When the game is no longer fun.

Right now, I have a feeling, it is a sick feeling. I have lost interest in playing video games. I will miss my rivals, but the game isn't fun anymore. The competition is there but the fun isn't. It is not because as of late I have been losing. My rivals, the infamous flatface, thomas, jeffs, leviathan, iie kyo, koolking, gennosuke, paul, the other thomas, bao, yes a guy name bao, the generic one kaho, joe bogashi, mori-zakiss,china-x, shaolin, thaank-s, hank, io, qadafi james, roger, kit, alex, yong, john, tim, and the other filipino guy, buddha man, buddha head, shane and dane, the mighty masher that comes with them,Master Reed, eugene, the malaysian duo, the wooriya guy, benimarus, brian, clay, masa's and my tag team champion partner, Raymond . If I left anyone out don't hate me I just have too much going through me to remember. You guys made the game fun for the last two and half years.
I have watched these guys grow up, some of them have come and gone. We used to have lines of people waiting to play kof, I mean thirty or forty different people waiting in line to play.
But the game has lost it's appeal. With a tournament unlikely to happen here, it seems to me that there is no further reason to continue to even play.
To see how disorganized the second ddr tournament went, it is unlikely that we would be able to secure the same arcade as the host to a kof tournament.
So guys, I will be around to do what I always do, listen to you guys and give neutral advice. But just hopefully i don't have to go to Brians to do so.

Thanks to all you guys who made KoF fun for me, over the last two and half years when, times were hard, and when times were good. All those laughs, and intense moments of competitive gameplay, will be something I will remember for years to come.
I still believe that where we play, I am the greatest. Not because I beat all of you, at one time or another, but because I truly got the respect of a skilled technical gameplayer, who always wanted to have fun.

Not exactly true!I think you are borred be-
cause KOFs are pretty coboless and the game-
play is unchanged.I recomended you to play
more complicated games like LB2,RBFF2,SFAPLHA
and X-MEN COTA!
Well thats my advice, but I still can`t ima-
gine myself as an old geezer and playing SF
ALPHA with the same skill as now! <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0">

I would like to thank you personally for such great advice. But here in Hawaii we don't even have Last Blade, Real Bout Fatal Fury, most people have never even heard of the game or the series. What they do know is MvC 2, CvS, DDR and other Konami games. I am the type of player who likes to compete, I prefer only to play the computer whe I have thought up a new combo. Also I prefer not to be stuck with a certain character if my combo does not work. I try to let other people play my game in that instance.
Our arcade that has KoF, has a broken MvC, A sometimes broken MvC 2, CvS. Time Crisis, some other shooting games, A broken Point Blank,Metal Slug x with no sound, Bust-A -Move 2, Dr. Mario with one side of the double machine broken. Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, that hardly anyone plays. Strikers 1945 2 and 3. A deer hunting game. NBA Hangtime.DDR USA, And DDR 4th MIX. Hip Hop Mania the second one I think,Guitar Freaks the original one. War the assault game, which hardly anyone plays that game too. When people do play, it's with people they know, so they usually take up the whole machine.
KoF is the only game which seems to have a line. Winning has become boring for me,and if I play around people do the same, so it's like playing on practice mode.
I watch this guy with a tail play Marvel vs. Capcom 2. he is so damn good, that he just wastes eveybody there, and it isn't even fun to watch. but the thing is he doesn't use monotonous patterns. He uses great skill. And takes advantage of every little mistake the opponent makes.
Though I wish that guy, was as good in KoF as he is in Marvels.

by the way, we used to have third strike, but they took it out, we used to have sf alpha 3, two of them and they took those out, kof 98 and 99 they got rid of them too. It is a pretty sad arcade.
Usually the competition is there but the game isn't. Or the game is there but there isn't enough players willing to play the game, I hate to challenge a circle of friends, when I am in a competitve mood.the game gets boring quick.Since we are all just playing around anyway, we might as well play on practice mode. I am more inclined to go easy on them. I don't have trouble playing my best at any time. I've learned how to play my best without having to get into the groove of playing my best.

Hey! All those other games can kiss my ass! KoF is our best friend. I know that sounds sort of odd, that we tend to obsess over a game, but we really like it. It brought us all together and it held us together as a group of friends, whether the bonds were strong or weak. Iie-Kyo, Leviathan, and Crack introduced me to the game. From there I learned from the almighty Shin-Hidoshi. I still look up to him as a player, but for a while now I've been turning to him for advice, as have alot of the forementioned. For THAT I really owe him. For being the proverbial bigger brother to alot of us. In all truth as well, we have all given and received advicew about life, love, tragedy and family, aside from KoF.

When it all boils down, we can all look back and say that KoF brought us together and will always be with us.

It is true that when you play a game forever, like we have, it can get a bit boring, but I will say that it exponentially surpassed the replay value of MvC2, SF3:3, and whatever else we can think of. I, for one, have been cutting back on KoF for some time now, patiently awaiting the next chapter in the lives of our heroes. KoF will not be forgotten, nor forsaken. I will patiently wait until it is improved and the crowds will gather again someday. When that day comes, the masters will return and struggling newcomers will return more experienced and provide worthy challenge for the long time veterans, such as myself and Iie-Kyo.

It is for that I wait....

Ah. Gennosuke, you have calmed down I see. I don't mind listening to you guys talk that is totally cool. I am just going to adjust my priorities to fulfill the dreams I need to live. If I want anything to become of my life, I have got to put the excuses that have kept me from those things aside and move forward. I move very quickly, but now I've gotta move even faster.
Unlike the guy who I refer to and make an example out of. He is so paltry man, I try and try to help him out, but I cannot take the opportunities I hand him and turn them into gold. Please guys don't become like him. It's so bad, he is an excuse man, it's so insolent that even the lowest rodent is not as odious as he is.
A quote from that guy" I SEE SOMETHING WRONG WITH HAVING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU ARE ENTITLED TO GET FOR FREE" HEY DUMB MOTHER FUCKER, NO ONE IN THIS LIFE IS ENTITLED TO ANYTHING, IF YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU HAVE GOTS TO EARN IT. IF IT WAS YOUR WAY PUNK, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE GIRL I LIKE AL LONG TIME AGO, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE JOB I WANTED TO GET A LONG TIME AGO, I WOULD HAVE SEEN MY FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES PROBLEMS BEING RESOLVED ALONG TIME AGO.
END OF POST.

So we're nothing more than a bunch of practice mode characters that fight back eh.

I guess I could see your point, seeing how your gameplay has evolved beyond the level of ours.

...

Our arcade is decent. In fact it's the best arcade that Hawaii has got. All the other ones suck due to the fact that they're not backed up by a company like Micro Worlds and they do almost no maitenance on their machines. Sure Micro Worlds is slow to get the games, but they do *get* the games at least. Importing DDR 4th Mix has got to be one of the biggest accomplishments Micro Worlds ever has had for our arcade.

Add to the fact that Brians simply doesn't have room for these machines and the relatively small player base for the more "well known" games, and you've got the perfect formula to add to the demise of the arcade. If something new comes in it usually means something old has to go out. Which is the reason why we (sorely) lack KoF '95, '97, '98, and '99, even if we had those games before.

I'm gonna take a long hiatus from the KoF scene too. I probably like a robot as much as the next good player but that's because it's the only way I know how to play. My gameplay is far from dynamic and I guess I've gotten bored of it myself.

I've always considered myself as the highest skilled player of the social group I hang out with and I've gotten bored of their gameplay too because it's pretty much the same thing over and over again. I understand your frustration in this field. I guess it sucks when you're the best player at our arcade and you really don't have an equal to chat with, huh?

Thanks, you know me as being very philosophical in the way I do things, although it may not be a philosophy you agree with.
I do not honestly think I am the best player in our place. It is just a joke. But as you say, you are the best player in your group. Yes, that much I will give you. But I am the best in my own group, the group of one. About having no equal, wow, that is alot to say.
I am not blaming the people for making the game boring. Cause it is not the people who are creative and come up with new concepts to play the game that make it boring. It is those who don't adapt to these changing needs of the game to keep it interesting.
I do blame the arcade for not maintaining their games, they should check out the games for problems more often, so that the people who want to play aren't left with playing a broken game, or just thinking I am not going to come here anymore, cause they just don't care for the needs of their customers.
I don't look down on people's ability to play, I just like to create more challenges for myself, I am truly competitve. If I say that I'll play a match one handed and with random, I'll go down and lose if it comes down to it.And say to whomevers I lost to, you beat me, fair and square on my terms.
I am so glad that you are going to do the right thing. You know what I mean. If your life outside of our arcade is fine, you will see that your dependency on our arcade as a place to alleviae your stress will be greatly reduced. You know I'm under a hell of alot of pressure with school, work, the girl I like, investing and things like that.

Sometimes I just need to get away from it all.

Buy or Pickup:
-The SS series
-The Last Blade Series (good shit, gonna get LB1 cart this summer)
-The Fatal Fury Series (Hint- RBFF2, Garou)

there are more fighters out there, I too, personally dont like the KOF games that much, Im selling KOF 98- see middle of selling forum. They are... kinda.. off for me. Maybe it because the loading times. I dont know, all I know it that LB2 is the best fighting game of all time. (havent played Garou in a very long time) It just kicks so much ass. I dont know why. Its only like 350 get that bitch, you wont be sorry.

I have played most of those games. And you right they are lots of fun. But I like the competition. I feel kinda funny inviting someone I don't know too well into my place to play a few games.I get bored very quick if I can't find a challenge. I am not saying that I am great or anything. I play every fighting game with the same philosophy. Watch how the opponent plays, listen to the talk that goes around, and do as much damage as possible without leaving any chance to get hit. I start small, maybe with a one hit combo, then add another hit, then see if there is anything else I can do without jeopardizing my character. But I do not analyze specifics. Like how much damage every exact move does, or how far every attack reaches. That is why I make mistakes too. And too study a game to that extreme, would take up too much of my time.
Our local arcades do not have those games. If anything you will see that our local arcades in Hawaii are saturated with DDR's, Hip Hop Mania's, and shooting games, and Capcom games.

HEY! IIE_KYO!!! I never play exactly the same! True my king tends to run out of tactics easily, that's only because it's 5th round and I'm trying to win! You guys are good, but I suppose you guys are right. It is lonely at the top of Olympus, neh? <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">

But still, Iie-Kyo, aren't my randoms any fun anymore? <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

Although KOF is quickly being trite... it is still fun when challenging your friends with 4 random and doing retarded striker combos.

I'd rather read books about philosophy now. I did the right thing by hanging my boots, in KoF. I can look any of you in the eyes and say, this time it's over, the game is no longer fun, I'm wasting my money and time playing.
I used to question myself before, Why the hell am I playing, when all this cowardly no technique Joe shit, Seth shit, Yamazaki shit, was going on. I used to hate that aspect of the game. Then when I beat those guys with pure skill, no infinites, no dirty striker combos{the kind of combos that are very easy to perform.}, I wondered why they have to start resorting to picking their teams, when I still picked random. Then when I pick a team, usually king and three random, or if someone is really pissing me off and I prefer to get rid of the guy so I can let someone who would make the game more fun play,I would pick king and iori, but I still rather have random though. I think I have the potential of wiping out anyone in the arcade I play in, usually with the first two guys.
Am I that good? We have this "expert" in our place, that never picks random. That means he always plays a certain group of characters right. therefore, he must be really good at those characters, since he is an expert, whose effort and skill must be vast, since he has concentrated his time and effort in those characters. Then the next question is how can he lose to me, when I have all randomly selected characters.
It's like the old saying, if you drop a basket that holds all your champagne glasses, they are most likely to be all broken, than if you kept some, sitting in the shelf at home.

Thats a duh though condiering even random will eventually lose its freshness with only so many combinations.

Why else do you think,KoolKing, has the game become boring. People do not expand their gameplay enough to create a new chapter to make the game more fun. I have tried to make the game more fun. By doing the all random thing{that I think either Io, or Eugene used to do}, the "shin james rules ", the one handed game play, even one guy playing the joystick and another playing the buttons. I am willing to try to play any style that any wants to come up with.If anyone here has a new game style that may seem fun name it and I'll try it.

Try moving the joystick around with your dick. It's challenging as hell.
