Personally, I hope there isn't a sequal for at least another two years...
As it stands, CvS2 sounds like it's going to be a monster hit, the same as how SFII made an impact when it first hit arcades. Finally, we have an advanced hybrid fighter that takes aspects from all fighting games (past and present), and puts them together in this wonderful mix. Sure, it won't be perfect by any means... but it still will be a monumental to say the least.
With all of the added features in CvS2, the 6 Grooves and adjustable ratios, there is a LOT that can be done with this game. It would take a lot longer than a year to uncover all of the strategies and ideas in this game. Even MvC2 (a game in which I personally don't care too much for), with its strict 12 character top tier domination, still thrives for they are still finding new things out with the game even after its first year of release. This wouldn't have happened if MvC3 was out within a year, for then a lot of the new techniques people are grasping in this game would have never been found since everyone would have went to the next game. CvS2 has much more depth than MvC2, so why would you want to get a sequal before getting everything that the earlier one have to offer?
If they even try to release CvS3 before 2003, it would be a silly move on Capcom and SNK's behalf. Let CvS2 run its course, then make one upgrade to it about a year or so later... THEN come out with CvS3 a couple of years down the road. Don't make CvS a yearly event like Final Fantasy... it will lose some of its impact falling in that sort of trap.
