Ok finally played the hype machine that is SVC Chaos. Chicago people if you want to make a trek to Nickel City in Northbrook its worth it because well, there was nobody playing it. Yes this was mid-day, bigger crowd for it at night? possibly. I played nonstop for 80mins straight, round after round. The people around me varying from teens to probably 20s were playing MvC2 and GGXX not even giving a glance to SVC. As I suspected and I said this a while ago this game is a HYPE monster. Does that mean its not good? no not at all but i didnt freak out when i saw it. I try to be a sceptic with this stuff especially this current title that has far too much hype, however for Neo fans its a big deal regardless as myself included is just thankful for continued NEO support. Im not going to give super details on individuals moves becuase we have seen plenty of those reviews, im just giving you a good honest impression of the game without being overtaken by HYPE.

-One of the biggest things i noticed right away is why people felt there is no way this could be on regular MVS hardware? I didnt see where graphics or effects got so spectacular that it couldnt be on the same hardware?

-the game play is tight, definitely a plus, however playing the CPU can really suck. Sometimes I had matches where the CPU was fighitng like a human doing all sorts of different moves etc.. other times the characters turned into Johan from ROTD, SUPER CHEAP. The graphics look great but they arent mind blowing i guess, not sure what to say, I mean i have always loved classic neo 2D so i guess this is a good thing but people who freak out about some FX chip etc, well i dont see how one is needed.

-I played with the following characters:
Violent Ken (my favorite, what a badass)
Shiki (tied with violent Ken again, badass)
Dimitri (damn, what a bad ass haha)

those three were by far my favorite charaters in game simply made the game worth it for me. I also played with Ryu, Tessa, Terry, Zero (pretty damn cool), M.bison, Vega, Kim (almost made it into my top three very solid, moves felt great).

Biggest upset character wise, Genjuro doesnt belong in this game. Im sorry but to me it felt crappy, he felt too slow for this game. One of the main points of the game I enjoy is the nice speed it has but Genjuro just doesnt work out in this department. However I have often felt sword fighters shoudl stay in sam sho and last blade series anyway.

Backgrounds for what i saw it felt quite like a Playmore effort, could have been much much better. Still liked them for the most part, I liek the whole dark feel they gave but still felt things where missing. My favorite stage was probably the Forest.

Make of this what you will. I just thought I would share my experience from a person not sold on the HYPE but wanting to experience whether the game is really as good as its presented to be. I feel my predictions were correct as well as several other Neo board members who stated, "this game will be huge for us and not the public". Thats just the way it was, but thats also the way I want it, I dont need a huge crowd of bumbling idiots that tend to flock around the SC2 machines and then go play madden. I would rather have true neo good old 2D fans. Yes i want playmore to be successful but only successful enough to keep in business and keep the games coming, getting too big turns the games into shit. Is this a blockbuster title? yea, for us not for the rest of the world. Playmore should be doing whatever they can to sell this an stop thinking they are high an mighty with this title an expect the $$ to come rolling in. Thats why I feel they shoudlnt jeopardize the MVS cart market, they should take what they can get and not limit things at this stage in the game.

Is it worth $1000? in my opinion, never. Buy the homecart for $325? definitely, easily worth it and definitely support the neostore on this one. MVS, the most I would pay for the cart is probably $400 right now. As for that big inconvenient PCB maybe 200-250 at this point.

**The previous were my opinions and from someone not blinded by the hype, I definitely want this on MVS, and it just might be close to being the best Neo game to date but more time would be needed with the game to determine that.

(PS there was a kids party going on in the back and there were atleast 10 hot milfs, that was nice)

Heh nice dude. Did you get a hands on review of those milfs too?

Err but seriously thanks for your impressions on SvC. I like the backgrounds from what i've seen in the videos and screenshots. Like you said it kind of makes the game seem sort of dark. I'm looking forward to playing this bad boy. Probably going to have to wait until the ports or the mvs cart comes out (if it does). It sure sucks to live where no arcades are.

np, trying to give a straight non hyped impression. I went again earlier this time at night to see how it was. It was me and about 5 others, they basically said its ok and think it kind of sucks. They were also ALL Capcom fanboys  , like tournament heads from the city so i felt zero SNK love. Whatever they stuck to their Third Strike and MvC2 when waiting for their turn. I like 3rd Strike myself but i just didnt like that they only used Ryu or Hugo and man they they do some repetitive shit. Whatever more SNK for us, they'll never understand.

I agree about the whole Genjyuro being too slow thing. When I saw someone pick him at Otakon, all his moves took forever to get pulled off, his attacks were slow, and his movement was slow.

Just doesn't fit in.

Don't judge a book by its cover. You probably came in too late. The only person there I saw that could use Genjuro was Neojedi. And yep, he kicked major butt with Genjuro as well. The brand new juggles that man has, impressed the heck out of me. Don't take him lightly, he can surprise you and lo you just got air juggled into his supers. Kind of like Haohmaru, he has to be played more Samurai Style in order to be effective. Playing him like someone else will just leave him looking slow. And at Otakon, many were doing just that. In fact, just from what I saw of Neojedi's performance of him, he seems a lot better than CvsS2 Haohmaru.

genjuro can be an absolute machine as ive discovered lately, he tears some characters but others can take him..

against gen dont use : ryo

do use : mr karate (c.HK into fb, sweep as genjuro lands and dont try to take him in the air unless you jump first and hit on the way up)

That's exactly why I started out by running up 20 wins with Genjuro... too many people were criticizing him. For whatever reason, SNK couldn't build his game around the qcf+C chains like it is in Samurai Shodown. What they did give him is an excellent fireball trap at long range and a dangerous close range throw move that juggles into his super.

He's still powerful, but not quite what people expected.

I remember really not liking the feeling of Haohmaru and Hibiki in CvS2.

I'm not saying I have high expectations of Genj now, which would be detrimental, but really, I don't like mixing the weaposn and no weapons recklessly.

It can work, but it's not like it makes any sense when a guy with a sword hacks you 10 times, and you still beat him with your bare hands.

Within reason, puh leez.

Yeah, but you're playing a games where people can shoot fire out of their mouth/hands, teleport, throw tornadoes out of their swords, or ignite themselves on fire and spin toward you. No need to reason whether or not they can take a few slashes from a sword.

Like I said - within reason - yes, we have a guy who tosses huge playing cards at his enemies, and a fat teleporting ninja who can send out a projectile fart. I can deal with moving farts and flying cards, but when one person has a sword, and the other doesn't, and that unarmed person doesn't have a sword catch move (HCF before contact), I don't see how they can either block, much less deal out the same level of damage.

I mean, - with all that muscle, is Genjuro still so weak that he needs a sword to do the same damage as Dan?

That's my problem.

Anyhow.

I have to agree, with the exception of Shiki since her swords are smaller and doesnt't come off as a power weapon user like Genjuro.

I think it would've been nicer if they included characters like Lee or Akari from LB, or Nicotene or Mizuki from SS. They're still weapon users to a certain degree, but don't feel as nearly out of place as the giant sword users do.
