Eolith decides to go with the cartoony artwork instead of the realistics. It would be interesting if Eolith sticked with the SNK art. I was impress how Rock Howard was drawn in his SNK art incarnation for C vs. S 2. I wish that GMOTW had the realistics of the SNK style and not so anime-ish. It would of been cool how the new character would of have been drawn in SNK style. In fact, I am trying to do my depiction of Mei-Li in SNK style. Maybe I'll try Angel too. Furthermore, since Andy and Athena have new uniform/hair styles, I wondered how they look in SNK art too.

What are your opinions?

PS: What in the blue hell is a bird doing on top Bao's head? I was expectin a uniform change, but instead Eolith has too add something to make Bao more hated than ever before. Now, I want to kill Bao. I was cool about it before. Now that he has a bird on his head, I want to take Jill Valentine's bazooka and blast the bird off his head.

SNK's main "realistic" artist left and went to Capcom. Tonko, the artist for the 2001 art you see now was next in line. IMO I think Angel And Mei-Li would have looked extremely silly in Shinkiro's(sp?) art. Mei-Li's character is blantenly a parody of anime. & Angel, with her strange sexy tights and huge boots/legcuffs would look real silly. I always felt that shinkiro's art never matched the in game art which was already a Manga-esqe style. To me Shinkiro best stuff was his pics for art books and the like. I welcome Tonko with open arms.

Yeah most of the main SNK art did went to Capcom and I really thought the art for KoF2001 was drawn strangely but I guess drawing the characters like it was some sort of anime show works out very well.

And yes Shinkoro's best art is usually on artbooks or manga.

*Checks out the art for MOTW and KoF2001*

Your right they do kind of resemble each other in the way the characters are drawned. Hmm well at least I think K's artwork has gotten better in kof 2001.

As much as I like the KOF 2001 artwork, I really would've liked it better if Shinkirou did the illustrations for this year (and no, Ran, I don't think that Mei-Li and Angel would've looked silly in Shinkirou's style; in fact, they [and everyone else] would've looked better).

Nonetheless, I still like Tonko's art work. It certainly gives KOF 2001 a unique look, and I like how some of the characters are rendered (some, not all). (I'm just glad that they didn't assign art chores to the King of Fighters 95 artist, or worse...).

Tonkos work is good. A good choice would have been the Rival Shcools 2 the guy is just great.
Those any one knows the name of that artist?

I don't understand why they couldn't do both versions. Just like what they did to Rock, it looks great in C vs. S 2. Why couldn't they do both Shinkiro and Tonko's techniques?

I liked everyone looking real! I dont like them as much as the others!

Ok a couple of them look good but what is going on with Kensou? He looks well evil! Bao's bird has got to go! Robert has turned into a work of art and Ryo looks like he is trying to be Elvis!

As for Joe it looks like a pose I have seen him do before but......what the hell is he doing! LOL...........

Blue-Mary looks good and I like the look of Terry.

But then again they are still good I am not saying he is a bad drawer because i think he is good I just thought they would have been realistic again!

OH well I'll get over it!!(Will you?) They will grow on me in time! I think.........

The artwork is pretty good to me.I got tired of seeing the realistic style art.Angel wouldn't right in the realistic style with the strange tights & the bootcuffs. Now if Capcom artists drew the KOF2001 characters, they would blow everyone away.

Shinkiro (the guy who did the "realistic" character art for SNK...?) has already done some work for Capcom, including both the CVS games and the box cover for Final Fight One (GBA). He was also horrible. At one point (around KoF '96/'97) his artwork made everyone (male and female) look like they all had the exact same face. You want to see him at his worst? Try picking Ryo in any SNK "groove" in CVS 2 and look at his win portrait. Now that's just bad.

AHA! So HE was the one who did the cover for Final Fight One. Frankly, I don't care if his CvS 2 Ryo was his "worst"; it's still better than all of Capcom's "attempted" renditions of the SNK stable.

And Mr. Big, I don't think that the SNK characters would look any better if they assigned a Capcom artist to illustrate them (although I would't mind seeing Bengus's rendition of the SNK characters).

To everyone else: I just got word from MadMan's Cafe that the artist who did the illustrations for KOF 2001 might be a different person. Perhaps it wasn't Tonko?

I don't like any version of Ryo made by Shinkiro but his drawings of Terry Bogard( he had alot of time to practice since FF2 or special i don't recall very well witch was his first) are amazing, for me the portrait of Terry in CvsS2 is by far the best one. I don't like is portraits of the capcom characteres.
