Will a sunfaded insert lower the value of a AES cart?

Take for example:

Breakers
Big Tournament Golf
Super Sidekicks 4

How much do you think it is worth?

Yes, Jeff it does quite significantly

I recently bought a Breakers from Lastresort and the insert was sunfaded, but all credit to Frank he knew this and didnt hide the fact

And his asking price was 300usd shipped, and thats like a saving of around 200usd from the high end price and basically the package was absolutely mint apart from the insert

I was 3rd in line to buy this and the other 2 interested parties dropped out because of the insert - the front is quite bad but the back is perfect and it looks like i will be buying an insert from a member of the boards and Dion has one for sale for around 25usd

Cart is mint
Snaplock is mint
Manual is perfect in a baggie

If you want the games and dont worry about cosmetic flaws its a great way to pick up games a little cheaper

but alot of collectors wont be interested

:D

Jason, but what if I was the seller? All 3 games are sunfaded, and Super Sidekicks 4 looks the worst. Besides the insert, everything else is mint(cart, case, manual).

Guess I should keep them then.

certain us carts are harder to find, alright
but some japanese games dont pop up very often
AND when they do,9 times out of 10 they have a faded spine,or a faded front - or both
games like ultimate 11,ragnagard,waku,twinkle,maruko or stakes winner 2 just to name a few are often sunfaded
its not easy to have a complete japanese collection in GREAT condition
and personally,
if i'm willing and brave enough to pay 2000 for maruko
then fuckin hell,it MUST be super duper mint

i'm paying 2000 for a box and a piece of paper because it must look good on me shelf

so whats the point in stuff like:

hey guys,i'm smart,i have bought this maruko in shite condition for 1000,yes the front and the spine are sunfaded, cart is mega scratched and manual's full of them weird stains

thats stupid,IMHO

Best to keep them mate, but it really depends on how much you paid for them and teh market at the time

There could be somebody just after the game - but the value would have to be considerable less than the price guide

I managed to save around 150 - 200usd with a sunfaded insert and personally it could have been worse

Fran and Tonk (both great guys) both turned it down before it came to me and i snapped it up

You would probably get a little more if you can get the guy who did you waku Lasercopy insert to do 3 new ones for the games you have

You still may not get top $$$$$ but it will be a little more - if the inserts are that bad

Just hope you got them for a great deal Jeff

If someone said it that way, it would be very stupid. But let's say you bought Maruko and it was sunfaded, but you figured that the chances of you getting another one would be slim to none? In that case you acknowledge it's desperation.

There are only a few collectors taht seem crazy enough to run the entire course. This year we saw another one seem to jump in the race, Linus. Next year we might get another, maybe 2, but at some point there will be no more perfect maruko, ragnagard, TSS, or Master of Syougi (MoS = the most sunfadeable cart I have seen on ebay ever).

Yeah, one day it won't matter because asking for a non-sunfaded Maruko will be like asking God for a longer penis. Too late to do anything about it, and even if you got what you wanted it would most likely be fake.

well its incomplete
not imperfect

and you see that empty space left for maruko and think

one day i will find it

that means there's hope,
and thats good for your ego, yeah?

if you have a shitty maruko youd always go:

fuck,fuck,fuck everytime you see it

and that not good for your health

Yeah, but what I was saying is that it's probably not too long before 9/10 becomes 19/20 or 99/100.

capeachy?

I can stand imperfections. But if an impefect collection costs less than an imperfect cart... heh.

yeah, and I've seen so many mint Totenou 4s for sale in the past year, and none of those horrid sunfaded ones. It's all about demand and the myth of supply I guess.

It seems like a lot of the dickheads are on vacation or something, because I haven't seen them around.

I suppose it all depends on the extent of the sun fading and where it is and what game.

When you're dealing with high price stuff like Metal Slug and Quiz Chibi then sunfade really is a no no. Like Fran says, if you're gonna spend 1,000+ on a video game you want it in perfect condition.

If the front cover is sunfaded then imo the game isn't worth too much because the insert is more or less ruined. Same with the rear.

The spine for me is just about acceptable. I've had a few games sunfaded on the spine but the sunfading had been so light that it's hardly noticable.

One of my SS IV carts is sunfaded on the neo geo logo at the top of the spine. The rest of the spine is fine, just the logo. The fading is that light it looks like the logo just wasn't printed properly. Hardly cause for concern and imo not in need of slashing loads off the value. Especially as in artifical light the spine looks perfect.

Like I say just depends on how bad and where the sun fading is.

Who cares about a little sunfading anyway???

Hell, just cause I left my metal slug on my truck's dash on a hot august day, big damn deal.

I mean, come on, look at it.

If anyone had a Metal Slug 1 in that condition, they should be taken out back and shot.

I know that this is off topic, but will having a hair stuck underneath the cart sticker devalue the game? I just recently got a game with what seems like a strand of hair underneath the cart sticker. I'm just curious to know because I never really see people mention about it. Thanks.

use a blowdryer to lift the sticker from the cart and remove the hair.

Why do you think so many homecarts are faded? Possibly because they were rentals at some time or something?

Perhaps these rare games ended up sitting on the shelves of retail stores in Akihabara or Osaka too long. One Summer in Japan is enough to whitewash any cart, considering how hot it gets. And the yellow fades easiest of all the colors. Greens turn cyan, reds turn magenta. So after a few days you can be left with a pinkish and bluish insert.

Best sunfade I saw was a cyberlip - the insert was almost completely blue and white. Second runner up was a Stakes Winner 2. Same deal. There was no green on the insert at all, and owners of the game know that there should be a lush green behind the horse in the pic. :)
