Just curious as to what people refer to when they say they're Neo fans.
Thinking about it, this might be one of the reasons there's so much dissention regarding Playmore possibly moving on to new hardware. If you're primarily into the Neo simply because of SNK, than of course you don't care what platform the games are playing on. However, if you're a fan of the system itself, than you'll probably find yourself firmly rooted in the opposite camp.
For me, I'm a fan of the Neo system - SNK was just the company that made the games and hardware - a means to an end. To be truthful, I had never even really noticed them as anything other than an arcade license, or 3rd party NES developer until they debuted the Neo.
Not to say that SNK didn't have something special - they're programmers and artists were some of the best the industry had to offer, IMO. It's just that, for me anyway, it's always been the Neo itself that's drawn me in. Really, some of my favorite games on the system aren't even made by SNK directly.
There was (and is) just something about the system, about the way it sounds, the particular look of it's graphics, the way the games control... It's hard to explain, but this really is THE system for me.
I guess that's why, although I was saddened when the old SNK I grew up with suddenly folded, I didn't see it as the end of the world as the Neo itself would still continue. While I agree that the majority of the newer titles lack that special "something", I still find them incredibly fun to play, and have no regrets on Playmore's decision to continue to support the hardware.
So, am I alone here, or does anyone else feel the same?
