Is there any way to get screen shots while in game? Basically how do the magazine companies do it and can we as consumers do this?

Thanks

If you have a supergun setup with MVS you can use the pause dipswitch to pause the game at any time and use a S-video capable capture card for the PC to take a snapshot. On a AES you can only pause in certain places IIRC, so you'd only be able to take screenshots of certain things. Perhaps one can take a video capture and grab frames from that.

Of course there's an illegal way to do this but if you wanna be legal the above will work fine.

If you have an emulator with the rom, you can take screenshots and save them as a bmp file.

I use an RGB capture card with some custom software (Which I traded a neo setup for, happily enough) rigged to a foot pedal* so I can snap pics without moving my hands from the stick.

Consumer-grade capture cards only snap pics at 30Hz, so you'll get two frames blurrily superimposed most of the time. Unfortunately higher end cards that do a real 60Hz are many hundreds of dollars. The best screengrab I've seen is on a $1200 card - it looks like an emulator screendump.

Lawrence.

*it's not really a foot pedal so much as a neo stick on the floor with all the buttons mapped to 'screendump'. =)

[edit: Here's a sample]

Damnit lawrence. envy I remember seeing screengrabs of Rez on the gamesx board that someone (you?) made with an rgb capture card for comparison purposes and I've wanted one since, but the price for a truly nice one is just beyond my means. : envy:
