Saturn ports any good

i have a saturn collecting the dust and i was wondering if any of the snk ports such as king of fighters or metal slug or waku waku 7 where any good. or sould i spend 500$ on an phantom 1 and a cart system and get the mvs versions?

also how are the loading times on the saturn

meh, theyre ports, and you get what you pay for. The loading times arent too bad, nothing over a minute if I remember. Get a P1, you wont regret it.

Agreed, Saturn ports are generally okay, but not as good as the originals. If you want a cheap alternative to homecarts, I would recommend:

1.Check the tech section to see who's selling consolized MVS boards. I believe you can get one for a few hundred bucks or so, and it will let you play MVS carts cheaply.

2.Buy a Super Gun, add an MVS board and you are set. Might be a tad more expensive than option 1.

3.Buy a Neo*Geo CD system. On the plus side, you get cheaper games, exclusive games, built in S-Video support and remixed soundtracks. On the down side, you have those evil load times everyone talks about, and the occasional missed frame of animation. You can probably get a boxed system for around $150-$200, and the games are cheap and readily available.

the 2 ports i have are pretty close(waku waku 7 and metal slug) but i you have the cash get phantom-1/home system(if you want both aes and mvs) or get a supergun for mvs..............)

you cant go wrong either way

supergoose is the man to talk about consolized MVS boards. That guy will hook you up and do and excellent job. He *almost* convinced me to dump my NGH sys and go MVS, but I love it too much to let go.

all frames no loading.
a little blurrier than the real game on the real system.

metal slug on saturn is missing frames,loads,and
over laying backgrounds that are sprites move
a little slower than the real background they cover.
like an old cartoon you can tell what can be altered

Well, being a saturn gamer and collector myself, I can say that the SNK ports that Saturn does have, are better than most of the other ports on the other systems, e.g- PSX. I haven't played MS on the X-box as yet so I cannot comment on the above reply, but I do know that if all you got is a saturn, then try some of the cheaper ports and see if it's to your liking. One such port is Real Bout/Special or even KOF 95.

KOF 95 port on the saturn is awesome.... Really, it is damn close and the load times is minimal b/c of the Rom cart. I love it.
