What do you think of these 2 forms of fighters? Does each company need to make more charge characters, or grapplers? Who's your favorite from both types?

I dont like characters with all charge moves like guile. Characters like Kim and Ralf are some of my fav's though.

There are too few charge characters and too many fireball/dp type characters out there. I love Guile cause he could be a super turtler and switch to offence immediately. The speed and recovery of his sonic boom back in the old days gave him a good pressure game and that is what I think is lacking from charge characters. Charge characters are disadvantaged because they can't pull the move anytime they want. They should be given greater speed or faster recovery to compensate.

Capcom's grapplers are too weak. Weak in the sense only experienced players can use them. Even then it takes tones of practice.

Charge characters are cool if their not shell heads like Guile. I've heard bad things about Robert since he became a charge character (Especially the whole he's just like Guile and whatnot...), though I still use him as an offense character myself even after he became a charge character. I can't stand Guile because of the small recovery on his Sonic Boom. Thank god SNK doesn't give their charge characters those annoying super motions like Capcom does. I use to hate grapplers, but I've warmed up to them. As far as grapplers goes, aside from Alex, Victor and Sasquatch; the Capcom bunch fails to impress me. SNK has the better grapplers by far. The fact I can pull off command throws at any time instead of after jumping, getting up off the ground, or after missing a glowing backhand (Zangief; ever the king of cheap!) helps also. And once again, the super throws aren't next to impossible to pull off on the SNK side of the house either. As far as favorites from the genres; Alex and Daimon will always be my favorite grapplers and I guess Robert's my favorite charge since he's always been a favorite of mine.

I love both of these types of fighters. I especially like Capcom's grapple characters. The 360 motion is admittedly an acquired taste, but once you get used to it you can pull them off without necessarily using some of the usual tactics (junping, getting up etc.). It's possible to pull a screw piledriver off just from a standing position (not easy but possible). I don't mind the 720 motions either.

Inversely, I actually have trouble doing the standard SNK grapple throw (hcb, f). I don't know why - maybe because I'm so used to the 360. I also can't do the hcb X 2 going towards the right for some reason. I usually need to do a jump in to get the regular or DM command throws to work. So I guess I'm the opposite of YeldellGW in that regard.

I like Robert as a charge character - it's a novel change. He can be offensive too, it's just a chhange in the play style. I do wish they'd change hiss diving kick back to the 98 command though.

I find it interesting that most of the charge characters in games have similar moves and play alike.... Guile, Charlie, Remy and Robert all spring to mind. Weird how no charge character (I can think of) has a Riseing PUNCH move.... there all kicks...... strange.

Oro from SF3 has a rising punch charge move. Actually there's a pretty fair variety in charge characters: Vega, M. Bison, Balrog, Dee Jay, Blanka, Leona etc. Guile-ish characters are fairly popular though (mostly due to Capcom having one in each of their SF series).

Capcom's charge characters are okay. I like Blanka, Guile, etc.
But the best charge player of all time is..... Captain Kidd! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

The thing about charge/grapple characters is that there shouldn't be any character that has ONLY charge moves of ONLY grapple moves.

This is what I like about the SNK characters, where characters like Kim and Leona are useful dispite the fact that they must charge. Kim is a charge character, but he has some moves that don't require charging like his qcb+k move, or the downwards aerial kick. Guile on the other hand suffers majorly because he is a charge-only character with very limited moves. You can only rely on his regular attacks and the range of his kicks when not using his charge moves. Not to say it is impossible to use charge characters, just that their moves aren't as easy to pull off as qcf/dp characters.

In SF2, every character was used because they were all so different. But in games nowadays, with characters having so many more moves, its hard to waste time on such limited characters like Guile in a serious match IMO.

Well I would like to see grapplers that can connect their throws from a normal move like they do in KOF,that's all

And with what Krusader said about a character with both charge and others moves, that's really good idea

As someone who trains in Jiu-Jitsu I really like Geese and Goro Daimon (yes it's Judo I know). I also like playing as Blue Mary. The ability to catch attacks is great. I love second guessing people. It adds a whole new dimension for fighitng games.
Just seeing the look on someone's face when I play as Geese in Capom vs. SNK whenI catch their dragon punch makes it all worth it.
