Is it the "Bling Bling" of the CPO? Is it the subtle use of plexiglass to scrape your palm? Is it the "I can't fire in Metal Slug without throwing a goddam grenade and jumping at the same time" button layout? Or maybe it's the credit buttons thrust in your groin.

It's a combination of all these things that make me say...

Ugg.

The CPO is not too bad. Kinda odd, but not horrible.

The sheared off plexi is....okay I guess...it'll smoothen after a few 1000 play hours.

But the inverted button arc?

Jesus Christ at night. Someone should be shot.

What is with all of these hideous button combinations on Neo cabs as of late? Are these people drunk or on drugs, or even both when they design this stuff? That arc...I'd be afraid to play the cab because of how awkward it looks.

Yeah, I saw that up on eBay this AM. Maybe the fellow that drilled the holes got confused or disoriented. I cannot imagine someone doing that on purpose!

I think I might get a pic of one of the only neo cabs in Cincinnati. I thas a diamond shaped set up where the left and right points are a and b respetivly and the up and down verticle points are c and d. Talk about impossible to play fighters on...

WAAH! Mommy, make the bad CP go away!

Seriously, I'd HATE to play on that.

I'm gonna take a stab at why it's set up that way.

Ok...

Looking at the shape of the cab and the control panel I *think* it was a Centipede. If I'm right on that, then there is a big honkin hole in the dead center of the control panel for the trackball which would be hard to fill because the CP is metal.

So, the buttons layed out the way they are and the use of the plexi might be because they were routing around the trackball hole and they did not want the CPO to get messed up where the original holes were for the Centipede controls.

But I don't think there was just one man. This was a conspiracy and a Centipede coverup.

I'll buy the cover up story, but you'll have to convince me that there was a conspiracy. I understand the manager wanted a new game, and the mechanic was too lazy to do the conversion right...but who was the third man briggs? WHO WAS THE THIRD MAN!

For your theory to be right, there had to be at least one player who WANTED it this way. You show me that sick son of a bitch and we'll get you your warrent. :-)

On a similar note, I saw a SEGA candy cab in person in a Wal-Mart the other day . But It had a Sega Bass Fishing controller

EDITs: JEEZ! Me and my friggin grammar!

Yeah, the top one is the dreaded pie button, as we like to call them. Imagine having that and then a fourth single button up and to the right on an MVS.

WTF?!?!

I'm speechless....

I actually learned to play rather well, even when forced to use a machine with one of those and a second standard button, years ago. I do not know if it would be possible to play Street Fighter using two of those, though.

I have a control panel that I made out of a cardboard box...kinda flimsy, but it works.....well, no actually it doesn't work very well at all...

I'll try to get up a pic later.

Hell, imagine playing a Neo on a converted Virtua Fighter 3 cabinet....

....there's one at my campus in the luch room which is HORRIBLE to play. The button layout is two over two over two - the 6-button combo tilted vertically.

You have to tilt your wrist to play it. It's only barley playable from the 2-p side.

That pie button was designed by the Arcade de Sade.

Get it? See, like the Marquis...

never mind.

street fighter would be easy using one of those. All you need is dragon punch to beat the game! Just get your finger on 'roundhouse' pick ken and go to town! Man, those games were *SO* dynamic!

Well, some time ago I played KoF 2000 that had the ABC buttons in a 3-pie button, and D was in the yellow part of a 2-pie button, next to the 3-pie.

I think we should start a "Museum of Arcade Horror". I will make and post some pics of some cabs here that feature the pie buttons, among other monitor issues...
