kof 98 and kof2000

I'd say Both, but it depends, do you like more skill involved when you beat the crap outta someone or do you prefer loads of heart-pumping action and a bit of luck involved? Well if you said the latter it's kof2k all the way but KoF'98 is a bit 'smarter' and it requires a bit more skill to master completely. And the lack of strikers also appeal to some although others (like myself) just love the striker-system.
If I were you I'd go with KoF'2000, then I'd buy '98 and then '99. But then again, I'm not

I would, and did, buy both. Most will tell you 98 is better, and while I do like 98 a bit more, I still think 2000 is really cool.
I say get both. Remember, however, that I'm one of the biggest KOF fans on this board.

Yeah, I think 98's better too, but I love the new characters in 2000, and also the interface is better. They are both good, IMHO. No... they are both great.

98 is ten times better, its harder too
if you can get both fair enough but i think 98 is the one to get, i was very disapointed with kof2000, i mean frames of animation missing and less backgrounds than there are levels in metal slug.

Yes, if it's not too late, get '98. It's a much better buy in terms of number of characters and replay value. Not to mention the way it plays (much more solid than 2000, each character is also much more deep).
I've heard mixed reports about 2001 (some people say it's great, others say it's terrible), but you can't go wrong with '98.

Well, those two games are in different leagues. 98 represents the pinacle of all Kof before it and after it. That is where it peaks (i have not tried 2k1, so this may change)
Then things changed, and kof changed. 99 and 2000 came along changing the dynamics of the game. Out of 99 and 2000, I'd say I got a better kick out of 99. 2000 DOES get boring after a while. It's a rushed effort, whereas 98 was truly something great.

I'm a big fan of the KoF series, but I have been quite disappointed with '99 & 2000. Most of the new characters are pretty naff, and they've changed the control system and moves for some of the characters.
For '99 & 2000 I don't really bother with my usual character choices because they've been totally fucked up.
You should definitely have got '98 first. Although '97 is the best imo.

KOF 98 is the definative KOF.Kof 2000 is flashy and cool.I say get both.
