Does anyone here use Shingo on a regular basis?

He first caught my attention in my local arcade about 2 months ago, when I was playing some guy in KOF 99. My lineup was Terry, K', Andy, and Maxima as my striker. He had Kyo-2 (or was it one? It wasn't the 94 version. That's all I know), Terry, Shingo, and King as his striker.

First, we dueled Terry's. It was a close match, but I beat him by triple guysering him. Then, it was what was left of my Terry against his Kyo. Obviously, this Kyo wasn't his forte, or I was really on my game with Terry, cause I beat him with Terry as well. Then he brought out Shingo. I was thinking "this is just a toned down Kyo. He can't do any harm."

First he beat Terry. I thought "he was low in energy... I can take this."

Then he beat Andy. I'm decent with Andy in 99, so I'm wondering what's wrong.

Then comes K'... my best character in 99, with Terry being a close rival. I'm down to half energy, and I'm struggling. I get my patented K' combo (Cancelled One Inch, followed by C version Iron Trigger, then the flame kick up, a crow bite with the extra kick while he's in the corner) and catch him with the Heat Driver (or whatever it's called) SDM and win, but barely.

I stuck in KOF 97 the other day, and I put Shingo on my usual team instead of Yamazaki (Iori and Billy are the other 2 regulars on the team). I start playing as him, and at first, I still think he's just a powered down, non flame version of Kyo. His outfint's even the same thing. Slowly but surly, I figure out the diferences between the two. I start winning matches with him even.

I recently got KOF 99 for the AES (thanks SNK4EVER!), and I've been using him all the time. He's on my regular team every year now. He nudges out Andy on a regular basis in 99, and I'm getting better with him... not great, but not bad either.

Point of all that was the first sentance. Does anyone else here use Shingo as one of their mainstays, or even casually? If not, then why? I've quickly become one of his biggest fans...

Shingo is an easy pick for me if I'm playing versus fights. Especially in 97/98 when he has the counter move. He's one of the only characters who can consistently critical hit opponents. In 97 his infinite is incredible:
start with the ABC pow explode
QCFx2+P (shoulder charge SDM)
QCB,HCF+P (punching SDM)

BAM! the other guy is dead.

sorry, that's not really an infinite, but a 100% combo.

Actually Shingo is pretty strong character with a lot of priority and some very strong attacks.
But the reason why people don't choose him is because first his basic moves are a little slow and when you press a button for example C, then it will take ages to hit the opponent. making him a not very good against poker. and if a character is not good poker, then its not for arcade players.
qcf+A is probably the only poking move.

Secondly, I don't know why or is it just me but Shingo doesn't have that special feel, that makes a character good in playability and easy to handle.

But on the plus point, since he is a little slow therefore, he becomes a little unpredictable and you don't know which frame will hit you.
And other than his basic moves, he is pretty well and fast character.

So, He is pretty strong if he matches your fighting style.

Shingo is definetly one of my favorite characters. He's goofy, but a sure fire threat. Glad to hear your enjoying the KOF 99 wages.

I loved his critial hits on 97 and 98. Counters were great then, and made him one of the best characters to use. In 99 he loses the critical hits, but he did gain a lot more combos in 99. Does anyone know if he gained/lost any in 2000?

are you talking about some counter hit in particular, or just counter hits in general?

How can you not love a character that yells their name in a special move? "SHINGO KICKU!!!" You know I heard that moves even more powerful then the Shin Shoryuken. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> j/k Shingo rules!
