Just curious, I have recieved my system but
I have no games for it yet (they are still in the mail) so still I have no idea how bad the video out is on an unmodded neo. So does anyone here NOT have thiers modded and just use the av cords that came with it? How bad will the video be comaired to the MVS cab I used to own? Thanks!

My system is unmodded. I use the connections that came with the system. I'm sure it could be better. But I don't have any point of reference to see what a modded Neo looks like when running the same games. But I might give in and get the system modded because I want to see if there is a big difference.

I got mine modded, but have yet to pick up an s-video cable for it...and i've had it for a year or so now. so the output isnt THAT bad :)

the rainbows he's talking about occur in some graphic designs...in KOF2000 on the characters Win Quote screen, the text is a bit rainbowed, for example. It's a slight 'multicolored' effect that only bothers you when you're really anal or really bored. but S-video completely eliminates it. i used to be a big, "whats the big deal with s-video?" kinda guy, but there definitely is a significant difference.

I'm about to get my console modded with Arcade's new mods, but I've had my console for about 20 months now and as long as I use the "Low" setting for velocity modulation on my TV (Wega), the picture isn't bad at all, but yes S-Video is a considerable improvement.

Sigh... Am I the only one who uses an unmodded system with the X-RGB 2 plus and RGB cable? I can't imagine even a cab looking substantially better. It looks great.

Anyone know what the difference is in the previous s-video mods and the new Ultra mod that Arcade now has?

The technical term for the "rainbow effect" is "moire pattern", and it's a blight upon certain poorly encoded DVDs as well. My early US Neo had THE WORST default composite video that I've ever seen on a home system. Yes, it sucked that bad. The MAS S-Video upgrade I got fixed the dot crawl problem, but colors were too saturated, and edges weren't even half as defined as they are on an RGB setup. But with my new !Arcade! "ultra" modded system, I can really tell a gigantic difference.

Yeah, that's the way I go too. An unmodded US system with an RGB cable hooked up to the X-RGB2+. The picture is actually more detailed than my cab (probably cause the cab is 29"). The X-RGB2+ is definitely worth it for those of you thiking about it.

I got one Japan system modded with
s-video ,serial number between 14xxxx, The picture improved by abit but the stupid colors bleeding still stay around. Can't be help...
<img src="graemlins/blowtop.gif" border="0" alt="[Blow Top]" />

Now I get another with 06xxxx serial number, using RGB cable via scart TV. The picture rocks!! <img src="graemlins/drool2.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool 2]" />

Not all neo geo system modded with S-video will provided a superior picture, beware. <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

I dont tnink my neo is modded, but I was given a rather odd SCART lead with it.The lead has an extra wire that runs alongside the main cable from the AES to the SCART pins. Also, the cable has a switch on the head of the end of the cable witch plugs into the telly.
On good TV's (Sony 14")it turns the display from 'S-VHS type' to a much crisper full scart mode.
On crapper tellys (Daewoo 21")it turns the screen balck, though I can get a SCART picture by turning on Teletext in the background.

Seems like I must have a wierd 'special' cable..

Anyone else got something like this?
