Let's pretend for moment that KOF 94 through 2000 do not exist. :)

What do you guys think is a better game (overall)?

I never bought 2K2, but thinking about it. I do enjoy 2K1, even tho some of the things aren't that great (music, background, etc)

2k2

I like the roster better and its a bit faster.

Yes BC mode sucks, but I still like 2k2 better than 2k1's striker mess.

Although Yuri's Raging Demon in 2k1 is friggin awesome... :D

I'll reply for myself and also for Fran !

2001 is better than 2002.

and 2002 will be cool when 2003 will be released.

Kinda like that ! I guess the soundtrack is just junky in KOF2001, but the gameplay is there.

And Heidern and Ralph rocks in that game. wink

Everything in KoF `02 is better than in KoF `01.
hmm
the problem is
there is NOTHING new in kof 2002
they removed combos and moves

thats not good

the way i see it

2001 is a GREAT kof to play
and the best kof with strikers
too bad the music and bgs are so shit it's almost unbelievable

i couldnt play it for a couple of months,
couldnt bring myself to play 2001 because of those bgs

but if you do play the game,it's good

kof 2002?

useless

if i want a REAL dream match,there is 98

2002 really is useless

and btw

i did not know i had a spokesman eye

I've actually heard that 2k2 did really well in the arcades...so it can't be THAT BAD.

You people make it out to be the WORST game EVAR.

good lord.

I'd say 2k2.

I like 2k1 quite a bit and the washed out backgrounds don't bother me much... BUT, although 2K1 is the best KOF for the Strikers system, I've never liked it, never saw the point of it other than a gimmick - it's pants.

2K2 reverts back to how a koF should be - No Strikers.

i played 2002
i played rotd and matri

because they are neo games

and kof 2002 more than rotd or matri,
because its still the LATEST kof episode

and kof is kof
and kof is too hot

that said,
if you asked me:

hey fran what do you think about 2002,
compared to 98?

...

Heidern in 2k1= buttrock buttrock

I seriously like 2001 over 2002 in nearly every way possible...as a single player experience. I find that playing a human opponent ends up being more entertaining in 2k2 mostly from the larger and better (Billy and Yashiro anyone) roster. 2001 is my favorite KoF thus far.

And the backgrounds aren't THAT bad. Well, the Monaco stage is pretty awful, but thats really my only gripe.

EH!! tickled

LOL!!! Fran, don't take it to the heart! I knew I was going to read a serious post regarding those two KOFs coming from you.

I really wish to play a versus match against you... You love that game series like if they were air you need to breathe!

It's opponents like that I like to challenge. wink

I have to go with 2001. The music grew on me over time, and the gameplay is my fave next to 98. 2K2 is a lot more of the same old with no real inovation. Although I love the way Kim plays in 2K2, that is the only real strong point for me in the game. Other than that, I find the changes to most other characters useless and am throughly saddended by the crap that became K9999. 2K1=better.

you guys don't understand the bc mode in 2k2, the day you guys do, you'll its the best thing playmore did since kof 94, besides that's what kof is all about evolution, if you can't keep the pace you shouldn't be a gamer for the neo.

I'm not at all into either one of them.

For now I'll stick to 94-2000

Both 01 and 02 don't have enough snk in them and if kof were about evolution, it'd look more like SvC by now... Absolutely nothing happened in the series the last 2 years..

That's pretty much how I view it.

At least with 2k1 we've got some more story, however shallow it is. 2k2 may play better, but it's got all the showings of nothing more than a filler in the series.

2k1 has the best boss in the KOF series [sorry kof fans...igniz really roolz over rugal in terms of style] an epic final battle, and new characters.

2K2 lames it all up AND they removed k9999's double stomp angry but overall, its more fun to play. i just 'respect' it a whole hell of a lot less in terms of an artistic endeavour.

A recent poll in arcadia showed that the fav KOF for arcadia readers was KOF 2002, followed by KOF 2001 and KOF 98.

Honestly, I don't think either 2001 or 2002 are bad games. For me the best in the series is 97 followed very closely by 96. 2001, I liked, a lot at first, then when 2002 hit it was like a slap in the face. The backgrounds in 2001 were pretty bad, uninspired and lame... however, I never minded the music. I actually really liked the tune for the Japan team... that fuzzy synth was sweet sounding. The rest of the music was techno trash, but it didn't put me off in anyway, maybe it is because I find most KOF music pretty sappy... and love 97... hehe, making sense?

Now that I have had some time, 2002 just lets me down. I usually play one player, since I don't have a lot of gamer friends... and to be honest, the 1p experience in 2002 is lame. No endings, no story, no reason to finish the game. Plus, Rugal is cool and all, but he bores me. 2001 atleast had a reason for me to play it, and I liked the lineup of characters. If I had to choose one out of the two, it is going to be 2001 hands down.
