The Neo games you don't like

We've all seen the topics asking which Neo games we love the most, but how about the ones we don't enjoy? My list is pretty small since I haven't even come close to playing all or most of the Neo's library.

Fatal Fury 3- I really wanted to like this one as it has a couple of the best BG's and BGM's I've yet to experience in a Neo fighter. Sadly though, the mix of a horrible roster, cheap AI, and awkward special move commands such as Blue Mary's really kept me from enjoying this one. I'm just thankful the RB series matured to be leaps and bounds above FF3, but I guess it had to start somewhere.

Pulstar- Gave it a few tries, but just couldn't get into it. The same also goes for Blazing Star.

KOF 2001- This one just seemed extremely bland to me although the game play was pretty decent with the exception of the strikers. I just couldn't bring myself to get into it.

AOF 2- It's another one of those SNK games that's simply to difficult to enjoy (for me anyway at least).

Samurai Shodown 3- Same as above.

Magician Lord- Same as above.

Real Bout 2- As much as I love RB 1 and Special, something just seemed off to me in RB2. I think the increased speed had quite a bit to do with it as I was accustomed to the somewhat laid back speed of RBS (my favorite fighter for the Neo).

So which Neo games make you guys say "I don't think so"?

Every World Heroes game.

Every KOF release since 2000.

Sequels like AOF2 that don't really offer anything new and rehash EVERY character from the previous game.

AOF3-The roster is small, the character designs SUCK, and the gameplay is unbalanced and quirky. Also Karman Cole seems harder than the boss. It's nice to see an original cast dropping all the old characters, (except Ryo and Robert) but characters like Lee, Mr. Big, and King kick the junk out of characters like Sinclair and Karman

-This is a overrated game and gives very few stuff that would even remotely places it next to the other FF games. And as a new hero they give us Rock Howard a slap in the face to Geese fans

Nightmare in the Dark. I just got to play this when I went to the ECC8 Street Fighter tournament in Dunellen, New Jersey last weekend. I didn't know what the fuck I was doing, and it's a stupid Bubble Bobble/Joust crossup.

The games I feel do not do the NEO GEO justice are:

Football Frenzy - Poor play mechanics and graphics are very bland.

NAM 1975 - Game is repetative and the music should have been better.

AOF3 - Characters seem "stiff" and the moves are far and not so varied. Could have been programmed way better than it turned out.

Blazing Star - Too much of an R-Type rip off.

Over-hyped as hell, and not that much fun. Sure, the graphics are beautiful, but the engine sucks ass. It seems like a fighter that punishes you for trying to fight with special moves.

King of the Monsters 2
Out and out blasphemie killing off three of the monsters from part 1. Gorgeous graphics and great soundtrack, but the game just isn't as much fun or as intense as part 1. And that's a real shame, as I consider part 1 an all-time classic.

Pulstar
Some of the best graphics you're ever going to see in a shooter, but it's too hard to be any fun. Not that I'm not up for a challenge, but learning a set path and nothing but is for the birds. If I wanted that, I'd stick to playing Dragon's Lair. At least Dragon's Lair is a little more rewarding with the cool animation.

Crossed Swords 2
A real shame on this one too. Part 1 was a great game, but this one tries too much to be different. The new play mechanics blow, the enemies look cheesier, the atmosphere is lost, and the backgrounds are copy and paste crap-a-thons.

Art of Fighting 2
Same bitchfest for Mark of the Wolves, only this one was a stepback graphically from part 1 (though some of the backgrounds look really nice). Plus, that tap or hold the buttons garbage is retarded as can be.

All World Heroes games
Weak weak weak. Perfect was a tiny step up since they finally moved on from the tap or hold bullshit, but it still sucked. Cheesy character design, terrible animations, and a flow that just doesn't feel right. Sorry Steve, nothing personal. wink

Gan Gan
This turd was an accident waiting to happen. For some reason I had more fun with it than any of the World Heroes games, but that's not saying much. Innovative in some ways, but ADK should've learned from their mistakes in the WH games. Thank God they redeemed a shred of dignity with Ninja Masters.

Last Resort
Graphics are superb, but it smacks of hurry and slop in the play mechanics. This game is a particular atrocity because shooters that were released around this time on the Genesis and SNES were blowing it out of the water. I feel sorry for the suckers that forked over $200 on this drivel. I paid $50 for the CD and still felt ripped off.

Blue's Journey
Same problems with Last resort, only the graphics are for shit. Sonic, Mario, and Bonk made Blue's Journey look like a stain on used toilet paper. You ever get the feeling SNK was just releasing a game in a particular genre to say they had that genre covered? Again, I feel for the folks that paid $200 for it back in the day...

I don't hate it.....I'm still learning it. It is the least liked Neo Game I have played. I think once I get better at it, I will like it more.

Art of Fighting 2 is a great Game, a little bit difficult, but it´s really worth gaming. Even Art of Fighting 3...

Last Resort: What do my eyes see...Last Resort is one of the best shooters on Neo for sure, remember this game have been released a long time ago! It´s really rock!

Same 4 Pulstar!!! oh_no

Magician Lord: DAMN! You aren´t a REALLY NEO-FANBOY, of course not!!! This Game is my ALL-TiME-FAV! Sure, isn´t easy to beat, but once you´ve made it, you´ll love it too! Long way, to master all Stages w/o using the Memcard! :D

Mark of the Wolves is the best 2D-Fighter today, just Virtual Fighter Evolution can beat this awesome Game! Maybe you both don´t understand the Game-Engine or Fighting-System! Have you ever made a break-Combo??? shame

Real Bout 2 - The Newcomers: I love this Game a lot, it´s straight behind Mark of the Wolves! Seems like you both give up, if a Videogame is tough to handle! Don´t pick up this Games, only 4 beginners! I mean, RB2 is a hell of a Game, much better than RB1 and RBS, even if this both titles also rock!

Hey man, you're entitled to your own opinion, even if it's wrong! wink :D

There's certainly worse shooters out there, but for comparison, play some other shooters on the Genesis, for example. Play Thunderforce 3 or 4, Robo Aleste or M.U.S.H.A., Bari Arm, Biohazard Battle, Hellfire, Insector X, or Gaiares. Some of these gems were released well before Last Resort, and on inferior hardware no less, and still surpass.

I won't argue that Last Resort is graphically a powerhouse, but the bosses are crap, the pace of the levels is lame, and the "ending" is so anti-climactic it's hardly worth sitting and playing through.

And about those bosses, give me a break! If you don't have that little option thingie, you might as well hang it up. That, my friend, is sign of bad design. Not that it get's harder if you don't have the option, it's impossible to even shoot the damn bosses (some of them anyway) without it. No shooter should be that shoddy and cheap.

Same 4 Pulstar!!!
Can you deny that Pulstar is ridiculously hard? I think it's a great looking and sounding game, who in their right mind wouldn't? But the darn difficulty is just stupid hard. But then, if you like having to memorize more than out-maneuver or out-gun, that's cool.

Mark of the Wolves is the best 2D-Fighter today, just Virtual Fighter Evolution can beat this awesome Game! Maybe you both don´t understand the Game-Engine or Fighting-System! Have you ever made a break-Combo???
By talking about Virtua Fighter in the same context of Neo Geo fighters, you've lost any and all credibility! wink :p Just joking. Actually, I understand the engine, I just think it stinks. It would great if we got a Garou 2 that fixed and tweaked the downfalls of Garou 1. With graphics and backgrounds and atmosphere like MOTW, an improved sequel would almost get me as excited as a new Metal Slug game. I just think Neo fighters, particularly the Real Bouts, have done so much better already that MOTW got the shaft somewhere, that's all.

Not being difficult, I just like debates. :D At least we both agree that the Neo Geo is awesome! We can split a few hairs over games though.
