Man, I hate this guy... He is boring and...etc
Why people thinks that he is great ? Man, I don't see anything cool at him, even Sol is much better than him... What do you think ?

its that hadoken that made street fighter famous.yes ryu is boring but powerful too.he has a small amount of moves but a deadly ones at that.

It can be argued that Ryu is the poster boy of fighting games.

Much much easier to say than something like:

Actually, didn't Capcom announce a few years back that Ken was the SFII poster boy and not Ryu, because fans liked him more?

Since Sf started i was a Ryu player , but more and more in the last few months I've switched to Ken. He just seems to be a Ryu with a little bit more speed.

Ryu is basically a cool fighter but someone who has been made boring by Capcom's refusal to update his moves...... unlike Kyo and Terry, Ryu never changes his moves, and very rarely learns a new move. This makes him too overly familiar compared to other fighters, but its something that Capcom do with all of their Streetfighter characters..... there Vampire characters always get changed move lists in every game though.

My opinion is that ryu is the same for street fighter as Kyo is for KOF.

I always liked playing with Ryu though! His moves are slow but powerfull.... just look at his super moves in CVS!! <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">

Ryu is a hobo with a bandanna, big deal, Krauser can pulverise him easily.
3 normal moves...3 overpowered special moves, a fanboys dream.

Ryu is the benchmark for Capcom fighting games. No big deal. It isn't hard to be very good at Ryu. Or any charcter if given the time.
What I don't get is why some people used to pronounce RYU as RYE-U. Does someone call RYO:RYE-O?

Ryu is fundamental, and simple personified. There are many characters out there that are flamboyant and the companies change their looks and moves every so often but they still do not match up to Ryu who is the benchmark of what a fundamental fighter should be like. Don't get me wrong I like many of the characters that are constantly being updated but nothing beats a down to business, hard-nosed, get the job done, fundamental fighter. Beauty in simplicity is all I have to say about Ryu.

i agree ryu is a good fighter but in my opinion he gets kind of boring cause of his simplicity still terry could take on ryu and ken at the same time! <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">

Ken is better than Ryu. Ken looks and acts cooler than Ryu, and his normal moves (i.e. his shoryuken with a flame, tatsumaki sempukiaku that hits several times, etc.) and super special arts (i.e. the awesome antiair one where you must press the button repeadetly, etc.) look cooler than Ryu's. But still, my favorite characters from SF are Q, Yun, and Yang.

I originally stated that Ryu is the original kick ass fighter...... and hell, I still stand by that.

He also inspired countless clones....

But thinking about it..... Hanzou could take him. Hanzou has learned new tricks every time and kept fresh. Ryu is pretty much the same dude.

Just the potato he sticks down his pants to impress Chun Li. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

I guess people just picked him the most because he is the average character. Average speed, average strength, etc. They wanted to play a balanced character for their first one, and just stuck with him.

I learned to play SFII using Blanka, though, and did not learn to use Ryu until I was familiar with most of the other characters.
