King of Fighters 99: Evolution

hey umm, am thinking of picking this game up, but i want to know what you guys think of it.
the same place that has this for sale has kof'99 for psx also

which one should i get?

You should take 99 Evolution! The game's is better to 99 PSX and for the first time, better to the original!
The backgrounds are great, the music is nice, only few moves aren't as cool as on Neo/PSX (the fire isn't red, it's kind of orange?!...)

KOf 99 for psx is good enough if you don't have a dreamcast but if you do get kof evolution because it has much better gameplay.

If your talking about getting the JAP version of KOF99 Evo,get it for sure(the US version is just bad,I still haven't seen a VMU save for the US KOF99 on the DC)

KOF 99 Evo on DC is really slow for me.... I have a Chipped European DC but the intro is the correct speed, as is the music! Is it supposed to be this slow?

i got the us ver. of evo and it owns, lol only thing i dont like is the music sounds weak tho, cant turn up the music vol ether

but other than that i like it..

Do you have a black boarder on the top and bottom of the screen?If you do then your probably playing your KOF99 on 50MHz.Most of the European DC are running on 50MHz(some Euro games allow you to choose 50/60MHz,but the NTSC games don't)

I had the same problem with my KOF99(jap)until I got the US version(that's the only one I play now since I'm not moving like a turtle)

No no no no,your TV must be able to support 60MHz for you to play 60MHz(most of the Jap/US)games

If your TV is older than saying 5 years old (made around 1995/6)it might be able to support it,that's what my TV is.My KOF99(jap)is running on 50 while the US one is running on 60

It seems weird though, I have loads of Jap imports and yet thats the only one thats slower...... all my other games run fine.

If you wanna see how good this game is against its arcade port.
then download this video. the video is pretty big (almost 17.4 MB) for slow connection but it will give a very good idea of whether to pick it or not. the video is highly recommended for any1 who hasn't seen kof99 evolution ever.

Evolution is...

Oh man... SNK did something right. Evolution is AWESOME! Almost nonexistent load times (maybe 2-3 seconds), polished interface, beautiful graphics, and strikers! You can get all those cool extra and fun strikers! Screw 2k, some of these strikers simply kick major butt! (Kyo SP anyone?)

Evolution is what KoF '99 could have been had it been developed on a gaming console that doesn't have as limited technology as the actual Neo Geo console.

My friggan Eb store just started carrying it. 50 dollars CDN, but well worth it. I came close top going MVS on this one. I'll save that cash for Strikers 1945 2.

i think u should go for japanese becuz there are couple of striker missing in us version.

Get the Japanese version of KOF 99Evo,you can go online and download the save from but you can't with the US version(and the US version is just plain crap)

If you do get the US version this what you do to get Syo and Gai:
1)Make sure that your time is at a minimum of 50 hours
2)At character select screen highlight Kyo(Real)
3)Press Y 30 times,up,right 3 times,up,left 3 times,up twice,right 3 times,up twice,left 3 times,up,right 3 times,up twice
4)You should now be on the "Extra Striker" section,press A
5)Syo and Gai should now be at the bottom

Do the same code again when the clock is at 100 hours
