Hey, just wanted to get some feedback on my insert.

For those interested in such things, I did it completely in Illustrator and Photoshop is really what I'm good at, so be completely honest. I'm asking for a "critique" so I expect people to be "critical".

Thanks.

It appears that you've removed the boling pins, some other things and changed the color of the background..

It's very clear..what are we looking for here??

God, I wish I knew how to use these friggin' art programs. the inserts I make could be so much better with the knowhow. That outline view is totally foreign to me. Probably why my inserts are a million megs and Trey's are only 40.

Anyway, I agree with BB that there need to be some pins in the pic. Other than that, it's great! I love the fact that it is all original art too! Very cool. The BG color is perfect for that game too. I have a League Bowling on the way, among others, from Cosmicco. I would love to use this image as my inerst.

Finish it up, get a back design and a spine, and we're in business!

Thanks to those who posted comments.

BB- You really think the pins should be there? I sorta opted them out so I could have the art as big as possible without cutting half of the pins off. I could probably get 2 or 3 of them in there at the current size. I don't know about the pins at his feet though. Oh, and I forgot the SNK Bowling Center, thanks for pointing that out.

RyoGeo- Illustrator really isn't hard, you just have to master the pen tool. Once you do that it's all gravy. Photoshop is difficult but you can teach yourself it. You seem to really want to learn and that's the big step, after that it'll all fall into place.

The reason you have big file sizes is because you use all bitmaps. Trey also uses vector elements for a lot of his inserts.

First, they print very VERY well. Second, they are very small byte-wise. Third, they can be resized without losing quality.

I could blow this up big enough to cover a building and it'll still be very sharp and crisp.

This insert is all vector art, except for the screen shots. Right now it's about an 8 meg Illustrator file, which is about 6.xMB as an .eps file. Now that Big Bear is having us do inserts in .eps and .eps supports vector objects, you should be able to trim a whole lot of Megs from your files. Things like the Meg count, The background color, all of the text... try setting these as vector images in Illustrator or try downloading GiMP from Download.com and give that a whirl <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">.

You gotta have those pins there!! They make the whole illustration..(that particular one) Unless you decided to change it up big time.It does'nt matter if the ones near his fee don't get full shot because you can't see their facial expressions anyways..
-BB

BTW,which version of Illustrator do you use?

9.

But I didn't use any transparancy so this could easily have been done in 8 or 7 (Little bit of Gradient Mesh, but nothing major).

Why do you ask?

That's from the Samurai 2 Template he did earlier..
Why did I ask what version?? Just asking...
I was wondering did you sketch in the rest of the bowling ball along with the fee after you moved the logo down??
I really like how rich the colors are!! The purple/pink background I'm diggin'
Drop me e-mail sometime... I'll give you HONEST feedback on what I think...

Yeah, the 202 is from my SS2 insert, the meg count is usually the last thing I change. It's not really a pressing issue...it's just type.

The purple/pink background was Bugula's suggestion, so he should draw the credit for that...it was definately a good call.

I'm glad everyone likes it so far, and I'll Email you BB.

P.S.
For those interested I should have the front, spine and back done by Monday evening.
I'll have to download the ROM and do some screen caps (before anyone wigs out, I do own the game...as Rancor so smooooooothly mentioned I bought his copy, so let's have some calm).

Up next is Neo-Bomberman and Then Puzzle Bobble.

Okay. I've added the pins. The two that rest near his feet were cut-off and it did look cheap, so I removed them completely.

I don't know how I feel about just 3 pins.

I'd still like to hear peoples opinions.

What does it look like now..
update the pic.

Okay... I see it now..
anyway you can make the bowling pins face appear to be looking at the ball in fear?? you know, slant the eyes and toungue into the ball's direction....so we can see as well..sorta like the pin above it on the top LEFT side(the pics right side but your left)..

Added the back and spine.

I'm not super happy with the back, but that is the hard part.

Also note that I have to drop in the SNK logo beneath the bowling ball and I have fixed the 'e'...I'm just about too lazy to upload it so...trust me.

Barring minor changes (such as fonts, font sizes and copy) the insert is done.

Any final comments before I ship it to BigBear?

The final size is abou 960Kb, 3 .eps files in a RAR archive if anyone would be so kind as to try it out on their printer.

Thank you again.

Special Thanks to Bugula and Big Bear for their suggested changes.

Hopefully this post will. spare another llama.
