Ryu: Unbeatable gaming god?

While replying to that Ryu/Ken/Alex topic, I started to think about something... Has Ryu ever been cleanly beaten? Everytime, he's beat by anyone, Capcom always throw in an excuse. Examples: Alpha 1, beaten by Ken and Sagat. Explanation? Well, He didn't fight with his full power against Sagat, and Ken and Ryu were just "Sparring" due to none of them being injured afterwards...... In Alpha 2: Ken beats him: Somethings screwing with his mind. Sagat Beats him: as in Alpha 1, he didn't use his whole power. Sakura beats him: went easy on her. Alpha 3: Ryu is possessed by Bison the whole time, so any win is irrelevent. Even SSF2X did this with Sagats ending, with once again, Sagat saying "Ryu let him win" So..... whats the deal?!!? Do Capcom just want this guy to be unbeatable forever????? Can the mascot never lose or something?

GRAAAAAAAH! Ryu, Ryu, Ryu! It's just Ryu! He never loses and never will! Not even Alex, Ken, Bison, Gill or Sagat can beat him! Why's Capcom doing this? Actually I should be hero of SF.. since I got the guts and potential! What do you say Kyosuke? Hinata?

Well... You are already the Hero of the Rival Schools series.. so being a hero for 2 games isn't fair. I think Ken or Alex should take his place.. After all, no one's perfect.

Edit: Look at SNK.. They've got the guts to change their lead star from Kyo to K' and they might be doing it again in KOF2K1. Capcom should learn from them.. Ikimasu!

i read some where that the only man to beat Ryu was Guy

i think it came from a Capcom SF'Zero comicbook, but am not sure

Manga/comic books is not canon. Although they're oftentimes great stories, they mean nothing to the continuity.

Well in my distinct opinion if Ryu went up against Snk regulars like K', Kyo or Iori he would so get smashed in one round. :)

I honestly think that Ryu is an awesome character. However he clearly has had his time and in my opinion should have been whipped by Akuma in SSF2T, and Gill should wipe the floor with him in SF3.

As far as SF3 Alpha goes, Ryu gets lucky that he is possessed by Bison because frankly Sagat would rip him to shreds. Trust me, if you get to an arcade and see SF3 Alpha in the corner and you have some spare change and want to go the distance choose Sagat as your character. Unbelievable. This is the best you'll ever see Sagat performing...

If you look at Sf history, Ryu is only a strong contender for most of the games thats it. He is only really a bitch in CVS, SF3, and sometimes the alphas, but thanks to v ism, most characters have there own strategies, just as good as Ryu's. Look at the versus games, his just ok. When vs.and other SF games came out he was a top pick, but as the games life extended Ryu was always put down to contender levels.

Ken is better and we all know it. Street Fighter alpha anime was one big slap in the face for Ken and I will never forgive them (Capcom) for it.

The only reason Ryu has so much energy is that he never beats off and is till a virgin.

Ryu needs a slap,

Ryu is weak.

Hell it still makes me laugh to this very day seeing players use Iori,super and go right under Ryus "undefeatable always reliable" fireball.

Thats cheap they moan... "wahhh"

Fools! Your Ryu is nothing! :p :D :p

Oh yeah! At least Ryu doesnt wear clothes styled in the eighties. Ryu just wears the same clothes he wore in the eighties but they are always cool.

Well, we do know Ryu didn't win in SF2. In SF2 Ken gets married and in SF3 Ken has a kid named Mel. My guess is Ryu finally lost to Ken cleanly.

You could also say that Chun Li won the tournament... because of the death of M. Bison and Urien's quote about it in SF3 3rd Strike. M. Bison only seems to truely die in Chun Li's ending, T. Hawks is a little mysterious as it doesn't show what T. Hawk did to him......

Yeah, I buy that. To be honest, I think that Chun Li killed him after the tournament had ended.... I also think her ending in Alpha 3 is the true ending... seeing as it shows Cammy is alive after the explosion.

the only thing I don't like about Ryu is that he's a shoto GAMEPLAY-WISE and it just makes me sick how casual Gay-mers love to pick on this dude and feel they can beat anyone. I hate the way he's so common in SF challenge-fests, and believe me I've seen an alpha 3 tournament of 16 players via King of the ring elimination format and all of them were using the shotos (with Ryu being the most often) and that just bored me massively..

Character-wise: I respect his agenda but i don't find him relatable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Capcom fan. But, I hate the amount of people who play as Ryu, or Ken, or Gouki. It's a real pain, as it shows that most Streetfighter players are just boring. I love it when I look at a Capcom Arcade game and the guy playing it is using Sodom, Rolento or Rose, or someone else like that. Or Especially Vega..... <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I agree. I'm sick of seeing Ryu EVERYWHERE. I recently watched the Street Fighter II V series (finally) and I was getting sick of seing the animation of his waving of his arms around before he unleashes the hadoken...

I'd like to see more of some other, non-shoto characters myself, like Cammy (yes, Cammy!).

im a long time capcom fan but im getting sick of looking at ryu i can`t stand to look at him in cvs because i know how strong he is he sickens me to no end in that game
