Busta Wolf's poll inspired this topic as I wonder how many of you would like to see one, even just to see the results?

I don't think the majority here prefer Street Fighter EX over the better 2D installments but I thought it was always a nice diversion and interesting to see, nonetheless.

Now that the current systems are fully capable of displaying beautiful 3D models, ever wonder how everyone's favorite 2D fighter would look and play in 3 dimensions?

This is in no way to suggest that the series needs to evolve this way as a 3D rendition would never equal it's roots (much like a 2D Soul Calibur would pale to the 3D original), simply something that would arouse curiosity.

It would be interesting, enough if just to see the characters in 3D, are see how some play.
I personally would like to see how the game play would be, as I think some of the characters would translate well.
Like Clark and Angel for example.
I always wondered why a KoF game didnt make it to the Hyper 64, but if it ever stood a chance it was then.
So we can dream at least.

If it would be three times the game that:

Street Fighter EX
Samurai Shodwn 3D
Fatal Fury 3D

was, I STILL wouldn't want to play it...

*well maybe* :)

I don't see why couldn't still become a reality. 3D fighters still come out on the next gen systems and they still sell well.

It would at the very least be an interesting cash grab for Playmore to develop the game and have another company publish it as it would sell on any of the three systems (likely PS2 or XBOX given the GCN's awkward controller for fighting games)

IMO, I think Art of Fighting would be better suited to a 3D conversion due to the overall emphasis on normal moves and the hand-to-hand oriented special moves over projectiles and the like. AoF3 especially already feels a lot like a 3D fighter if you play a lot of both 3D and 2D. Also, so far we've already seen SS and FF in 3D but no real AoF game (Yeah I know about Buriki-1). It'd be a great oppurtunity to bring back all the AoF1 and 2 characters so that you'd have familiar faces with completely new gameplay. The Spirit Gauge could work more like the way Soul Charging in the Mitsurugi vs. Nightmare game in that it can make you're already existing moves more powerful for a while instead of it being mandatory to have the moves come out properly at all. All the AoF characters are pretty badassed in their own right, it could be profitable because you'd have the old standbys like Ryo/Robert/King in it PLUS all the old faces to draw in newcomers to the franchise (since many of them would truly be "new" to most of today's gaming audience).

If anything I think I'd rather just see a whole new franchaise created by Playmore with poly graphics and a couple of returning KoF universe characters...

You mean a game with Eiji in it so all the people complaining about him not being in 2K2 will have something new to talk about?

:D

I think a 3D KOF game would be interesting to say the least but as long as they didnt stop producing 2D ones like they did with SS. Imagine a SS game with the character designs and art from SS Wariors Rage (NG64, not that crap PS1 thing).

i would like to see a KOF 3D game as long as it was a one off and they still keep making the 2D ones. it would be cool to see all the KOF characters in 3D but some are hard to imagine though like Joe Higashi, i don't think they could capture that personality in 3D.

I'm not a fan of the entire kof series

yes 98 is a great brawler but the rest of them are pretty poor

I would love them to do an Art of Fighting, Breakers or even a Ninja Masters 3-d game would be great

but kof - personally no thanks

I am a bit annoyed that they are introducing a 9th game in the series (8th in the timeline episodes)

Why couldnt they do a:

Art of Fighting 4
Real bout Garou
Samurai Shodown 5
Last Blade 3

or even buy the rights to Ninja Masters and make a sequel

Since i am on rant mode, Come on Data east what about:

Street Hoop 2
Windjammers 2
Spinmaster 2

I'm such a fanboy :D :D :D :D

Back to your cave by god Buster! Go back to your Windjammers you bastard. Those who dare speak ill against the King of Fighters have committed blasphemy. You shall burn. :D j/k

Honestly though, it's the flag ship for the Neo Geo. As good as The Last Blade, Samurai Shodown, and Real Bout Garou Densetsu updates would be, (believe me I wish we could get new titles for all 3 series). KOF is the main cash cow, there's always going to be a decent amount of money made with it, and it's a safe bet. Doesn't mean it's right, but thats how it goes. :)

On the note of the topic, I hope we never see a 3D KOF...that would go against every reason I got the Neo. The glory of the King of Fighters in wonderful 2D. Anything else, would be a sin.

Exactly my point. It's not just the curiosity but if any SNK game were to be made in 3D now, it would easily be KOF since it's the game most recognizable to mainstreamers.

Garou, for example, would be a waste because the whole point of that game is it's animation. Just like making SF3 into a 3D game.

Simply use KOF. I'd be curious to see how the specials and strikers animated in 3D, really.

You must be the only Neo owner how owns the system mainly for it's non-SNK titles.

You are a fanboy. Now, how bout that match in Windjammers?

that is quite true - probably

But imo Snk sold out doing the kof series - trying more to make the neo mainstream - which is a financial sound descision

But i bought my Neo when Samurai Shodown was out, yes i love Art of Fighting, Yes i love the Fatal Fury series and i love older games

You all know my opinion about garou if yu dont its very pretty but its amazingly inferior to Fatal Fury Special

I am a collector and yes i own all of the king of fighter games they are okay, 98 is a very good game but if you put king of Fighters and Fatal Fury Special in front of me and asked me to pick one

FFS would win every time

and i must disagree KOF is not the flagship title of the Neo maybe it seems like that because they are so fecking many of them

Personally i dont think that Snk had a flagship title - if i had to pick one i would say Last Blade or the Samurai Shodown series

I would be happier if they were releasing Last Blade 9

Like i mentioned previously kof is a sell out to try and mass market the Neo system, 3 on 3 art of fighting would have been better

Huge characters scaling graphics etc etc etc

If anybody else takes Windjammers or Data Easts name in vane again i am gonna go fecking postal on however does it, as long as your member number is more than 6000 :D :D :D :D

For whatever it's worth, here's what I want to see... if only because I think it would do justice to the @#$%ing amazing design work of the originals...

I want a 3D version of Gekka no Kenshi, with top-notch character models, that plays as well as the originals do. I won't go into the particulars of the how, but what I'm thinking of is the look.

No shortcuts here... I want DOA3-quality levels and character models. But here's what I'd like to see on top of that: Two visual modes.

1. Normal appearance... traditional lighting and all, 60fps.
2. "Anime" appearance... cel-shaded, but done WELL, mind you, with the frame rate locked to 24fps (traditional framerate for animation/TV broadcast).

I've been wondering what this would look like for many years, even before "cel shading" was ever heard of. I finally saw something that gave me a good idea of how cool it might be... and that is Gungrave for the PS2. The cinemas are all EXTREMELY good cel-shaded 3D, with a framerate of 24fps, which makes it look extremely smooth, but not "unnaturally" so, like most 3D games tend to appear. Rent (do NOT buy) Gungrave when it comes out and you'll see what I mean.

That style combined with TONKO's designs and LB2-style gameplay...

I'm sorry, I think I need to go change. If you'll excuse me. :D

Well if a 3D KoF would play like the Hyper games...hell yes! Gimme, gimme, gimme ;)

If it would be a game like VF, DoA, TTT or whatever...please, no! You can't move a classical 2D fighter like KoF to another genre (3D fighters).

The best would be a full 3D game with a 2D scrolling!!
That way, you can have the best visual effects with the best playability!

Otherwise, I think there is still a good market for 2D figting games (an pixel graphisms) when you see guilty gear X or XX.

But the use of a powerful system (such as the naomi 1, 2 or 3 or anything similar is required!).

My opinion on a 3D KOF:
Unless it was done by someone with experience in 3D fighters (i.e. Namco, Sega), it would be doomed to failure. Lord knows we don't need another Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition. *shudder*

I'd rather see a 3D Kizuna Encounter, if anything.
