Howdy,
The best thing to do is get actual pics of the boards from the seller. you can then post the pics here and have our "panel of experts" tell you if its legit or not.

many times you can even tell just by the auction description or the seller if its a boot or not.

Experience is one thing money can't buy!

I would suggest having a hands-on look at a bunch of true MVS carts, to get a good feel of them! Instinctively, you would then know when somethings not quite right.

Start off small, and don't be swayed by the razzle-dazzle of some ebay auctions.

Most of these bootleg sellers are nothing more than "confidence Tricksters", they know how to lure the amatuer collector in!

Watch out for auctions that have Buy It Now for a high price, with a well-known very rare title, but no picture of the product, and dubious descriptions about the parts, such as: "New Label" / "Reprinted Label" / "Original 100% SNK Title" (Title/Game/shooter) etc. Instead of 100% original CART.

Especially watch out for anything that has an unusual color, we all know that Garou/R.O.T.Dragons = turquoise, KOF2k2 = orange, but when you see things like fatal fury special in a clear blue case, or metal slug 3 in a white case, or strikers in a black case thats when the alarm bells start ringing!

Also when buying ANYTHING on Ebay ask VERY specific questions like, "Is this cart an SNK original and not a bootleg?"

If a seller has a good number of feedbacks, they will answer you (if you get no reply, do not bid) and then you have an e-mail with them promising an original cart. That way if there is an issue, Ebay will side with you since you asked the right questions ahead of time.

“Nobody sells dollars at 20 cents” so think it twice before bidding on a “good deal”

Asking around here is a good thing... also most of the MVS sellers on Ebay have reputations, both good and bad. mdgamesales tends to sell cart-only MVS games cheap, and is totally legit. There are others (my memory is foggy, I don't want to name names and be wrong) that are rock-solid sellers, but are known to sell bootlegs, in which it would be good to email them. Then there are the slimey sons-of-bitches, who there will be angry threads about in the trade forum.
