As much as I think they're both excellent characters, I would have to give Athena the advantage. Blue Mary's shortcomings in this match is the fact that she can only provide a great fight up close. Athena has a more than average in-close fighting game that rivals Blue Mary's, but she can also play at a distance and has an equally effective keep away game.

If the match was up close, then it's anyone's game. However, if Blue Mary can't get inside once to do some damage she's going to lose.

My vote goes to Athena... no offense to Blue Mary users, of course, for she definitely IS the better looking one. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

VinylBoy Athena's long range is nullified by Mary's ability to use her dodge move which also builds levels. Slide is a safe poke move, which i think goes under fireballs. Anti air move, grab super, and very high priority dynamite swing, i be will to bet that it beats shining crystal bit.

Athena's bio states that she is Japanese. She proberly has a thing for Chinese martial arts; like Ranma.

Yes, Blue Mary can use her dodge to avoid attacks and build meter, but that still doesn't do any damage to your opponent.

I'm not saying that a victory for Blue Mary over Athena is impossible. Mary definitely has techniques that certainly even the odds like you mentioned before. However, in order for her to be effective is for her to be able to get in close and attack, which could be difficult against an expert Athena. She has more hang time in the air, jumps higher, and also have more moves that she can do in the air. If Blue Mary can keep Athena grounded, than she'll be able to use her footsweep/grappling combos and some of her supers to her advantage which will even things out.

Still, I think Athena has the advantage since she has better air priority and can cause damage from in-close or from a distance. A slight advantage, of course... but enough to make the Blue Mary user work a little bit.
