Yes, this is what I heard Yesterday when playing KOF 2k1 at the amusement hall...

My team included the following characters: Choi Bounge + King + Benimaru + Shingo (striker)

Now tell me, how "odd" can that be?... Those characters are still KOF characters, right? They still kick ass, don't they?

I don't get it...

It's an interesting assortment, seems kinda random. I never choose Choi myself, I think he's a whore, but King and Shingo rock. Benimaru is okay, I guess... <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

I seem to be the only Choi player here... Anyway, I swear that character -along with Chin- can really beat the hell out of any character. It takes a little time to fully master it's 2 sec. back then f+A kind of moves -endearingly annoying, I must say... that's why I'll always respect Robert Garcia players for that since he is, in my opinion, totally unplayable...-

"Assortment", yes it may seem strange. But I did not use random. That is one of my regular "against CPU" team. When I go versus, I pick up Chin Gentsai + Ralf + K' + Chang Koehan (striker). It gives me very different characters to play with. I have often seen grab players -Clark- putting up with a grab team and not playing anything else. That can be boring sometimes. I like choosing different characters, it makes the game more challenging.

It's a pity though that they removed the humor'o-meter that was in the KOF 98 -you know, when you pressed START at the order selection screen, you could see how characters reacted to each other...- I'd just love to see how K' could react to Kyo or, worse, Ignis...

Actually, the humor-o-meter you are referring to was used to determine how great the chances were of your character getting team backup when you're dizzy. But it was funny to see how the characters "reacted" to each other- the strange thing with that was that sometimes teamates hated each other (or only two out of three liked each other, like Shermie and Chris against Yashiro on the New Face Team) and really unlikely people made good teams (like King, Shingo, and Mature in the Happy Birthday Presents! Team).

Oh, I didn't know that. Team backup? How did that show up on screen? I mean, do your team mates standing at the edge of the battle ground will cheer you up or, on the other hand, give you the finger? Never knew how those things work. Thank you for the explanation, though.

I agree with you on the strange reactions that occured between team mates. For example, Kensou is showing an angry smiley when playing with Athena -that IS really odd, isn't it?- whereas Chin Gentsai just shows a neutral white smiley. Nevertheless, it seemed to me Chin Gentsai and Kensou are good friends. The funny '98 animation always cracks me up -the one where they get into a drinking/eating contest before fighting each other-

I know this works on DC. If your character is dizzy and you press X,Y, and A at the same time, your teammates might come out and help you by acting like emergency strikers. If The character you're playing as had a frowny face, then you have a 0% chance of it working, if its neutral, you have 50% chance, and smiley is 100% chance.
I'm not quite sure what the button combination is if you're playing it arcade, but it should work.

Some people are just so high and mighty with there Idea of "Tiers" that when they see somebody pick a character thats out of the norm they wanna call it "odd" or even sometimes they'll outright say your team sucks. That stuff just drives me up the fuckin wall. If I had seen you play i would have said "hey, thats a cool team you got there". I get ragged for liking Heidern all the time cuz not everybody uses him. Oh well.

Maybe that guy thinks it's odd.

That's an awesome team, by the way.

hey man youre not alone. im a choi player myself. i just dont use him that much as i use to when strikers appear. but i sometimes tend to pick both chang and choi. chang as himself or smart chang for striker and choi and as my anchor at times when my human opponent is a crucial biatch.

as for my team i got lots:

kim
kasumi
K'
striker: vanessa or seth

kim
kasumi
jhun
striker: vanessa

here's my latest experimental team:

clark
whip
kyo
striker: ralf or alt. iori

Well, thank you all for your replies.

I must say I am a little "ostracized" at the amusement hall in my city. I get to play against defensive players with the usual Takuma-Vanessa-Terry combination. It is very boring to play against them. I mean, they're my buddies, I like vs-ing them but, hey, I am one of the few who's always attacking.

Using Choi and Chin sounds strange to them, simply because those are two characters are not often played, as SPINMASTER X said. That's a pity because every character is an interesting one, even the characters we flame -"Oh, I can't stand Hinako and Xian Fei, they're fucking boring!" or "Geez, Yuri is so noisy!"- Stuffs like that.

Anyway, I played a few games yesterday at the amusement hall, on KOF 2k1, and kicked some butt with the "odd" team.

Now, I get called the Odd. Wow, what a funny nickname!

Well, it's not boring teams. It's just characters that are very convenient for tournaments. Anyway, we'll crush them, right?

My team includes:

Maxima (always)
Lin
Seth
Ramon
Hinako
Andy

Strikers:
G. Manntle
Baedal
Duke
Kig Lion

People see this as weird; and I obtain good results; in fact; many people hate me.
And Choi players are completely natural... Cheap Bastard... I like him; there are 3 people deadly with Choi in this city... By the way; on a '98 with the date CORRECTLY setted up the "faces" change per day; unlike '97; in wich they TRULY showed the "feelings" of your team mates.
