I am finding the AES unfulfilling and its hard as hell to find the games in the condition I want them in and they are expensive as hell .

I think I am going to switch back to MVS and collect new kits as I find them , as it is I dont play with the AES carts I have ...I am too scared to hurt them , I want to play and enjoy my games .

Or do you think I am making a mistake ?
its going to be harder to find complete kits of MVS titles ...I know this ....but I feel that MVS is more fitting to my lifestyle .

I have just bought myself a supergun because I can't afford to pay the prices for AES carts.

I'd go with MVS if you don't want to worry about the value of the carts or whatever. I mean, I try to be careful when I'm inserting/removing carts but with a 6-slot the same games tend to stay there for a good month or two before I rotate them round. A lot less ware and tare :)

I went MVS myself. I just get loose carts, a shockbox, and a nice little insert, and it's more than enough for me. Best way to enjoy a little bit of the artistry that comes with the homecart games, while not being afraid to get "omg I got a scuff mark" paranoia. I'm trying to get a homecart system right now though, just for the sake of having old school games in homecart format (such as early FF, AOF, SS, and WH games).

that's the same reason i got a phantom-1 i was sick of selling my aes gamee to buy more of them, and i was sick of having to worry about my games getting banged up. i'm usually one of the guys who doesn't give a shit about stuff, and i found myslf becoming too anal; so i decided to bite the bullet and pick up a p-1. and now i can get games for cheap, and not have to care at all about them getting messed up, as all i wanna do is play em.

I've said this many times before, but if you want to enjoy the most out of the Neo with a bit of collecting flair, go for MVS loose carts with art sets- Just going after MVS kits will be just as much of a pain in the AES wink and lets face it- the only thing cool about a kit anyways is the art and stuff. I could care less about a cardboard box and matching serials. Getting the art sets gives just the right amount of "hunting satisfaction" so to speak without breaking your bank.

Well I allready own a few kits I have mostly kits of games not available on the AES ....the cardboard box would definately be important to me ..to me its all or nothing .

I also have tons of loose MVS carts allready of the games I like to play most ...so I have plenty to play ...as I said they will be harder to find ...but they will come around eventually .
Since I have plenty of my favorites to play allready ...I wont be in a rush to get them .

I started with a CD...

Then went to a CDZ...

Then went to an AES...

Then got a Phantom...

And now I am thinking about getting a cabinet as I am finding some games that are not 100 percent compatible with the device. Some few are AOF3, Samurai Shodown 4, and Waku Waku 7... It is just pixilation garble in intense effects and zooms, but, it is so irritating. And yet it is bizarre, because AOF3 is no MOTW when it comes to effects and the Phantom doesn't work 100 percent with it. And yet, Last Blade 2, which is beautiful plays like a dream with the Phantom. It is a wierd device. I have talked to a few people with similar problems, it just isn't perfect.

I like you and many others cannot afford to spend 500 bucks on a MOTW AES cart. MVS carts are much more affordable and a shock box and a well-printed insert can go a long way. I have also been thinking of a supergun device, I am not sure what I wanna do.

I share your dillema...

I say go with both. I do and I get the best of both worlds and always the best prices on particular titles.

I just got a 2 slot MVS and two games from an arcade for 100 bucks. If you look around you'll find some kick ass deals. Now I'm going to buy up the carts that guy has. And then I'll get a SuperNova this Christmas.

So you just kinda strolled in and said, "How about a hundred bucks for this 2 slot board and 2 games?" I mean, how did that go down? If you ask arcade people around here if they want to sell their machines they tell you to get lost.

And did he just sell you the 2 slot board, or did you get a whole cabinet??? I have heard of such deals. Guess I have not this form of extraordinary luck.

Personally i like mvs for 2 reasons: Its cheaper then the home system and i enjoy owning arcade hardware. Getting a 2 slot board and building my own supergun and controller was a lot of fun. So i guess that do it yourself thing appealed to me a lot.

Get a cab, its the best way to Neo. You get the games at reasonable prices and you get the actual arcade feel. Plus you can never underestimate how cool it is to have an arcade machine in your house.

Thats actually how I started ...so I know the feeling .

What turned me off is the cabinets , I went through 3 of ...its a horror story actually

The first Neo cabinet was Neo converted from a defender cab . it was nice and small ....nice except for the TERMITES ! I scrapped that machine and sold the parts ...

Later I bought a Neo Candy 29 it worked great for a while ...then it started to have monitor problems , I was planning on having it repaired but it turns out for the same price I could half pay for a new one ...so I sold the neo candy 29 to a vendor and decided to buy a Super Neo candy .

When it got to my house it was in pieces ! and I didnt get a full refund on the item ...many of you allready know this story ...I took the parts from the Super Neo candy and built my homebrew supergun .

Next time I get a cab I think its going to be BRAND NEW
unfortunately new ones are about 1200$

Gah! That one hell of a streak of bad luck with cabs. Maybe you should just get a nice new super gun or a Phantom 1. :D

If you get a cab, a candy is nice, even though some don't like how close the conrols are. The candy I got has handles on the sides and back, and also has wheels on the bottom-back, making it quite easy to move. Also, 2 people can pretty easily move a candy cab. It's always good if you can find something local so you can pick it up (or pay the seller to deliver it), or else you may easily spend $150-300 + palleting fees depending on the seller and the distance.

Go to MVS and forget the over-rated AES. I personally only buy loose carts, and I think you don't necessary need only complete kits, you can also use cool shockboxes with inserts for the older games hard to find in complete kit form. And if not check this collection! buttrock

I'd say go MVS obviously, but I think Bobak is right going both ways really is nice as I can't deny the sexyness of just having a home cart system. The way it looks with the game in there is just friggin awesome, beautiful hardware design aesthetically, but it's hardly economical.

Honestly I just buy loose carts of older games (which are more expensive than most new games on AES) and put them in the ShockBoxes and inserts, but I really do try to buy new kits for the new Neo games that come out that I enjoy.

Still collecting only "MVS Kits" is almost a more expensive hobby than getting AES carts, although its just as rewarding. I think stuff like that is great for "the hunt" for a particular game in a certain condition, but when you get it you will have the same worries about scuffing up the games. Thing is nothing is like finding that pristine Kit or cart and its so nice to just have you know.

Kinda why I'm not so much into the homecarts or complete kits, when you get something like that they're just so beautiful that I'd almost feel guilty using them. I mean when I get a game I play it to hell and I don't want to have to worry about keeping it mint (although I do my best to make sure it stays as nice as possible), but I do like having those beat up old classics so I don't have to worry about keeping it nice. Heh check out this page to see how bad my KOF98 cart is (and also why I love the ShockBoxes so much wink ).

It's hard to find a balance between collector and gamer, which is why I really think that Bobak's way of doing things is probably by far the best. Get the "precious titles" on home cart (aka the classics) and get the more expensive games as a loose cart and put it in a shock box. It'd really give you the best of both worlds. :D

I've bounced back and forth so many times.

This is my final conclusion:

I only collect the "best" games on homecart. Yes they are more expensive (the majority anyway) but for me, the best ones are the only games that deserve to be in the home cart format. You know..the cherries of the bunch. some include:

Waku Waku 7
Baseball Stars 2
Sam Shodown series
MOTW
Last Blades
KOF 98
ect.

The others are what MVS carts are for..the "lower end quality games" Games like Slug 4, ROTD, all the King of Fighters save '98*, Super Spy, ect...

*I hate KOF

This way I will have a kick ass, yet expensive home cart library but it will only be made up of around 30 or so games. The rest will be on MVS.
