPG when it first came out for the (import) Sega Saturn. The game was released on the Playstation, Saturn and Neo CD. The game was never released in the States so you will have to follow a walkthrough to understand the game. The game is just OK, nothing great. Graphics are great and it's awesome playing an RPG as some of the best SNK characters around. Sadly, if the game didn't involve SNK characters I would have never picked it up (and I wouldn't have missed much). Battles are pretty cool, but the loading times are HORRENDOUS!!! We're talking like 30 seconds worth of loading times whenever one of the (frequent) random battles takes place. I don't care how cool a game is, with loading times like that it becomes too much of a chore to play the game. There is a slight difference between the Saturn and Playstation ports (I forget what they are exactly). One of them gets transparent text windows and a mini games or something, and the other gets a small mini quest for each character (I think the Saturn port gets the mini games and transparent windows). There's also a pretty cool character that was introduced in Samurai RPG that hasn't been in any other game in the series. This is just from memory, however. There are a bunch of reviews and walkthroughs on the net, so judge for yourself.

Check out the three different covers released for the Neo CD, Playstation and Saturn ports here:

Couple screenshots and some pre-release info here:

Bunch of screenshots for one of the mini quests (look at the htm files at the bottom of the page):

Good luck.

Personally, it's my only favorite RPG besides Azel: the Panzer Dragoon Saga. TWO STORIES, great characters, and wonderful music and gameplay. One story follows the events of Samurai Spirits, and the other of Shin Samurai Spirits! A very cool game indeed!

Check this out for a cheap PS copy. You could try this before you fork over the cash for a CD system and the real deal:

I got this game a while back on my NeoCD. Never got a chance to finish it though, since I don't know Japanese. My understanding was that each version (Saturn, PSX, and NeoCD) would be slightly different. I read in a magazine, and they described it like this: There are 3 stories, A, B, and C. The NeoCD version has stories A and B. The Saturn version has stories A and C. And the PSX version has stories B and C.

I thought the NeoCD one was great. The graphics are real nice. The PSX one would have the worst graphics, because it has worst 2D capabilities. Then Saturn, and naturally the NeoCD was the best. And supposedly once you beat both stories on the NeoCD, you could play as the last boss. Amakuza, or someone.

If any of the stuff I've said is wrong, feel free to correct me. It's been a while since I've seen ANYTHING about the game. I was really surprised when I found it for 30 bucks at Chips & Bits online years ago.

Initially that was the plan, but, to avoid the nth delay, they use the same two scenarios for all the versions... So NEO CD, PSX and SS share the same stories... Too bad

Jag har spelet till både Playstation och Saturn, och då du ändå bor i stockhomstrakten skulle jag kunna tänka mig att låna ut någon av dem om du är intresserad :D
