Are you happy for Playmore to rebrand as SNK?

Now that Paymore have announced that they are to officially 're-brand' as 'SNK Neo-Geo' have they made a good decision?
Or do you think that the SNK name should have died with original company, and Playmore should use it sparingly when they release titles from the former SNK stables?

I ask because I'm sick to death of seeing the great 'Atari' name on games that dont deserve it, and I think to much trading of trade-marks goes on!
Example, the 'BMW Mini', What a crock!

I think I'd rather see Playmore releasing games under their own name, but with SNK included in the title, if they think they need to help 'place' it for the public.
Like: SNK's Samurai Spirits. By Playmore.

I guess the whole NGF 'WE ARE SNK' crap makes me a bit touchy about people using names they havent earned!

I agree that they should not use the SNK name. For one thing, THEY AREN'T SNK!!!!

They are an almost completely new set of developers and programmers that just happen to be led by some old SNK big-wigs. That does not make them SNK. In the end, though, does it REALLY matter? As long as the games are good, I will continue to be a customer.

We all know SNK is long dead. Been that way since 2000 IMO.
You could feel it when playing 2k1 and hearing that rat bastard music, those bg's dont help.
2K2 was a slap together.
I would love for someone to release a list of staff who got carried over, Just check the KOF credits when the change occcured.

I agree that the quality of the games is more important, but I cant think of an example of this where the 'new' company has approached the greatness of the original.

I'm happy that some of the games we love will continue to live on in new guises, but SNK is deader than Elvis, and even Playmore dont have the right to claim any different.

I suggest that if Playmore are determined to live off of the name of SNK, then they should choose something that shows that they are essentially a new company! wink
I think the new company name should be:
'PLAY MORE SNK' Or 'NEO-SNK'.

Playmore has had the snkneogeo web domain since they opened. I don't care if they rebrand or not, but I do say get rid of the Playmore logo.

Playmore is just as alive as Elvis is.

But it's more like: the legend lives on.

If playmore is able to release games (from now on) in the same quality as SNK did, I don't have any problems with them using that name. It might even attrackt some old SNK team members back to their roots.

A guy can dream :)

Yeah, I'm also hoping for that too. :)
Nothing beats the original SNK music team or whatever they're called.

It's quite the same question for cars. There was a debate for calling the 360 modena stradale, the 360 modena GTO. many 250 GTO fans called that sacrilege, and other found that the car deserved this name. The true is that's really good car, whatever the name.
Rebranding with SNK is just a way to rassure fans. I don't nedd to rassured, I just need to be convinced.

There`s also the 288 GTO so why shouldn`t they do it once more and also call the Stradale GTO? smirk

WRONG. They ARE snk indeed. There's a interview in snk-capcom.com or somewhere where you can read from it's president why the change of name from snk to playmore

They are NOT SNK! They bought the rights of the SNK brand and some people of SNK work at Playmore, that's all! This company is NOT SNK in any way!

But didn't Ben Herman say that Playmore is SNK, and that many of the original SNK programmers are still there or did I read/hear that wrong?

Whatever it may be, I think Playmore is a thoughtless name for an exemplary company. Besides, the name sounds like a classic case of bad Engrish and sounds sort of corny, IMO.

Hell I'm all for Playmore to revert back to the SNK name or at least throw SNK back into the name somewhere?

If SNK stands for "Shin Nihon Kikaku", or New Japan Project, why not rename the company to what is appropriate for today. For example, Playmore is no longer a "New Japan Project" is it? How about a Japanese abbreviation that stands for "Revitalized Japan Project"?

I don't think anyone should care what they are doing. Hell the only reason they supposedly call themselves Playmore was because Aruze had all the rights and shit tied up or something. But since Playmore is supposedly SNK then I think Playmore should be changed, not Sun Amusement.

Why not CNK = "Chuko Nihon Kikaku" or FNK = "Fukko Nihon Kikaku", yes, how about a FuNKy KOF lol

Eh, Playmore is SNK -all the key people including the founder had moved to Playmore in the end and the new company operated just like the old company, only temporarily held up in a different country.

A lot of the original developers still work for Playmore (according to various interviews and reassurances from Playmore execs), so I don't see the harm in calling the company SNK again.

That interview was bollocks.

Where is Tate Norio, Sha-V, Senri Kita, Shinkirou, Meeher, E. Kawasaki.

Those folks are gone. What's left are the execs that burned the original SNK into the ground in the first place. You want to suck their dick, go right ahead. I'll be back here playing SSII.

Mmmh... are you 100% sure?

I always though of Playmore as 'SNK leftout'. The remains of SNK.

AFAIK, mr. Kawasaki is still there anyway...

But Ben Herman spoke of Mr. Kawasaki as if he still works with Playmore/SNK, as said in that interview .

In interviews with this new US division of SNK they reference Mr. Kawasaki by name as the guy in charge of things at Playmore in Japan.

Yeah, but Ben Herman stinks of bullshit. I trust him about as much as I trust Capcom with Kyo in another CvS installment.

I can see your not wanting to believe him on things like XBox Live functionality for the SvC port, it's a ludicrous idea to think about doing.

I can see your not believing or wanting to believe in a 3D Metal Slug or 3D KOF on PS2.

But believing that this guy is so dumb he doesn't know the name of the highest CEO that runs his corporation? Come on, even I know the name of my companies CEO and I can tell you its a LOT bigger than Playmore is, and I'm just a first level engineer to boot - not a head of a division like Herman.

BTW, Kyo in CvS2 was for all intents and purposes KOF98 Kyo which is my favorite incarnation move wise, what'd they do to screw him up? Some combo's didn't work I can understand but he functioned move wise about as much as I'd like to see.
