So I purchase my Neo on Ebay from a guy in Japan, and selected several games that I have decided are "must buys" and totalled up the $$$ I expect to spend, and I'm just now thinking: "Why am I doing this?" I've pretty much come to the conclusion that even though I own a PS2 and can appreciate the nu-breed 3-D graphics, gameplay and ultra realism, I'm longing for the days when realism wasn't the goal. Y'know, I play these games to escape reality, not to further experience it. So I started playing some old Atari 2600/Genesis/SNES games again just for kicks. I kinda miss the days when the high score was king and you did't have to reach a save point and continue a game that took what seemed like forever to complete. Just sit down, play a little and move on. I guess because I'm not a kid anymore, I just don't have time to devote an entire afternoon or evening on "Splinter Cell.". I've acutally sold most of my PS2 games. Anyway, that's why I am here. As I wait for my NEO to arrive, I look forward to experiencing old school 2-D heaven that it appears SNK is providing every one here.

P.S. I hate reality TV too!

First off, let me say that this is a great topic to reflect on. As the "retro gaming" community keeps on growing as time passes, I tend to often wondery why this trend is so. Current "real" games are designed to envelope the game player as the actual character in the game. This notion was first realized in the PC gaming market and is currently available in the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube environments. I feel that it's a matter of a nostalgic feeling whenever we play these great 2D games of our past because for most of us, life was easier when we were young. retro gaming induces the psyche to feel as though we have no care in the world, i.e- transports us from the stress and drama of everyday life, to a youthful carefree state of mind that helps us take on the trials and tribulations of life without having a nervous break-down. For many of us, we call this - "relaxing"

Amen!

Today's games just feel so.... Cold. And soulless. Its almost like marketing geniuses cram these "killer titles" down our throats because that's what they want us to play.

I'd say no way! I'll gladly take RB2 over Enter the Matrix any day of the week!

I was "relaxing" with Yars' Revenge last night for an hour...and...loving it, as Maxwell Smart used to say....
