Well, I am sure I am like 10 years late on this or something,lol...But I am really loving Top Hunter!! I liked it a lot when I thought it was just the guy running around, jumping back and forth, and throwing things...

then I start pulling off the blowout moves and super blowout moves and I am freaking loving it!

My wrists are kinda F'd up, so I can't really play it that much, but I put about 20 minutes into it and am LOVING THIS GAME!!

anyone else like or dislike this game? and the reasons?

I think it's a good game that could've been great had they not done that whole line hopping thing. I really dig the the whole look and atmosphere of the game though. Some of those graphics have amazing amounts of detail.

I got this one years ago on cd (nice loading times) to add variety to my young collection ( i was 15 i think).

It does look stunning for sure, some real nice colour and detail, especially the level with the rocks in the air, and the area 51 style background, the wind effect was top notch.

Nice music in places, just the whol thing is a little repetitive.

Cool for cheap, strange, i have NEVER seen a home or mvs version on ebay uk, or for sale in the uk for years.

"i have NEVER seen a home or mvs version on ebay uk, or for sale in the uk for years."

I haven't seen a home copy for some time either, but got this (AES) one for $70 shipped off of Robert Wallace in the sellers forum.

As for the hoping back and forth thing, I really like it! IMO of course...it adds a lot to the game and makes it better then just about any side scrolling arcade game I have ever played...

of course I haven't played that many, but I would rather play this then any game from the Mario or Sonic series'

I always wanted a beat-em-up type game where they put fighting game type moves like fireballs and uppercuts etc. I also really liked how they have the powerwave in there and the rush, as well as the dropping punch from the sky.

Anyway, the repetitious thing is a consern, but once I can pull off all the blowout moves everytime, I will find ways to mix up combos and stuff. Also, the 2 player feature is gonna be great!!!

Now all I need is the MVS version so I don't run out of credits, lol

anyone else?

I guess Top Hunter was intended to be a flagship for the neo but somehow it failed.

It have awesome graphics (at the same level of detail as Metal Slug 1 in places but not as good animation), the characters were promoted in many games (KOF'94) and even the NeoGeo animation than appeared in the japanese comercials, special moves came from all SNK fighters...

I guess it intended to be the Neogeo's Sonic/Mario...

But the hop between planes is a bad approach to make a 3d-esque game.

Just get yourself a Neo CD and pick it up on there, and you've got infinite credits on there too. That's the only way I could personally hstand a chance to whip this quarter muncher. :)

You played this game with a friend yet? That's when the whole line hopping get's confusing, let me tell you. Playing alone it's not too bad.

Actually I have only played with two players once and it was for a very very short time...

But I am sure I will try it over the next couple days :D

The game even has some Mario type music at sertain points...

I think this game would be way more confusing if two people were on the same plane all the time, but again, I haven't tried it in two players for a good amount of time yet.

If I get a neo mem card, will I be able to save this game with worlds completed and continue later?

Can you start out where you are on a level when you die on your last credit if you have a mem card? Or is it back to the very start of the world?
================================================

Edit: I doubt I will go with the neo CD, and I don't have the system. I do have a 4 slot though...but really just want to be able to save the game at the spot I die and be able to start there later....

is it possible?

When you receive game over a snk (logo/intro) appers the neo geo logo drops and a voice says "SNK" it´s really cool, I never saw that intro in another NG game.

Also, in the spine, the game picture, from the japanese version of the home cart, was done with a beta cart in 93. have a look.

Top Hunter was one of the few titles I bought brand new for my home system many years ago. I now have it both for the Neo CD and on MVS, and it is still an awesome game!

Top Hunter is a fantastic game. The special moves are definitely what make it so fun. It's fun mowing down enemies with the Burn Knuckle, or getting more points out of a Zanretsu-Ken or Genei-Kyaku.... it's such a nice homage to their past fighting games.

It's definitely a bit repetitive though, especially on home systems. There's a whopping 13 levels, but on MVS there's only 9... (all the other levels ARE in the game, but you'll only play two each based on when you select to play each World)

Can you save your game on the mvs version? or any version? and how does that work with where you leave off in the game?

Thanks!

I played it again for about 30 minutes and although I still have a bit of a tough time doing the powerwave, using all the moves makes it even better.

some day I will get a mem card, lol!

The voice and logo seem to be a tie-in to the SNK commercials of the time... yet another connection to this game being SNK's Mario.
