Finally got a chance to play some SvC today, and I gotta say, it's a damn fine game from what I've played so far, I just gotta get better at it.

Met up with Riotoftheblood and tattoo at Ford City Mall in Chicago. Was on a pretty nice cab (don't know the name of it, Riot can tell ya) with a nice clean monitor and working controls. Ate a couple of my tokens however, but oh well. Riotoftheblood kicked my ass all over the place around 8-10 times, but anyone who has ever played him in either in real life or online, knows he's a pretty damn good player. His Iori, and then his Mai were just destroying me. :( I haven't played at the arcade in a while, though, so I kept fucking up with the controls. Still that's no excuse.

I did manage to defeat tattoo the one time I played him. :D

A few thoughts on the game.

At first it seemed a tad bit slow, but I quickly got used to it, and overall I'd say I like the speed of the game.

The game is beautiful. Everything is well animated, and I really like the sparse, open backgrounds. I didn't notice the music too much, but from what I heard, it fit nicely.

I picked mostly Guile and Akuma, and had a lot of trouble pulling off Guile's supers. Regular specials worked fine, but the supers were just giving me trouble.

I couldn't find anything to work as a wake up move, Riot was attacking and in my face anytime I hit the ground, and I couldn't do anything to back him off me once I got back up.

Shiki looks awesome, however I got destroyed when I picked her.

Was damn fun to finally play the game, and meet up with a couple people from the forums. Riot and tattoo are both definately good people, and obvious fans of 2D gaming.

Props for posting that Butta :) . I'll be up in Chicago at the end of September so I may have to find this place and get me some SvC action in before the cart comes out in Oct.

Man...Ford City Mall!
I used to play VF there all the time as a kid...

If only I still lived in Chicago...

Sounds like you had a good experience with SNK vs. Capcom, I can't wait to play it myself. Both Kevin and Roy are great guys who I wish I could meet in person and play some Neo-Geo with, your a lucky guy. Don't worry too much about Kevin kicking your ass, he kicks everyone's ass in fighters, including mine.

*Has Capcom vs. SNK 2 flashbacks*

Nice crisp cab wasn't it? I will be returning there myself soon.

Today was also my first time playing. I like it a lot so far, and have yet to learn the game system. I will definitely be picking up a home cart (probably US this time). Here are my notes on the game:

* As buttasuperb stated, the game felt rather slow at first, but oddly enough it seemed just fine before I gave it a second thought.

* The two characters that I have seen people mention as not looking like they fit with the rest of the characters graphically, Hugo and Genjuro, look just fine to me. Hugo may be ripped from 3rd Strike but when he is seen in this game in the lower resolution, he looks just fine. BTW, Earthquake also looks just fine.

* Shiki looks awesome. :D

* Balrog (boxer) looks much less bulkier than he does in any of his Capcom-made incarnations.

* I like Tabasa's character quite a bit, but she moves slowly. I'll need much more practice with her before I can use her effectively, but then again, I had used her only in Pocket Fighter before.

* Goenitz still has his ultra-cheap wind blasts, but they aren't nearly as damaging, and I found that approaching him is much less intimidating than it was in KOF '96.

* I love the conversations between the characters before the CPU battles. Even if they can be cheesy, and the idea is nothing new, they still add an interesting aspect to the game that gives it more depth. And related to that...

* The in-game character portraits are awesome.

I won't comment on the audio because I couldn't hear much with the typical arcade ambient sounds. The cab was a Dynamo Showcase, or at least something similar.

yep, i got whooped by both butta and riotoftheblood. i used Hugo and Earthquake both times and were very pleased with the way they were animated.

Earthquake is pretty huge with Hugo following not too far behind him.

the game felt a little sluggish to me but as kevin put it *quote* it seems to disapear...*quote
it is a pretty solid fighter.

it was great meeting Nick aka buttasuperb and i look forward to hanging out with him again.
