About a year ago I thought that the neo geo had died.....that Playmore and the rest were just third rate fools not fit to call themselves neo geo.

KOF2002 and ROTD were what caused me to change my opinion.

The news section of this site has been on an electric charge for the last month, we have had matrimilee released to all round positive reviews, we have seen snk v cap, and metal slug 5, we have had samurai shodown 5 announced...the puzzle mvs game announced,I learnt that E Kawasaki and a lot of ex SNK employees were behind Playmore.......and last but not least we learnt of Playmores plans for The PS2 and gameboy advance.

All this has led to a a major increase in magazine coverage of the neo....at least in the UK.

Let us thank Playmore and also Shawn.

I fully agree... :)

But what if it was EA or Acclaim that managed to acquire the SNK rights? glee

not really

rotd and matri dont matter because i dont think playmore was directly involved

personally,
i give em one last chance

slug 5 and SVCC

if those 2 will be fucked up,
then they're better off producing pachinko games and nothing else

Playmore wasn't directly involved with KOF 2001, KOF 2002 (Eolith), or Metal Slug 4 (Mega Enterprises), and it shows in each title's quality.

Those titles were outsourced to keep fans playing (happy or not) for the time being while the company fought through litigation to secure all of its properites back from Aruze corp. Not to mention only recently claiming back the SNK name.

During the two year down time, the star programmers of the former SNK had time to create brand new titles, namely SNK vs. Capcom, and a new non-rehashed Metal Slug 5.

Playmore deserves a ton of respect. The company got all the rights back to their games, tried their best to keep fans happy even through litigation, continued to create English and Japanese versions of cart games for a 13 year old system, and is about to make the biggest comeback ever with SNK vs. Capcom Chaos. No other company fights harder for its fans than this one.

I'm sort of in the middle about Playmore.

I'm happy that they're still producing Neo games, but at the same time I don't feel that their games are worth the asking price. Games like Slug 4 and Rage are not bad games, but they certainly are NOT worth $325 for the homecart. Even KoF 2001 and 2002, much as I like them, don't have the polish that previous games in the series did.

I'm still optimistic about the future with games like KoF 2003, Slug 5 and SvC, but at the same time I'm starting to agree more with the people who said that the Neo died when SNK went under. frown

I agree completely rugal2000. Playmore has kept this system alive for the fans (us), long past the time I thought new games would cease to come out. In fact, I remember a time when I thought games like Metal Slug 3 would not even come out, or when English releases appeared to be dead forever. Here we are in June 2003, and many new games have come out, including English releases for all of them (thanks to Shawn for that!).

ROTD and Matrimelee are enjoyable games that don't just plug away at the KOF franchise, and so are nice to see. Now with future titles like Slug 5 and Samurai 5 apparently in the works, and even possibly for home cart, things are really looking great for the Neo. Also, I fully support Playmore's porting of their great games to other systems like the PS2 and XBox; it gives many people a chance to try them out for reasonable prices, and preserves these games beyond the limited releases on the Neo.

Anyway, agree completely and thanks for posting this, as it really hits the mark. :)

Agree 100% with this really, the new neo games aren't as good as the older ones,we such be thank full for brand new releases, would you rather be playing old games all the time or have some new ones.If games like SNK vs Capcom and Metal slug 5 live up to the hype all is good.

Sure chances of the next Metal slug 3 or KOF 98 looks slim at the moment, but at least there are new titles to be played

I think anyone who keeps the neo alive with new titles deserves credit.

This AESHOLE above know what he speaks although he tends to be abit too negative. I was 100% behind Playmore resurrecting the Neo Geo but after seeing what they've put their stamp of approval on I find myself not really giving a damn.
Playmore has to step it up or parallel themselves to the quality SNK has achieved.
They are selling NAMES ,not GAMES right now and if they continue to not meet or achieve a higher level than SNK they'll be out of business very soon.

But the key thing is they are selling games that recreate the flavour and atmosphere of the mid 90's arcade scene.
These games always had a unique atmosphere and KOF2002 and ROTD also have it in abundance.
