First I have to say welcome to NG.com/world. Here you will meet lots 2D gamers who love old school consoles like Neo Geo, Genesis, and so forth and so on.

I've been in Neo scene for a long time and I would like to share my personal experience when you first enter Neo world.

Do not sell your game collection just for Neo!

I have seen so many people spend their hard-earn money into Neo console, and try to start their AES collection by selling their Genesis/Saturn/DC/PS2/Xbox collection just for few AES games. That's really stupid as one or two weeks later they realize that the AES game(s) they bought aren't that exciting or worth the money. Or even worse, they can't afford other AES games anytime soon but hunger for........

Don't do that.......

That's all I have to say at this time. Good luck in Neo world

adding on to what liquid snake already mentioned, if you have neo geo, do not get married. married = wife <> neo geo means goodbye to your neo geo or at the very least, your neo geo purchase will get really slim fast. wife and neo geo does not mix together well. good luck you neo newbs! wink

Guess I'm lucky... my GF understands my NEO game buying, and understands me buying them IF I sell other stuff first.

She won't change if we marry either.

On the other hand, the only game she plays is stinkin The Sims...

This is not always the case. My wife digs the Neo. Hell, she let me put a 6 slot MVS cab in our living room.

Luck of the draw, its all the luck of the draw. :D

I hear you buddy, nice advice!!
I purchased a Neo about 2 months back.
I racked my brains for nearly 2 weeks wether to sell my Final Fantasy collection and put the dough towards a Metal Slug 1.
I thought about selling my Xbox and games and put towards Metal Slug 1.

I thought back to my SNES days and realised if I had kept all my SNES games they would be worth a fortune now.
I didnt sell nothing and instead of spending a heap of dough on 1 game I now have 5 Neo Geo games, all old ones, but damn there fun to play...and more importantly I still have all the stuff I had before I got the Neo.
So basically my collecrtion is worth more now as I have just added a Neo, 5games, mem card and extra controller, all boxed and complete.

More importantly I get to go through the 'ageing' faze of the Neo and realise how games got better and better through time.
I have also been able to save up nearly %80 of the cost of SNK vs Capcom. ($600AU for me inc postage)

(I'm a huge blow_top Capcom blow_top fan and MUST have this game...so much for 'ageing' process....but i brought a Neo for this game.)

Peace

only true collectors let their collections amass
into huger collections.
definitely a pack rat possession.

hahah
but all kidding aside.
what i do is not sell what i like and find redeeming value from.
its a sad feeling to sell something and feel the
itch to play it a few months down the line.
whatever i get usually are games that i know i like
so i usually dont ever get rid of anything except
the things i find in bargin bins that i usually get
to check it out for the hell of it.
ie a 10-15 dollar gc game.
i ve been finding more and more my gc collection
is a poor selection to play save for most of the
nintendo or SEGA games.
but thats an off thought.
but mr snake is right.
especially with NEO games as having a generally higher
price than most conventional games.
but then again the NEO GEO is anything but conventional.

Liquid Snake posted this same thing in my selling forum just a week or 2 ago. Since then, I've sold my XBOX and bought an AES system. Could you please explain to me why you advize against this so much? I've sold and traded a bunch of games I never play for a system that I do play. It makes me rather happy. I've been wanting a neo geo since 1993 or some time around then, finally owning one makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

I rather have an AES system than an XBOX. XBOX barely has any good games for it, so, I think you did a good thing. But, if you sold your PS2 collection, that's another story.

I can say there isn't any good game on Xbox, GC, DC, PS2 and list will go on and on.

But keep in mind that most of time you'll not get every penny back once you sell them.

I understand that Neo is your dream console since 1993 but keep in mind it IS an expensive hobby.

Like others already mentioned, you'll regret few months later...

It has happened to me before, so I don't want to see it happens to you.

I just traded my PS2 and games for an AES and games. I think I got a decent deal considering I never played the PS2 anymore.

I don't like to sell games I play. I still have many of my favortie titles for the SNES (minus Earthbound and Chrono Trigger :( ). My entire collection of PS games, DC games, GC games, and the newer style NES with the games I love.

The thing about the Neo Geo is to figure what you plan on buying once you buy an AES . . . Here's my list:

Sam Sho 2
Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout FFS or RBFF2 (I haven't decided yet)
KOF 94,95,96,and 98
Last Blade 1
SVC:C

That's about it, so I won't be spending an ungodly amount, especially if I choose the Japanese versions.

Maybe somewhere down the road I'll get LB2 and MOTW . . . I'm not too interested in LB2, but it'd definately be nice to have MOTW.

The thing about the Neo Geo, is your games may actually increase in value as time goes by, unlike your mass produced GC, PS2, or Xbox games, which are doomed to become landfill.

I agree with what Liquid Snake is saying. Don't sell games and systems you honestly enjoy to get a Neo. I've taken the cheap way out and gone the mvs route but i still only have a few MVS carts simply because i don't earn a lot of money and new titles on the current crop of systems that i am having fun with are coming out as well. Its really just a matter of what you like. I like Neo games as much as the next guy but not enough to sell a few systems and games that i enjoy to get a homecart or two.

I'm with Roker. I try to buy games that I know will get played and save a little by getting the more expensive games in mvs format.

Here's my list of games:
MS1-2-3, LB1-2, SS1-2-3, Puzzle Bobble, viewpoint, blazing star, kotm 1-2, Magical drop3,
shock troopers1, MotW, Magician lord...

Games i'd like to get someday:
Pulstar, MS5, SS4-0, SNKvsCap, Nam75, puzzlebobble2, KoF98, Sengoku1, turfmasters.

I might try to get after that: MS4-X, sengoku2-3, strikers1945plus, cyberlip, money puzzle exchanger.

I think any of the above games would be a great addition to a neo geo gaming library. I wouldnt recommend getting KotM2..I have it because it came in a package deal wink

Hope this helps on some ideas for which titles to choose :)
