this question must have been asked a 1,000 (and if it hasn't been it should have been) so make this 1001.

why oh why are the prices of the neo store incompatible for the most part with prices suggested in the price guide. this a)defeats all purpose for the price guide and b)creates a paradox and makes for major inconsistency. I mean are we to take the different sections of this site as seperate and unrelated? I am just asking here ok? no need for anyone to get defensive. I just don't understand. Maybe if Pamela Anderson rubbed up against them then yes, I would get it (not a bad idea for promotion mind you).

It really does'nt matter @ this point. This issue of the guides validity is an "age old" argument.
It is a guide, not the rule.
I personally consider it a general gauge of what a game is supposed to be worth but in the end, supply vs demand is king.
The STORE backs up my statements and if the STORE wishes to sell something 1000% above the guide,it's the STORE's prerogative. It is the DEMAND that will determine if the price is accurate.
It only takes one buyer of a rare item to "raise the bar". I remember when Metal Slug was selling for 500.00 in the mid 90's and missed grabbing one by fifty bucks(still kicking myself),NOW LOOK.

I also think that if the prices were "too good" that the neo store would have nothing left to sell. I see it as a backup, besides the new complete and almost complete carts.
PS: the neo store's shipping is supa fast! I ordered my ROTD cart on sat, and recieved it on tue. daddy like...

I just bought a Samurai Shodown 4 US complete home cart for 85 USD.

Keep in mind that the whole world isn't aware of the price guide and the insane amount of money people pay around these boards.

WHAT?! eek!
I don' believe you got an English SamSho4 for that price. They don't even go close for that on ebay.

Remember, when you buy a cart from the NEO STORE expenses have to be covered. There are more things factored into buying a cart from Shawn than buying one from another member. The Neo Store has to turn a profit to remain an equitable business.

Remember, Shawn runs a business and businesses have to recoup not only the money for the purchase of said carts, but also the costs of running his business. electricity, web space, fax lines, shipping materials...etc . If not he would only be getting a return on the actual items sold. That means everything else would be an out of pocket expense ( means he's losing money and not making money).

In the grand scheme of things, more sales occur between us members than through the Neo Store. Shawn does sell merchandise, just not as much as what goes on in the market forums. That's why I intend to buy all of my New releases from the Neo Store. It's not to be a kiss ass to Shawn. It's to show the man some gratitude for running this site, allowing us to sell amongst each other using the forums he pays for. Also, for keeping the US/Euro carts scene alive for people like me who appreciate having English artwork to read.

Finally, I don't mind paying more in the Neo Store because most importantly, I wont be worried when I send Shawn my money. There will be no stickers, no stamps, no corrected inserts...no bullshit lies. Just a smooth deal with a guy that has some integrity. That to me is worth the extra money. Dealing with Shawn = good night sleep for we while waiting for my carts to arrive. buttrock :D  glee

I don't have any problens with the new releases and their prices.

My point is that the price guide is evil and should be axed.

The sole purpose of the price guide is to jack up prices. The market would be much better without it.

Metallizer,

You have a good point. What people have to remember is the price guide is just what it says.....a guide. It's nothing etched in stone. People only refer to the price guide when it benefits them. There is nothing OFFICIAL about it. It is only there to give you an idea of what the game MIGHT cost. There are others who will disagree.

I'm a collector. It would benefit me to strictly use the Price Guide if I was going to sell. Although, I don't think it's right. Basically, it all comes down to supply and demand. If there is a high demand for a game in low supply, it will generate outrageous sales figures. You want a good example.....Euro Kizuna Encounter. (Hypothetical Situation here folks) What would happen to the price guide if Playmore found 300-500 of these in a warehouse and decided to sell them to the public at regular AES prices. The person who spent $11,000.00 on the last one sold would shit his pants.

The guide can only reflect what the last person paid. Caveat Emptor---- Buyer Beware. Buyers have all the power. Just depends on how they want to use it. Kizuna only sold as much as it did because people were too eager to offer thousands of dollars. I don't criticise those that wanted this for their collection. My question is:

When you go to buy a car or a house do you run to the dealer/real estate company and offer an insane amount to purchase or do you try to get the best deal possible. Sometimes, we collectors are our own worst enemy.

Remember, I am not flaming anyone here. The people who made offers and or person who actually bought Kizuna did so because they could AFFORD to. I cannot and I openly admit it. Therefore people can keep their comments of me being jealous to themselves. Just because I have the means to buy something, doesn't mean I will buy something.

Sorry for the long read. Just got carried away. Let the flames begin.

I too am a collector. I paid more than guide value on games, as well as low guide value for other games. It's just a matter of how much you are willing to pay and at the end of it, if you are really happy with your purchase.

The thing is that he haven't bought it at ebay but yes In a brazilian auctions site.

Yes, indeed it would have been much more expensive if it was spotted at ebay. wink

But the price guide it's out of control, even stores I used to buy NGH used carts for a fair price now are looking at the price guide to settle their prices.

About the Kizunas, you are right there might be tons of Kizunas in a warehouse somewhere, I don't think SNK made an EURO insert and an EURO manual printed 2 copies of it and shipped to SNK Europe.

I bought this cheap because it was an auction with a "buy it now" feature.

otherwise it would had ended at ~200 USD

I only had this chance of buying a SS4US because the seller isn't aware of the price guide.

It takes a big man to admit they can't spend $11,000 on a neo home cart. Don't worry, you'll get out of poverty soon. I commend your bravery...

I hate the price guides mainly because they don't reflect reality at all, there are a ton of Neo Geo CD games I want and if I got some of them for anywhere near the top price listed in the Neo Geo CD guide then I would be happy... Riding Hero $25, Big Tournament Golf $45, Crossed Swords 2, $40... lol... Anyone got a BTG they want to sell at $45? Anyone? Riding Hero $25? Didn't think so....

I picked up a Riding Hero US sealed and I've not posted it up in the sales forum still got 6 people PM and emailing me about it, all of them wanting it, all of them offering a pittance.... Should have a nice trade with Metal Slug for it.

The Neo Geo CD price guide should be re-written preferablely not by someone who has smoked a few joints whilst writing it... :/
