Why is the Metal Slug 1 cart worth so much?

I'm kind of new here and noticed that the original Metal Slug goes for an insane amount of money. I guess that also can be said about 2-X, but my question is why? I know that it's an amazing game as the entire MS series is, but is it really worth almost $2,000 dollars?

nope. price jackers have ahd their way with buyers. Screwballs, like Tonk for example, would pay any price to get their ahnds on that cart.

I wouldn't, but then again, I value the neoCD version more...

This is the reason why i have a Neo Cab and a MAS Supergun....AES games just are not worth the money IMO. No game is worth $2000 unless its solid gold and can clean the house :D

Once again...its not that its worth more than any other game such as World heroes or any other reasonably low priced game. As the years went on after the Neo's so called glory years I call them, when neo was really popular on and a few years after it was inroduced production was in higher numbers. But with the bringing of 32 bit systems such playstation and sega saturn and so on, SNK kinda fell out of the scene. Not that they were out, just had a following of not so many as before the "cd game" era I call it.
95 and on is the year I believe, gamers lost interest in the system. But ....SNK went on...to produce sequals and even new games in their old fashion style with newer and better graphics.

Not long ago, 2 years or so , a fad began. A collectors era and vintage gamers time. Some games became in demand and prices sky rocketed due to the limited numbers and collectors willing to part with their games.

Looking from my point of view when I first grabbed my Neo-Geo out of the closet 3 years ago and dusting it off, I thought , I wonder what new games after I stopped playing in 92 came out for the system. I found them very very hard to find. Wanting the samurai shodown series I came across Shawns site and saw 2,3,and 4 all US and the only carts he had. I was amazed at many things. first that these were what I wanted and could not find them anywhere, and that they really expensive still after all the years that have passed. I set out to collect only Samurai Shodowns, but then it began. The addiction to collect the fighters I call it. Every rare game to come buy that caught my eye I had to have. And thus 2 years later provides the collection I have today.

So you see what it is now. Many have this cart. Not as many that have World heroes or Samurai Shodown but enough, and they do not want to part with it. So when one does, its a fight to who wants it the most and how bad. Price jackers?
I don't believe in it. If someone is so dumb as to go buy what someone tell them its worth then they really are a shallow individual. It all has to do with numbers. There just are not enough to go around , so the price is increased. Its all simple mathmatics of buisness. If I do not win a cart because someone hit a higher price than I was willing to go, I don't scream price jacking , I simply did not want it as bad as the other person did.

I just hope that the whole FATAL FURY - SERiES, incl. RB, RBS, RB II and MotW will increase...

But don´t ask me why METAL SLUG is that worth...
=> There must be maybe a mistake!
The game is amazing of couse, but worth $1500,00+, i wouldn´t answer these question like: "YEA, it is worth that price..."
But that´s life- and dead of the NEO-GEO-WORLD...Hehe!!! <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

the CD version is amazing!

Real small load times between levels,

and the 'combat school' is not in the AES version...

the Ngcd version kicks ass...

People have had argue that $2000 is too much, and MS should be $500-$800. The game was expensive at $500-$800 (also a lot of $$ too), because everybody whined about the price then too. MS has been a hot topic, because it is HOT. So, due to newbies, NeoGeo wannabes, poorer gamers, and the whiner, "Liquid Snake," Metal Slug 1 JPN/US homecart has steadily increased in value.
