Who do you use? What strategies do you use?

Posted this over at S-C.com, may as well fish around here too:

I just got my ass kicked royally by a dude using Shotos. Now I like to think that I'm a somewhat decent player, but the way I was being handled was pretty embarrassing (I even stuck around for 5 other matches where I got my ass kicked). I guess it takes an ass-beating to make you wanna get better.

Anyway, my team consisted of Kim, Rock, and Terry for the most part. My Kim was able to take him down a good chunk, but this guy was putting mad pressure on me. From the likes I've never seen before. I couldn't get any anti-air move to hit him, such as Kim's "Hien-Zan", or Rock/Terry's "Rising Tackle". It was pissing me off because the priority this bitch had over me. When I DID hit him, we only traded hits. It was enough to have me reading FAQs for the past hour.

So what characters do you use? What do you do that you've found works good against opponents? What do you do in a tight squeeze? I want to hear anything any good player has to offer.

I used to tolerate shotos, but now I despise them because they're made so strong in some games that they dominate because of some scrub button-mashing or being cheap.

I've started to expand my characters for this game. My most recent addition to my roster is Yamazaki, something which is kind of a shock to me since I'm not fond of slower characters. I barely know how to use him, yet I took out someone's Blanka using just him.

Experiment with different characters or go into intense training with the ones you listed. I've been working with my Orochi team (Yamazaki/Vice/Iori) and the results are pretty positive. And good luck to you. :)

Heh, since I last made that post my game play as increased probably 300%. Shotos aren't that big of a deal to me anymore, however, I am interested in hearing about your Yamazaki strats. I've fooled around with him a little, but nothing serious. He seems like a real deadly player, if used right.

Yami is very good, very handy for snatching players out of mid-air when you least expect it

I mainly use Kyo & Mai

With Kyo I keep the pressure on and off while with Mai i tend to wait a lil bit and once i see a opening it's combo time

My third member alternates between Kim, King, Yami, Joe, Ryo, and Geese.

With Kim, King, Yami, and Geese it's pressure all the way, I won't stop until your character is laying face down

With Joe and Ryo i try to keep the combos coming then finish a combo with a DM

course since I've been playing CvS2 a whole lot more( mainly for tournys and to ease my longing for SvC ) my tactics are changing

I might be swallowing my pride and investing in an X-box and PS2 just to play you guys. :D

My friend at work (the same one I ranted about a few months back) is now developing a taste for the SNK side. He even said he created some deadly traps with Vice and Iori. I shall keep you posted on that one.

With Yamazaki I prefer to keep my distance and wear the opponent down when they try to attack me. Since not alot of people seem to be familiar with him where I am I get the upper hand. Now to experiment with more agressive Yamazaki tatics...

Swallow that pride! I've played quite a few people online (while not as much as some others), but here are some bad, BAD habits people do online (some of the people I've played from the boards can take note too) which include:

Slowing down your game when your opponent has very little life left. I'll tell you right now that I've demolished through teams because of my opponent doing just that. The first round is fine, we both play extremely well, I win, but have 30% of my life left. Their next guy comes in thinking "since it's only gonna take a couple hits to kill him, I won't have to try that hard". That right there is the end of them. Not only am I still playing as good as I was before, I am probably playing even better because now my guy has low life, and I need to squeeze everything I can out of him. Milk him for all he's worth.

When the tables get turned like that (me playing better, more cautious, them slowing their game because it won't take much to kill me), it's almost a guaranteed win for me. Never, EVER let your game slip.

I'm guilty of doing this at times, but most of the time I catch myself. Like doing just the above, my first guy with little life takes out everybody except the last guy with half life, then I come in thinking the match is mine, only to get beaten to my last guy in return. But by then I'm already pissed because my own tactics worked against me so I turn on the heat :D

What the hell, I might as well put in my characters and strats I use.

First things first, I never pick 3 characters in the game. I just don't like the idea of having two R1 characters with one R2 character. As for characters, I use a wide variety of SNK characters, the only characters I don't use are the slow ones like Rugal and Yamazaki. These are the teams I usually use: Joe/Geese, Terry/Iori, Kyo/Athena, Haohmura/Nakororu, and Kim/Yuri. These are my main teams. I also like to use K groove, especially team SamSho. Shoto scrubs are no problem using this, while canceling out their fireballs, your rage gauge increases and recovering a sliver of your life back. Hell, I once recover 1/8 of my life just by canceling a fireball throwing scrub. (I know, its not much but better than nothing.)

For rollers, just stop their rolling with a throw. Don't worry if they say your cheap, they're the one who started it.
