How do you play 97 and 98?
As for me, I need advanced. I don't know why some people like the first three games in the series because of the simple fact that there is no advanced mode

Advanced. It's much easier to use within battle. Charging for the Extra bar lets you open for attacks. Also, when having the right amount of stocks, you can press the ABC buttons and double your damage on your opponent.

Advanced all the way. You don't have to worry about getting your supers charged. The advantage you get with Extra mode is the infinite supers when nearly dead. But the energy left is so little, it's not worth the trouble.

In CvS, I do like the SNK groove (similar to Extra mode). The bar gets red with quite a lot of energy left. God knows Mai/Ryu players abuse it...

I still like the 'Advanced' mode (Capcom groove) of CvS better, tho.

There's a reason why people prefer Advanced, and it's nothing to do with supers.

It's called Running.

Not being able to run is just too big a disadvantage.

I use Advanced.
 • Extra's power charging is just too time-consuming. i can never find a good oppurtunity to use it. and if i do, it'd probably be better to attack.
 • I find that Advanced has better and more useful Emergency Evades than Extra.
 • I like running, as well. that forward hop thing is too awkward. (walking forward in SFA really pissed me off.)
 • being able to do SDMs with a full health bar is important, too. Choosing between a perfect life guage and watching a SDM connect is a tough one.

of course, Extra has it's good points:
 • unlimited DMs in critical health.
 • the benefits of a maximum! combined with a DM opportunity from the one charge.
 • a much smaller charging time for your third character.

ehh, ehh.

Its hard to use Extra, if your good enough to get your opponent knocked out for a little time Extra is a good mode but Advanced is just way easier, loads up automatically in battle. But when you got the 3(?) second time you got a whole special move ready, which is handy. I personally use Advanced, almost never Extra.

Running does make the difference; so I'm with everyone else on the Advance mode. Didn't help that the computer never uses Extra mode either (Talk about a disadvantage).

ROLLING!!!!! Rollin rules, even limp bizkit thinks so.
I like advanced. In extra, i cant roll. I dont care much for running, I only use run for hyper jumps but I know how to do it the other now so it would be extra but I can't roll.

The old mode sucks ass. Thats why until advanced came out in 97 I though KOF sucked. You are open to being hit while charging and the opponent can drain your bar.

KOF 96 wasn't that bad. Charging the POW bar wasn't that slow and you had running, rollin', and Clark and goro Had dodges. What else you can ask? ^_^

In 97 and 98, i'm advanced all the way. I never get used to the slides in 99, so i guess i was one of the happy people that yelled when noticed that KOF2k have the rollin' move back

I used to be an Extra player until I realised that I got my ass owned real quick when versing someone so then I changed to Advance and from then it took a little longer for me to lose

Run Forrest, run!

Advanced for me. I've tried playing Extra but I feel so 'stiff' when I move. -_-;;

I thought the slide in KOF99 was like rolling in KOF98, except that you could have a slide attack this time. Very handy for Whip KOF99 back then.

I use Advanced. Oh, and not calling anyone crap or anything, but a lot of "Expert" KOF 97/98 players use Extra.

Using Extra Mode is just a waste of your quarters. Besides the inability to run, the first two characters in your team get meters that take SO LONG to charge up that it's not even worth it to do it. Plus, the attacks you can use after dodging an attack are pretty slow, and are not comboable like they were in KOF '95. Extra Mode only favors grapplers, but even then characters like Goro and Clark could do more damage with Advanced Mode.

Advanced Mode is the only mode worth playing in KOF '97 and '98. Andin CvS2, we'll be able to prove that this mode is the best one of all, even surpassing the standard Alpha Modes and Parry/Just Defended modes.

Hey I think you are forgetting that in Kof 97 the power guage meter was very small and very easy to charge and you could always CD counter your opponent and fill your power guage up to 80 to 100% of it untill he comes back at you try it and you will know what I am talking about It is'nt that bad eh
