If you had to choose one KOF game to buy from '97 - 2000, which one would you pick? I'm having trouble deciding.

'97 has always been my fave, but I have a feeling the overwhelming majority will go to '98.

97 if you like a great storyline, and traditional snk quality. I would say a better one player experience.

2000 if you are looking for great asthetics, strikers and overall fun factor. better 2 player game.

I also think 96 is one of the best.

97.

I like it more than 98 for gameplay (o. chris, terry, yamazaki, benimaru, and definitely Blue Mary are better in '97), but 98 has a better roster. I never think about 99 or 2000. It's not that they suck. They're just forgettable (after 98).

98 or 97.... I like 97's graphical styles alittle more, but 98 is smooth as butter. Forget 99/2000, they aren't that great.

I like 98 and 2k as I think they both offer the best from their respective "sagas" so to speak.

Both have different styles of play from one another and offer a different expericnce for you and are worth owning if you asked me. :)

'98, pure and simple. Though '99 is good too. I want both! :D

In my eyes, 98 hands down. For playing against friends for hours, 98. If you're into the story I would say 97 or even 2000 (I loved the new style and characters that came with 2000). 98 is, IMHO, one of the best games EVER made.

'99. SNK put more into that game than any of the other 3. Still, 2000 and '97 are both tempting as well.

yeah i am with evilwasabi on this. i get the toss up decision too between kof97 and 98. i lean towards 97 more because of the hit priorities like with terry's rising tackle or kyo's knuckle punches. orochi iori and leona a major plus. the orochi new face team A+++++. the boss, orochi mudderf$#%%# cheap badass but fun to fight with. i did wish that orochi was playable. i would pick 97 with 98 a very close second. ahhh hel i would buy both coz these two are fuggin tossups... :D

Hmm...it's seems like a toss between '97 and 2000. The reason why I keep thinking '99 is for that cool-as-hell rain background. '98 I think I can pass on (have it on DC).

So should it be story or crazy striker action?

97 or 2000? I would pick 97. 97's backgrounds alone kick 2000 to the curb. :)

Of all of them, I think 99 is the prettiest. But I think 97 has the coolest storyline. Ah hell, they're all good. I wasn't much help was I...(If you don't mind trading your gamecube and some games, Devilredeemed is looking to trade his KOF 99 us, a bargain to be sure, except the shipping to Argentina, ouch)

98 - Best gameplay and roster. I essence an upgraded 97 with no storyline.

And

99 - Best looking and sounding game in the series imho. The gameplay and roster is not up there with 98 thought.

97 - Take KOF 98, take away some characters, take away most of the sounds (many stages just have ambient noises) and make the graphics somewhat lesser. That is 97.

2000 - Striker-mania. This game is all about strikers, and there´s lots of them. Replat value is extremely high but the game in core is just around par.

Thats my opinion.

I hate to jump on the rickety old 98 bandwagon....but facts are facts and 98 is just a compilation of everything that was good from 94-97. How could they miss?? I'm asking you! I dont know.

99, 2000, 97. All excellent games in their own right. JUST excellent though. 98 is phenomenal!

98 is just great in 2P mode. Good varierty leads to a good time when you randomly select your characters and try to learn them all. The game plays very solid and feels right. It feels like 97, actually. I cant tell much of a difference myself.

Looks wise, 98 has it all. Animations, BGS. Blah blah. we all know of this. For a kof game, it looks the best. I just dont like the marble hallway stage. Bleh.

Mummum. 99 is a great game to, dont get me wrong, I just dont like the character roster as much. Not as "colourful". Technically, a great looking and playing game, but I need 98s chars.

Though, I really liked Kriz. A lot.

2000. Great, but things are getting tired. Bland excellence. AWESOME soundtrack. The last time we had one from SNK/Playmore was this one.

BUt really, on CD, DC, PSX, MVS, HC, etc, this one is the BEST bang for your buck. Make sure to get all versions or you suck,.

if you like doing crazy combos then 97 is far better than 98.

i myself would get 97, for the cool ass combos.

98 is of course good, 99 and 2000 i wouldnt even consider.
