After 12 years.... level 2 is my ownage.

Damn it took me this long to beat level 2 of Magician Lord in Default difficulty 4.

This game is hard, or I suck, either way, it is hard for me!

Level 3 is surprisingly "easy" compared to 2. I got through that after a few (hundred) tries. Level 4, here I come.

I beat the game months ago. Level 2 is nothing compared to level 5, 6, and 7. In level 8 you have to fight all the mini-bosses and the main boss on just 3 lives! You get a special power up to face the main boss. If you are good you may be able to get to him with 1 life to spare but most people can't beat all 7 mini-bosses. The head guy is a real hardass but can be beaten. However, if it took you that long to beat stage 2 then I have no idea how long it will take you to beat stage 5 - the morphing level stage.

It will always be one of my favorite games of all time, but alas, I will probably never see the end crying I have played sessions of ML for hours and never gotten past stage 2! I suck more than you apparently frown

At one time I could complete Magician Lord with one credit, to be honest I dont think I could achieve that goal anymore, old age I think

Who would agree with me and say that Magician Lord had a terrible ending...

My AES version was the one that made the difficult game even more difficult. Each time you lost a life, you had to start ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STAGE! (if the level was long enough, then you would start at the midpoint). The best I could do was level 3. Too hard for me.

It is all memorization. I beat this game the first day I got it. Just hang in there and remember exactly where enemies come out, which kind, what attacks they have, when they do them. Then you will be a ML master. It is like contra, or other old-school games, just get the memorization going.

I didn´t beat it and plan to rebuy it, i only had a bare cart before.

Magician Lord is a great game and it´s hardcore as hell. I could beat myself up to level 4-5 without losing a life but the latter levels are insane!

The final boss was hard as few and i never got a tactic for him. The guardians and bosses are all great.

No, I played this game for the firs time months ago, it looks very old. The main character moves like if he suffers from arthritis.

I do not understand why people like it so much, I prefer Burning Fight, Sengoku, Robo Army and Nam 75 to this game.

BTW my Jap cart has unlimited continues so it does not matter how bad you are at it.

Well may be saying “if you do not like ML something must be wrong with you” is defending one’s opinion, but it is based on nothing but subjectivity.

I still think that ML is very overrated and even quite mediocre, at least nowadays, bad animation, average enemies, without many variety, and not really an exciting or appealing game play.

I will try to play it more though.

I really like and admire people with personality, who are able to build up his own opinion about things, but it does not mean anything to me sentences like “You are wrong, I am right”.

Then I looked at the date and I saw games like Super Mario 3 on the NES, Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis, and Super Mario World on the SNES all came out around the same time, and those are leagues ahead of Magician Lord on all levels of gameplay, graphics, and sound.

I think ML's graphics is way better than anything that came out at the time... Sure, Super Mario World has more variety than ML, but ML's graphics, level 1 alone, is better than anything the SNES had done till maybe 93/94.

Gameplay wise, I can see why people don't like it. I got used to the control, and it becomes a very satisfying game. It is one of those games on the neo where I never ever get sick of. That's why I decide to play again and beat level 2.

True, the game require you to memorize the board but there is always a certain luck factor with enemies that randomly pop out of nowhere (frustrate me to no end, hehe).

To those who have finish it: Kudos to you, I know I will probably never beat it but the journey is still worth it!

I think part of the problem is that alot of Neo Fans become fans much later on.... like post 95... for many reasons, age, fighting game craze, samurai shodowns, KOF's, etc... I remember playing ML the first time in the arcade and my jaws dropped. Perhaps it is the nostaglic factor, who knows.

ML is sex in your mouth.
Its old school and the carts box art is fucking fantastic.
I mean this is the game you would play on a cab back in the day while waiting for your pizza to come, and even if you lost, YOU STILL PLAYED IT.

ML is like Alpha Mission 2, and ASO 2 is one of my fave shooters of all time.

I still say Goro is a mother fucker in 2k1
