Just wondering what everyone thinks of the very first KOF game? :)

I think it's good. Although it is somewhat dated. Still fun. Control seems to be rather good...some instances where it seems a little off. But mostly good. But anyhow, opinions please.

One of my all time personal favs. I remember being 16 and playing my KOF '94 to all ends. It's engine is no where as good as the KOF's from '97 on, but it's a good one still.

Excellent sound, extraordinary BG's, great music is a reason I play it to this day. It's not nearly as combo friendly as later KOF's, but with a little experimentation, you'll get some nifty ones from the game.

The art of fighting team can string their Zanretsu ken/Genei kyaku attacks easily on '94, because there is no delay in the execution of the move. Jump kick/Zanretsu/Genei always connects if the jump kick connects. Same goes for Heidern's Storm bringer, Soldier's Argentine back breaker.

Again, it's not really that combo friendly as later KOF's, but the combo's it's got are simplified. A very good game in it's own right, especially in it's prime.

IMO, it's better than '95 because it doesn't have a ridiculous handicap. '95 wasn't really that bad, but when 3 to 4 hits can put you down for the count, there's a problem. The only advantages '95 has over '94 is the team edit feature, the arrival of Iori, and the loss of the Sports Team, and the 3rd advantage really isn't an advantage at all if you liked the Sports Team like me (not many people did).

'95's got nothin' on '94 IMO, but a lot of the characters were underdeveloped in those days... like Chang, Choi, Chin, and Lucky for example, leading to unbalanced matchups.

maybe it's because heavy d was unstoppable in that one. but everytime i see it in action i get that sentimental feeling. the feeling of being 8 and trying to do moves, while being mesmirized by the big red arcade.

It's STILL my favourite KOF to date!

Always a blast to beat the game as the USA team again, and again, and again...

Good music too.

I fucking HATE the USA team, but well...

For a first of a series, KoF '94 was excellent, of course, i've been playing the sequels more than it, though, but it's still decent.

Hi everone

I really enjoy this game its perfect except for one think the blond female fighter from
art of fighting "Her Tornado Kick Is In Consistent" and I 'm sure most players would agree with me. If it wasn't for that reason it would be In my top neo-geo cart list.

Shining Soul
P.S. Someone please tell me if that problem is because of the original controls only but some how I doubt it!!.

I thought it was Awesome! I loved the intros to just about every board. I liked Janpan's especially The cops, spotlights and the rioting crowd reminded me of the city from Akira. Eventhough it's a bit outdated I thought the gameplay was solid and animation was up to par with 95. Definitely a fighting classic in my book :)

Akira man. I swear, the Akira vibe is in a lot of SNK/neo geo games.

-KOF94, the level you speak of.
-K9999, obviously
-KOF2000, the satelite destroying the city
-Last Resort, the backgrounds

someone really likes the whole akira universe.
i mean besides me.

someone at snk.

peace,

KOF '94, despite being the beginning of the whole shebang, is rarely mentioned despite STILL being one of the Neo's crowning moments. For me, it was winter 1994, spending lots of time with SamSho 2 and KOF '94, that truly cemented the Neo*Geo as an indispensable part of my gaming world. For me, '94's backgrounds and tuneage are still untouchable. Yes, the gameplay suffers from not being able to edit teams, but the fighting engine itself still feel really fuckin' awesome...you can do some bitchin' combos in that game. Highly recommended!

I love it, I've been playing since it came out in '94 and still play it to this time.

Hell ya! 94 kicks so much ass, I'm suprised how good the graphics still are, some neo oldies are looking quite dated....

It was interesting. The boss Rugal in this game is quite simply the hardest boss I ever faced in KOF...

Thats so damn true, KOF94 was like the underdog of the entire series, hell some people have never heard of KOF94', because KOF95 pretty much covered it's tracks. I LOVE 95' but KOF94 has some real solid gameplay and beautiful controls, despite the fact you cannot edit teams, it turned into a well rounded game ^_^

I love it. The backgrounds and the music is top notch. Overall the best in the series actually.

The gameplay is more old school with less combos and some pretty wierd commands. But i like it alot.

Another cool thing is the sound effects which reminds me of HK action movies... =)

I spent hundreds of dollars playing it when I was just a kid in junior high. Now I've got the home cart for this and KOF '97. The intros are the best. This game ALONE got me into the Neo Geo universe. I remember seeing Mai for the first time in this game's win screen. I was hooked from that moment on.

I wouldn't have continued with the series if KOF 94 hadn't left such a great impression on me.

I've been it and 95 quite a bit lately.

The character portrait art isn't so hot, the engine had a long way to go, but for the first of a series it definitely started out as a high note. Rugal is ridiculously difficult! I'm trying to play through this game with all of the teams right now, something I should have done long ago. :)

Did I mention how easy it is to do combos in 94?

Jump, Heavy kick, crouch, press light punch/kick rapidly.

Absolutely marvelous!

Play as Lucky, and the game is easy (up to Rugal) if you take advantage of his wide range heavy kicks.

94 was like the original Arcade crowd maker..I remembe way back when...I'd hop on tha machine, and just take foo'z down one after another after another.....Nothin stopped tha FF teamz..Cause if ya recall th FF teams/chars had a bias following back then
