I finally got a chance to play KOF 2001 and only playing kof 2000 and 99 I must say that this game beats both 99 and 2000 no prob. There are so many things that make this game one of my favorite fighting games.

-The AI is undescribable. They aren't just robots stopping every so often to think. They play like real people taking advantage of any cheesy thing they could do. Example: Ignis kept on juggling me with his whip. Also Heidern's jump on your head and spin real fast move.

-All the characters seem very balanced maybe with a few exceptions. (Goro is a prime example)

-Very smooth game play this is very important and many games skip this concept but KOF always amazes me with smooth non choppy play but 2001 takes the cake

Now there were also some things that made me quite pissed

-Ignis. Even with only 1/3 life he'd kick the shit out of me. all he needed was one move to hit and he'd win. (juggle me in the air and do his SDM (the one like Krizalids)) He was fast and counter happy. Also Some attacks up close seemed to phase through him. after you beat him he says "is this the end of lovable ignis?" WTF?! since when are you some huggable teddy bear?

-the sprites seemed downgraded a bit from 2000. But KOF's sprite quality was never it's strong suit.

-The music also was lacking i know this is a common thing about kof 2001 that people hate but damn these tunes just stank.

-BG's and out of game character designs. Both were definately not SNK's best

Other than those gripes wich are minor i though kof 2001 ruled! It may a year old but it still kicks major ass!

I know, I really enjoyed the gameplay of 2001. It really wasn't as bad a game as everyone is jabbing baout...

except they're right about the music... <img src="graemlins/angry.gif" border="0" alt="[Angry]" />

My only main beef is the background and music. Other than that, I rather enjoy kof2001. But that music and BG problem... ugh.

remove the infenities and xiang-fei as a striker and you'll get a perfect game . I don't care about musics and BGs (you can change some characters like Bao , Hinako , xiangfei , etc. ...... but the game is still solid)

The music is very low quality and crappy. There are a few exceptions (Zero, Ignis, and a one or two teams have good music). But they're mostly one or two beat repititive tunes.

I still do think KOF2001 is way better than 2002 <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

But 2001 is probly my fave from the series. Its not as well balanced as 98, i know. But there's something about the "feeling" of it. Who knows?

I enjoy 2001 in SOME ways more than 98 because it's got some nice characters that have come along since 98. K9999, 2000 team, 99 team, etc. However, this is all in 2002 as well (plus the guys that made 98 so cool... real bout team, new face team), with better music, better backgrounds and... dare I say, better balance than 98?

I would like to think you'll love 2002 to death, Ray. :)

Yea, me too. I'll finally be playing KOF2k2 tomorrow when I go back home and load it up on my candy cab.

Well, I guess I already played it once in Japan... but I don't think playing a 2 minute versus round really quite acquainted me with the game.

I received my copy of the DC version a few days ago, and I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it so much, I plan on getting the MVS version. A little different, but a lot of fun nonetheless.

2001 is OK.Iori can be a monster in it though. The super cancels are interesting. My only gripe is the music, the BGs and also the energy bar.2000 has a much tighter feeling to it than 2001.

KOF 2001 is decent (I just got the DC port a couple days ago). The BGM is definitely not up to the standard set by past KOF's, but I still don't mind it. Stage designs are rather bland, however.

A good feature here is the Tactical Striker system where you can go 1-3, 2-2, or 3-1. Going 1-3 guarantees you a 50,000 Straight bonus as long as you just win the match... but if you get beat, that's the end of your game. I don't really use the Strikers too much- it's better to use that bar for supers, IMO.

Against Zero & Igniz, I'd recommend editing your team to 1-3. Using one fighter, you deal more damage per hit. If you go 3-1, your attacks don't even dent him.

It's nice to see the traditional AOF style Robert back. I don't care much for what SNK did to him in KOF'99 and KOF 2000.

Word on that. Ryo and Robert are usually on my team in 2k1.

What about Foxy? Truth be told, i rarely even have used her. Who likes playing as her?

Personally, i prefer k9999; he plays differently than any fighter i've ever encountered...he's not a grappler of course...but he's not quite a "shotokan" character either.

I guess he really is a poker... :)
Still my favorite because the SLASHING noise he makes as he jumps into you with C is so brutal and distracting to your opponent :)

What do you mean? I tend to pick up the ports to see if they're worthy of me plunking down hundreds of dollars. I'm not going to shell out 200 bucks for something that could very well suck, regardless of how much I support the company. Just common sense, ya know?

Me actually. I loved the KOF2001 Nests team.

I really hope Foxy could get riveved, or cloned, in 2003.

Or, maybe, Diana may be as well a Foxy-clone in terms of playbility.

Fine, allow me to make points.

Strikers. Stikers suck. They've ruined KOF, and it's only now in 2002 that they came back out.

Music. Music is HANDS DOWN better in 2k2. The music in 2k1 blows.

Characters. We got rid of some lame characters in 2k2, and brought back some big favorites like Vice, Matures, New Face Team, and Rugal. Yes, we brought back Goro last year, and he's back this year. All this plus 2k1's new characters, so 2k2 is better again.

Backgrounds. 2k1 can't touch 2k2's backgrounds.

Play control. The speed is there, the super cancels are there. BC max mode cancels is a breath of fresh air. 2k2.

Animation. Things just flow better in 2k2. Maybe it's the speed, maybe it's the tons of new animations for some characters. Maybe all of it? Badass.

Interface is nice, too. I like the art as well. Oh yeah, the art beats 2k1's to death.

There, I've made my points. Let's hear yours. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />
